11 - Spells
TW: mentions of death, smoking
I make my way over to the Slytherin table and sit down next to Olivia and receive a few looks from the other Slytherins but I don’t care. I see Thomas still keeping his eyes on me but after a few minutes he looks away and immerses himself into a conversation with his friends.
“Aren’t you going to eat more?” Olivia asks “You barely touched anything but your toast”
“I’m not that hungry” I reply
“So you're not going to eat your grapes?”
I look at her “no, you can have them if you want” I push my plate towards her and she takes my grapes. I sit up and look around the room, my arms crossed. I see all the different people at the tables. The Ravenclaws- reading, writing, talking, staring off into space, the Hufflepuffs- all talking to each other, smiling- except two boys at the end of their table. The Gryfindors- also all talking to each other, laughing, shoving each other playfully. The Slytherins- talking in small groups, glaring at other tables, at the end of the table a group of boys were laughing, smirking at each other. One of them was smoking and a professor came and made it disappear. I could see Mattheo and Theodore in that group, sitting next to each other talking and loosely paying attention to what was going on around them.
I sit there, staring into space until Thomas decides to break it. He comes and sits next to me, making the person who was there before move “Do you want to go?”
I look up “Sure, why not” I reply and then tell Olivia I’m leaving. We get up and make our way out the The Great Hall “Can we stop by the Ravenclaw common room, I want to pick a couple things up while they are out”
“Sure, lead the way” He held his hand out in the direction of the common room. I rolled my eyes and started walking. Soon enough we were there and I answered the riddle and told Thomas to wait for me. I went up to the room I shared with the other first years and grabbed most of my things. I glanced at Indu’s bed and I wondered where she was- was she still in the hospital wing- how she was doing? I changed into new clothes then I went down and met Thomas at the door.
“Where to now?” he asked, glancing at the bag in my hand
“I don’t know, maybe the library? Where do you want to go?” I turned the question
“I can teach you some spells and other things if you want, in the courtyard” He offered
“I would like that” Any chance to learn new spells I took
We made our way to the courtyard and Thomas taught me defensive and offensive spells and I practiced them for an hour or two. It was not as boring as my classes had been and Thomas said I was learning them really quickly. After we were done we stopped at the library for some more books on spells, potions, and other things then made our way to lunch.
I sat at the Slytherin table again, Indu must have still been in the hospital wing. I saw the boy Hunter looking at me “Hey, it’s Circe right?”
“Please don’t talk to me” I replied and he surprisingly went silent
“Where did you go after you finished breakfast?” Olivia asked and I turned my attention to her
“I went to pick up some of my stuff in the Ravenclaw common room then I practiced spells with my brother” I explained
“Oh, fun” She replied, not sounding very enthusiastic before her face darkened “Did you hear that another student was killed?”
“No, who? What house and year?”
“I don’t know there name but they were a 5th year, Gryffindor”
“boy or girl?”
“Boy”
Who could be doing this? “How did you find out?” I asked
“Me and another first year found him”
“When?”
“After breakfast” She replied
“And the school is barely doing anything about it” I scoffed
“It’s weird, isn’t it, I mean they are doing some things but barely anything” I saw her eyes look away to something behind me “Your brother is behind you”
“Which brother?”
“Thomas” She replied
Great, at least it’s better than Mattheo but Thomas had been following me around ever since the news was out “Circe, do you want to go back to the common room?” He asked
“No” I replied still not turning to face him
“I will go with you if you want” Olivia offered “I have already eaten”
“Sure, I guess so…” I sighed and stood up and turned to face Thomas
“My friends will also be joining us” I looked behind him to his group of friends eyeing me and Thomas. Great, just great. I gave them a fake smile before my face dropped again and I turned away from them.
We left The Great Hall and made our ways through the hallways until we got to the common room. I followed Olivia to the couch and pulled out a book to read.
“Do you have a book that I could read?” She asked “I haven’t really had time to go to the library yet and I love reading”
I looked through my bag “Do you like books of defensive magic or ancient runes?” I asked
“I love ancient runes,” She commented. I gave her a book on ancient runes and we read for an hour before she left to do other things.
Dinner came and dinner went. I left with Thomas early and we were going to practice some spells before we went to bed.
On our way there I heard voices like the night before and I stopped walking. I heard voices again I told him. Do you want me to check it out? He asked. I nodded my head. I watched as he turned the corner and walked down the hallway and soon heard his voice talking to the other voices. Then I heard someone cry out in pain. I could sense it wasn’t Thomas but I still needed to see what was going on. I turned the corner and slowly walked towards the noises. I saw someone lying on the ground then Thomas pointing his wand at a masked person who was pinned to the wall. I pulled out my wand then the figure in the mask waved their hand and Thomas fell to the ground. I stepped back. Mattheo wherever you are you need to get your butt here. They waved their hand again and my wand went flying but stopped in mid air and came back to me.
“Impressive” The voice said. I heard footsteps behind me and Mattheo was at my side. He eyed the person in front of us then saw Thomas and the other person on the floor. They waved their hand again and Mattheo was on the floor.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked
“Doing what killing people or putting your brothers under the imperius curse?”
“That and why aren't you hurting me?”
“I’m killing people because I can, I’m putting your brothers under the imperius curse because I want to test you and same for why I’m not hurting you. Your the most powerful Riddle, I’m just putting it to the test”
Thomas and Mattheo got up “Have fun, I hope the next time I see you, you're alive” The voice said then they disappeared and Thomas and Mattheo were pointing their wands at me.
