Joan was quizzical
Over the past several months, Regulus Black and James Potter had become the hospital's infamous couple. According to all counts, they were disgustingly in love with each other. Not that that gained them any approval from their coworkers. Before their relationship started, there had been a large group of people aiming to start a romance with the handsome Dr. Potter; and a surprising amount of those men and women were married. There had also been a rumor that Dr. Potter preferred the company of men because some unnamed person had claimed to have seen him leaving a certain establishment with a younger male. James had of course heard this rumor, but found that now it would be pointless to try and address it.
Studied pataphysical science in the home
However, most of their coworkers didn't need to base their disdain for the match on jealousy or homophobia. There was a large number of conversations indirectly chastising Dr. Potter on his terrible and offensive taste in men.
Regulus Black was not the perfect wife everyone had expected James to marry. He did not even have the makings of a good partner, and certainly not the makings of a partner to one of the wealthiest and well-respected men in Seattle.
He often wore clothes that many would not describe as men's clothing, and on occasion, he would actually wear Dr. Potter's clothes to work, broadcasting their queer activities. Although, the clothes were the least obvious signs of their relations. The icing on the cake was the noises that would come out of Dr. Potter's office on a daily basis. Whenever Dr. Black entered the office, the whole attached hallway would hear and scoff at their brazenness. No one would report them because they knew Dr. Potter was too important to lose, so their relationship remained the worst kept secret at St. Godrics Hospital.
Late nights all alone with a test tube
Everyone, besides James, who worked at the hospital absolutely hated Regulus Black and his relationship with Dr. Potter. But Regulus was completely pleased with their arrangement. He had never intended on being in a relationship. He had even been excited to take on the title of 'Old Hag.' Then he found the perfect man. He was charming, intelligent, good-looking, an incredible surgeon, and most importantly, he had this sort of darkness about him. Most people couldn't see that about him because he had put up a good front, but Regulus could. Probably because it matched his own.

Regulus's personal history was shrouded in mystery. Anyone who saw his transcript would wonder, what would cause parents to place their seven-year-old son in one of the most notoriously brutal boarding schools in the middle of the year. He had seemed like such a sweet child. Though if you looked deeper into his case, you might find the police reports around his neighborhood for missing pets.
Apparently, for the weeks leading to his transfer, several cats and dogs had been taken from their homes never to be seen again. Then there was the mysterious death of his parents when he was just sixteen. It was such a terrible thing to happen to the young boy, he cried and cried at the funeral and to the police. Luckily for him, crying was a skill he had learned to do on command. There was nothing more powerful in the world than a young child crying.
Calls her on the phone
He had of course never told James the details of his history. Regulus had spent years mastering the art of hiding it. He didn't tell him everything and neither did James. However, that was starting to be an issue. Regulus had found James to sometimes have some extremely strange habits. Every few weeks, he would become nervous, shakey even, like an addict looking for his next hit. Then suddenly he would disappear for an entire night. They spent all their nights together, except those. The ones where he was gone. When he came back, he would be refreshed, completely fine, and a new man. Along with that, James never allowed Regulus to walk around on his land, even with him.
There was a specific trail they could follow, but they could never explore other parts. Regulus didn't take to the concept of James allowing or not allowing him to do anything very well, but any time this topic came up, his voice took a tone that made him drop the subject.
"Can I take you out to the pictures, Joa-o-o-oan?"
And today, he had been shakey again. He knew he shouldn't but Regulus Black was not good at rules, so he had decided to follow James. Regulus had rented an inconspicuous vehicle and trailed behind him at a distance for about an hour, until James finally pulled into the parking lot of a trashy bar. He watched him enter the bar, then he waited outside. After about twenty minutes, James exited with a woman. They disappeared to the side of the bar where the green truck was parked, then drove off.
But as she's getting ready to go
Regulus saw red. The bastard was cheating on him.
That god damned fucking whore of man needed to fuck other people to get off. Regulus skirted drastically out of the lot. His driving that night was the perfect unobstructed definition of road rage. He drove at a distance behind him, mumbling incoherent threats that he would follow through with if the man cheating on him was any other person besides James Potter. Once he had arrived at the trailer, Regulus waited behind for a few minutes. He wanted to catch the bastard in the act.
After the few minutes had past, he got out of his car that was parked a small distance away from the trailer and stalked toward the mobile home. But when he got there, it was abandoned. There were no lights on, no noises, no cheating bastard. He crept around, trying to find any trace of the man but found nothing.
A knock comes on the door
Then, Regulus heard humming. It was coming towards him from the woods. If he hadn't been a rage-filled scorned man at this point, he would have been afraid. From what he could see through the darkness, James was walking in his direction, pushing something. He then placed it next to the trailer and turned back. Unaware of the enraged curious man following him. He followed him for fifteen minutes until he saw him open a grate, and climb down into the ground.
Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer came down upon her head
Regulus debated turning around. It was all very strange, but after remembering him being a cheating bastard, he climbed down after him. Regulus finished climbing the ladder and turned around. The first thing Regulus's eyes noticed were the shelves. The entire back wall of the room was covered in shelves with hundreds of jars. Each jar contained a human brain soaked in some preserving liquid. The next thing he noticed were the spines and skulls to the left of him.
About twenty of each. Then his eyes finally fell on the center of the room. There laid the woman, strapped to a table, screaming for help. And above her, stood Dr. Potter, looking at his lover with wide eyes.
"James..." Regulus breathed. "It's beautiful."
Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that she was dead
