James used to be afraid of growing old. He was afraid of losing his liveliness. He didn't want to die. His therapist told him this probably stemmed from his parents dying from phoenix fever when he was 19. He had lost the two people he knew would always be there. He was afraid of becoming them and leaving the people he loved.
So on birthdays and new years, he stayed home. He told Sirius and Remus to go home and enjoy the night together. He avoided telling people his birthday, he didn't want anyone to fuss over him and remind him of his growing age.
That all changed when he met you at 24. You were like a ray of sunshine. A light beam through his dark clouds of fear. He wanted to grow old with you. He wanted to wake up each morning and see your beautiful face, lit by the rising sun. He wanted to come home each night and lay on the couch with you. He wanted to tell you everything he thought and wanted to hear everything you had to say.
He wasn't afraid anymore. He was excited. He was excited for the days where you both just stayed at home. Doing puzzles, reading, painting, baking, listening to music, doing crossword puzzles. He was excited for the days when they could look at eachother and remember their early days and think about all the fun times they've had. He was excited for the days when he would joke that he aged like a fine wine. He was excited to fall more in love with you everyday. He was excited to grow old with you.
Remus and Sirius were glad. They had dealt with his sadness for too long and thanked Merlin that you had come along finally. You made all of their days brighter. When they would come over for board game night you laughed and smiled like you had known them all along. When they all went out, you danced and sang and james’ face would light up just watching you.
When it was finally James’ birthday again, there you were to drag him out of the house. The group threw a party at Lily and Marys house, everyone was there. There was a pinata, and punch, and everyone was smiling; there wasn't any loud music or excessive alcohol. Everyone was just happy to sit together and celebrate that James was living life as it was meant to be lived.
Afterwards you and James went home and ate dinner together and watched your favorite movies and danced and kissed and loved each other. At the end of the night James looked at you, tears glazing his eyes. You were humming and swaying to Paper Rings by Taylor Swift. He was realizing how much better you had made his life.
On you and James’ wedding day, he was giddy and couldn't stop moving. He wanted everything to go perfectly.
Sirius and Remus made sure it did.
When James’ saw you walking down the aisle for the first time, he couldn't breathe. You looked stunning. Gorgeous. Perfect. He couldn’t believe that he got to spend the rest of his life with you.
When you finally stood in front of him, he couldn't take his eyes off of you. He zoned out for most of the ceremony. When it came time to read his vows, he knew he had memorized the perfect words to say.
“Love, dear, babe, honey, sweetie, darling, mine, my heart and soul, my star; all of these are names I have called you in the past. Now, when I can finally call you my wife, I don’t think I'll ever feel the need for a different name.
You came into my life at a time when I was at my lowest. I didn't want to live. I didn't want to grow old, and I never had a reason to go out. I was afraid. I was afraid to find out all the joys of life, just for them to be taken away with time.
But when I met you, it all changed. You made me smile. You made me care. I wanted to live for you. I wanted to live with you. You brought the light to my cloud. You dried my tears and tickled my cheeks. You poked my dimples and kissed my bruises. You loved me and loved me until I was full to the brim.
I didn't believe it was possible to love you anymore, but now, standing in front of you, I can’t believe I ever loved you less.
And I promise to love you as long as I breathe, and even after. I promise to love you when we are two ghosts holding hands in the breeze. I promise to love you when you are angry, I promise to love you when you are sad. I promise to cherish your every thought and word. Your every movement and breath, I will worship.
I promise to love you with everything in me. I promise to defend you and support you. I promise to teach you and learn from you.
I want everything with you. I want to grow old with you. I want to live with you.
Mi estrella, yo encanto tus alma con todos de mi. Escucharte mis promesas, mi amor. Yo te amo. me encanto tu.”
