Chapter 3
They arrived in the hall and the difference in numbers between the Slytherins and the other houses was shocking to say the least. There were only 15 Slytherin students of all years, whereas there were at least 30 students in each year in each house.
“How did that happen?” asked Harry, confused.
“Many magical beings died during the witch hunts. The ones who were the most affected were the purebloods as their parents had used magic in front of muggles before the magic secret was installed. In fact, the 28 sacred families were the only survivor out of 387 pureblood families at the end the hunts.” Replied Severus.
“Oh… okay, thank you” said Harry.
“You’re welcome”
The headmaster arrived, looking sad.
“Good morning students, today it is bad news that units us. In fact, you must have noticed that Frederic Evans is missing. Don’t worry, he is safe. However yesterday there was an accident, and his parents tragically died. The two of them will be missed. Young mister Evans has been allowed to take time to grieve.”
“Wait a minute, Evans? You mean like Lily Evans?” exclaimed Evan Rosier.
“Well yes, most of the muggleborns have a wizard ancestor.” Explained Severus.
Lily didn’t like the fact that she wasn’t the special one in her family. She made a strange face before immediately hiding it, so that no one at seen it. Severus, Professor Snape and Harry noticed, although Harry didn’t understand why she would react like that. However, as Severus and Professor Snape were freed from the compulsions as soon as the reaction had started, they remembered how bad Lily Evans was, so it didn’t surprise them.
The headmaster then allowed them to go, no one missed the angry looks on the Slytherins students’ face. As soon as they entered their common room Belladonna lost it.
“Of course, the ‘dear’ Frederic Evans will be missed. Do any of you even know him?”
Every student shook their head.
“But then why did the headmaster call a meeting?” asked Harry
“Harry! His parents just died, of course it’s important that they show support.” said Mrs. Weasley.
“Like you did when my mother died?” said Severus.
“It’s different! You still have your father” exclaimed Molly (young version).
The marauders were shocked, they didn’t know his mother had died, they (-Peter) felt guilty for not noticing, because even though they didn’t get along, the three of them always noticed the change in his behavior. But they hadn’t noticed anything unusual. Even the Slytherins looked surprised at that.
Mulciber who was the closest to Severus asked, “How come you never told me?”
“It was in the newspaper; I thought you already knew?”
“It was in the newspaper?”
“Yes: ‘Witch murdered by her muggle husband, or was it her son?’ The name of the article.”
Everyone went quiet, noting the title. Some of them thought that it must have been Severus who had killed her. But most thought it must have been the father, even James, Sirius (younger one) and Remus (younger one) thought it was the father, never once thinking it could have been Severus, expect Sirius who thought about his own mother who was in the Hall.
“We didn’t have a meeting when my parents died. Even though they saved almost every wixen residing in Hogwarts.”
“Wow! Her parents were heroes!” Exclaimed Fleamont Potter (James’ dad), not even bothered that they must have been Slytherins.
Severus almost smiled at that and continued watching, he was always eager to learn. Noticing Severus’ reaction, Lily sneered. Harry frowned, professor snape was the only teacher who listened to him and helped him with his scars from the Dursley, of course he was mean in class, but he explained to Harry that he did it because some students would go straight to their death eater parents if they ever noticed a glimpse of appreciation between Harry and Snape. Harry didn’t like the way his mom was acting towards young professor Snape, but he stayed quiet for now.
