Prologue
Freya Potter, daughter of Euphemia Potter and Fleamont Potter, younger sister to James Potter. The siblings were best friends when they grew up. They were practically attached to the hip. But as the years went on they naturally drifted apart a bit and got friends of their own. They were of course still close but they could be apart and be with other people as well without the other.
As James turned 11 he got his letter to attend Hogwarts. He was stocked and couldn't wait for what the next years would bring.
When he left for school he was joined by his parents and his sister. As she was a year younger she wouldn't join him this year. He was sad that he would have to leave her and not see each other until christmas and then not until summer. But he found happiness in the fact that she would join him the following year.
As they separated on the platform he promised to write to her every week about what adventures he had in the castle. She would hold him up to that promise.
And that he did. He wrote to his sister every week not leaving any details. He wrote about his new friends and what happened in the school.
The letters were one of Freya's highlights each week. She would read about what her brother had been up too and then answer as soon as possible.
As spring rolled around the corner it wasn't long until Freya's 11th birthday. The little girl was stocked. She would receive her letter and then it wouldn't be long until she was starting school.
As she saw the owl arriving she was jumping with happiness. When she took the letter from the owl the mood changed. She saw not only one letter from Hogwarts but also a letter from Durmstrang Institute. To say that she was shocked would be an understatement. She had always had her mind set on Hogwarts. She didn't know there could be an option. But now that she had one she didn't know what to do. Her parents left the decision to herself.
On one hand she had Hogwarts. The school she and her brother had been dreaming about for as long as she could remember. But on the other hand she had a whole new thing. At first she thought the decision would be easy. She had her brother at Hogwarts. But then when she thought about it she did have a friend that went to Durmstrang, Nina Baxter. And she was not just any friend. It was her best friend since she was four years old. They had met once in a park and had become best friends immediately. She was like a sister to Freya.
When Freya was nine years old Nina had come to her with news. Her family was moving back to Denmark, where she originally came from. Her dad had gotten a new position at his job that required them to move back.
They had kept in contact but they couldn't meet much. She remembered the last time they saw each other last summer that Nina had told her that she was starting at Durmstrang. Nina was a year older than her but that had never been a problem for them until now. At Durmstrang they couldn’t write to people that often and they couldn’t write to many people at once. They had to really think through who and when they sent what letters. Because of this they had less contact this year.
Freya missed her.
She sent over her possibilities and the consciences for each choice. After debating for a couple of days and talking to her parents she decided to go to Durmstrang.
She could write to her parents and her brother while at school, there wasn't really anybody else she felt the need to write to so she could make that work. Then she would be home for Christmas break and see her family. Then that way she could see Nina more again.
She would be sad that she can’t do any of the things she and James had been planning to do together but they would get more chances to do stuff and they would see each other during winter break and summer. She didn’t know what other chances she would have at meeting Nina much other than this.
