Chapter 1

"uh Wanda?" The awkward boy in front of her peered down, twitching nervously awaiting an answer to a question she hadn't even heard. Her eyes skipped across the hall to Natasha once more, her hair effortlessly framing her face while she talked with her sister who was making a face clearly unhappy with whatever the redhead was saying. Wanda's eyes flicked back meeting Visions icy blue "hm? oh sorry Vis my mind was elsewhere" she pushed on a fake smile "what was it you asked?"

The boy let out an awkward laugh "well uh I was wondering if you'd be my girlfriend? Officially that is?"

No. How she wished she could just say no, that she could just run - run till no one knew her, run where she didn't have to think. "I'd be honoured."

No.

A smile plastered itself on her face as he wrapped his lanky arms around her pulling her into his ribs, a giant smile adorning his features. "Oh Wanda you have no idea how happy that makes me."

No she didn't. Cold. She felt cold.

She had moved schools for junior year and immediately the boy in front of her had taken a liking to her though she hadn't a clue why. She supposed he was technically her type, he had light eyes, taller than her, had nice hair, polished but something in her felt wrong. She was in classes with him, hell they even lived 10 minutes away from each other - a suburb over. Yes it was true she had settled in and immediately became close with him but it wasn't like that. He had even asked her to ice cream on exactly this date last year, to which she agreed unaware he had intended it to be a date. A couple awkward months later he asked again, she had declined that time.

Shortly enough another couple months later they started getting close again, he went to ask, she could sense it so she shut him down. Again. The strange turmoil that consumed her every time she was asked if they were together clouding her judgement making her feel ill, she loved the accusation and to talk about having him as a boyfriend but to actually have that?

A couple weeks after that she had reflected on what it would be like to date him, people thought they already were with how much time they spent together anyway, was it worth it?

They had gone to the coffee shop a Thursday after school, people smiled when they walked past. She did enjoy being around him, but was it in the right way?

A week later she told her friends she may like him, they squealed "finally." But what if she was wrong.

The two made it official and from then a pit opened up inside her and slowly devoured ever fiber of her being with each passing day in which she stayed with him, God she'd have to stop the world to stop that feeling. She broke it off with him a month later and elected to avoid him for the final semester.

Wanda noticed quickly the way her friends avoided her afterwards, making themselves busy. No one spoke about it but she was getting pushed out. Vision.

She couldn't lose them, she had worked so hard to get to where she was friends like them no she couldn't let it go. Over the break they had made up, hung out a bit and now here they were. Start of senior year with his arms wrapped around her in an awkward hug, she had to do it properly this time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Valentines had been the Friday prior, she told her parents she was going to his house for dinner. Her mom squealed with excitement - she didn't know about any of the stuff from last year, Wanda was determined to let it just be the past, it didn't matter.

She took her time getting ready that afternoon, her brother Pietro making a teasing comment about making smart choices as she left ready to walk to his house. The night was fun, he had bought Lego flowers and they had watched a sitcom in the background. He walked her home, all the way to the driveway "may I kiss you?"

He was sweet. It was a perfect moment....It didn't feel perfect.

"uh how do we-" the blonde boy stuttered awkwardly, snapping her back to the moment. She smiled politely "uh I'm not entirely sure." He frowned at her concentrating, before moving in "do I just like-" his hands went to both her cheeks as a child would pick up a pet to kiss them. "Woah-" Wanda's hands shot to his as she laughed awkwardly, stepping back slightly as an itching desire to run crept up her spine "no, I think it's more..."

She did it. She kissed him... sort of. It was weird like the mechanism was right she supposed but they didn't quite do it properly, jointly they broke away laughing a little. Frowning briefly she smiled "wait try again" surely it wasn't actually that hard. The two met again and it was the same thing she broke away leaning against his neck as he laughed a little and she mirrored the action.

The kiss was awkward, not in a traditional sense - just neither of them really knew what to do. He hadn't kissed anyone - Wanda had. Two years ago once, an old friend. She never spoke about it in fact she tried not to think of it, she hadn't seen her since sophomore year before she moved. Her mind fell back to then, the way their breathing had fell in sync almost automatically as their lips met the air tense with electricity and all that was unspoken between the two, this wasn't like that, he wasn't like her.

"Well I should go- my mom will be expecting me" she broke away giving him a hug feeling the rapid way in which his heart was going and teasing him about that before turning, her heart was normal.

He walked away and she turned walking to her house "ew."
---------------------------------------------------
Wanda's mind drifted to that day as she walked into class, she wasn't sure why she said ew, an odd thing to say truly, yet, that's what she had done.

She sat at her desk glancing up as her class filed in her eyes glancing down to her notebook little doodles littering the cover, she should've done art.

Mr Stark walked in around five minutes past the bell and her eyebrow raised - early for him. "uh experiments" he mumbled staring intently at his phone before looking up "We're doing uhhhh" his brows furrowed as he rubbed his forehead "You need to do an experiment uhhh its just a report I don't care what you do or how you do it but i need a mini thesis and the practical's need at least 50 trials. You have three weeks. Oh and partners, you're in partners here - they're on the screen."

Wanda's eyes scanned down the list of partners he had displayed appearing inherently randomized, she gasped. Her heart rate immediately increased as she read her name or more importantly the one next to her "Natasha Romanoff."

On cue she felt a body shuffle at the spare table next to her "this seat taken?" Her signature grin on her face as she sat down "long time no see, looks like we're partners" her teeth shining through her grin.

"Nat?" Wanda's voice shaky as she was transported back to that night in freshman year, how was she here- and more importantly how the fuck was she going to work with her.
