That One Nightmare Teacher
Hadrian’s POV -
Hadrian and the rest of the second-year Slytherins entered the DADA classroom a few minutes before the bell. Inside, there were desks with two chairs on one side with a chalkboard in the front of the room. Next to the board, was a desk with a blonde-haired teacher sitting there, grading. Lucius glanced up before going back to his work.
The Slytherins split of into pairs, Hadrian with Draco, Theo with Blaise, Vincent with Greg, Pansy with Daphene, and Millicent with Tracey. Just as the bell rang, a blurs of red came rushing in and quickly took their seats.
“Now that you all are here. Please hand in your homework. Then, take out your textbook and turn to page 54,” Lucius said. The next few minutes were filled with shuffling as people things in and out of their bags. The door slammed open, a huff coming from the door.
“Mr. Weasley, Ms. Granger, 20 points from Gyrffindor for being late, Please take you seats,” Lucius says coldly.
“But sir! We were coming from the duengons and your classroom is on the seventh floor! It’s impossible to get here on time!” Granger protested, loudly.
“Your housemates get here on time. Do they not also have classes in the duengons with you?”
“But they run in the halls and break the rules to get here faster.”
“But do they get here on time?”
“Well-”
“Ms. Granger, do they or do they not get here on time?”
“They do,” she replies, meekly.
“They why can you and Mr. Weasley not?”
“Snape always holds us late!” Weasley yells, fianlly losing his temper.
“I do not care what Professor Snape does, it is your responisblity to get here on time, am I understood?”
“You just want us to get in trouble because I’m a muggleborn!” Granger yells.
“Oh please. Granger, you play the victim so much I’m surprised you don’t carry around your own body chalk,” Draco says.
“Ms. Granger, even if Draco came through the door into my classroom well after the bell, he would lose 10 points, just like every other student that walks into my classroom late. Whether they are muggleborn, half-blood, or pureblood. Now, take your seat so you and Mr. Weasley can get caught up. Oh, and you have detention with Flich for arguing with me and wasting precious class time.”
The rest of the class went relatively well. Granger and Weasley acted like the idiots they are, but other than that, class was great.
At the end of the class, Lucius dismissed the group and everyone slowly emptied out of the room.
“So, Harry, do you want to go to the library to do homework together?” Granger asks. Hadrian looks at her for a second, before continuing with his friends in the opposite direction.
“Hey, Harry! Don’t just ignore her!” Weasley yells. When Hadrian and the other Slytherins keep walking, the duo of fools chase after them. Weasley grabs Hadrian’s arm. Hadrian quickly pulls it out.
“Will you stop grabbing my arm, or trying to hang out with me,” Hadrian snaps.
“Well if you stopped ignoring me, I wouldn’t have too!” Weasley says loudly, drawing the stares and whispers of a few passerbys.
“For the last time, I don’t want to be your friend, or even your acquaintance for that matter. Leave me alone.”
“Let’s go Hadrian, the idiot bergade will have to get to their next class soon. And for that matter, so do we,” Draco said. Hadrian nodded.
“Hey! Wait for us!” Granger yells.
“Yeah! We’ll walk with you!” Weasley yells down the corridor.
“Weasley, you have two brain cells, and they are fighting over third place,” Blaise shot back. “Leave us alone.”
And with that, the group of snakes hurried off to their next class, History of Magic.
The snakes enter the room and look up to see no a floating Professor Binns, but a woman with black hair and dark brown eyes. The bell rings seconds later, with no Gryffindors in sight.
“Alright, now to introduce myself. I am-”
The Gryffindors burst into the room, quickly taking their seats. The professor just stands there.
“Hello all, I am Andromeda Tonks, and I will be you History of Magic professor from this point forward. First thing first, I will be putting you in a seating chart. So everyone, please get up.” With that, the students got up and moved themselves to the edges of the room. The Gryffindors on one side, and the Slytherins on the other.
Slowly, one after the other, Professor Tonks put them into seats of her choosing. By the end, Hadrian ended up with Granger on his left and Weasley on the right. He was the only Slytherin on the left side of the room. The only one wearing green in a sea of red. Surrounded by Gryffindors on every side. It’s going to be a long class.
Throughout the period, Hadrian was corrected several times when answering questions by the girl sitting next to him, hit so many times Hadrian was tempted to use the new curses Marvolo taught him, and had his notes scribbled over with more of Granger’s handwriting than his own. Hadrian was also the only Slytherin who was called. The rest ignored like they didn’t even exist. And when Hadrian did answer a question, he never got points for it. Unlike the Gryffindors who got points for breathing. When the bell rang, Hadrian let out a sigh and quickly went over to the other Slytherins. They all stayed back and waited for the Gryffindors to leave. He ignored Granger and Weasley saying they’d wait outside for them.
When the room cleared, Hadrian approached the desk.
“Professor Tonks,” Hadrian said.
“Yes, what can I do for you?” She asked impatiently.
“I would like for you to change my seat.”
“Why?”
“Because I dislike my seatmates and would like to have it moved. It is also incredibly uncomfortable being the only Slytherin in a sea of Gryffindors while the other Slytherins are stuck in the back corner like you are hiding them from view.”
“That is incredibly rude of you to say to your fellow classmates and to me. 20 points from Slytherin and you have a detention with me Mr. Potter tomorrow.”
“It’s Peverell-Potter.”
“No, your last name is Potter.”
“No, it’s Peverell-Potter. I would appreciate if you could remember that.”
“It’s just a name. What does it matter?” Professor Tonks says dimissivly.
“But it’s my name. I matters to me.”
“Whatever, if that all, you can go,” Professor Tonks says, shooing them off.
Hadrian and the rest of the group leave. “House meeting tonight,” Hadrian says. The others nod and break off into pairs to spread the news. After all, it was never safe walk around as a Slytherin alone.
~Later that day~
All the Slytherins went directly to the common room after dinner. Severus lurked in the far corner of the room, out of sight to most, the black on his robes merging with the shadows. Lucius was there with him. Hadrian called them both their after telling the second year Slytherins.
“How many of you have History of Magic yet?” Hadrian asks.
The seventh years, fifth years, and second years raised their hands.
“How many of you were put in the corner like a dirty secret and ignored?”
The hands stayed up.
“You can put your hands down.” The hands dropped. “For those who don’t know. Our new professor is Andormeda Tonks. And she has a grudge against Slytherin. I don’t know why but she does not like us. I wouldn’t be surprised if she tries to mark against us on our homework as well. I called this meeting as a warning to you guys who didn’t have her yet, and to ask if there is anything we can do about it.” Hadrian looks directly at the two teachers in the corner.
“You could file a compliant against the board,” Lucius says.
“How would we do that?”
“You would have to record everything, mainly the homework that is marked against you if she does that. Keep everything. Every test, quiz, and paper she gives back to you. The fact that she isn’t awarding Slytherins any points will be tracked automatically. But you would need more proof than that to fire her. Particularly because she is in Dumbledore’s pocket.”
“Everyone got that?” Hadrian asks. Noises of affirmation were made throughout the common room. “In that case, everyone have a good night. Professor Snape, could I speak with you for a moment?” Severus nods.
After everyone disperses, Hadrian meets Severus in his corner.
“I have a detention with her tomorrow. I was wondering if I could transfer it over to you?”
“Sure. I’ll do it tomorrow morning.”
“Thank you.” Severus nods.
~The next day, after dinner~
Hadrian heads down the Severus’ office with Draco and Blaise in tow. The two drop Hadrian off at Severus’ office before leaving the to the common room. Hadrian tells the former head of Slytherin to tell Severus that he was there. Moments later, the portrait hole swings open and Hadrian walks in.
“Hadrian, I was thinking we could have tea. You could do your homework and I could grade paper,” Severus says. Hadrian nods and sits by the table before pulling out his homework.
The rest of the night was spent with Hadrian scribbling away and Severus slashing away at the pile of papers he had on his desk.
