Chapter 1

November 3rd, 1970
Grimmauld Place, Islington, London, England

Regulus stared up at the sign on the dark wooden dog, reading and repeating the word carved into the wood. 'Sirius', it read, so intricately it seemed a precious set of letters.

Regulus' childlike hand reached up and knocked. "Siri?" he called. The door opened after a moment, a wild black haired boy standing behind it. 'Hi Reg.' the boy, Regulus' elder brother, smiled as he spoke, opening the door entirely. Regulus held a small cupcake, decorated with one candle and messily iced, which he set down on Sirius' nightstand before wrapping his arms around his brother with childish excitement.

Sirius laughed. 'Oh Reg.' Regulus looked up at his big brother with a large smile, giggling. "Happy birthday brother!"

Sirius split the cupcake in half and shared it with his little brother, Regulus singing happy birthday as they ate and Sirius blowing out the candle firstly, nearly forgetting and them both giggling at it for a few minutes.

Days had passed; Regulus sat on the second floor staircase quietly reading, closing his book when he heard Sirius' running footsteps come down the stairs to him. 'Reg! My letter's here!' Sirius called cheerfully.

"Really?" Regulus confirmed excitedly, Sirius running to sit down and show Regulus it. Regulus' eyes lit up as he read it, impressed with the list of things Sirius needed. Suddenly Regulus' expression turned worried. 'What's wrong, Reg?' Sirius questioned, confused.

"What if you forget me?" Regulus replied, leaning on his elder brother. 'I'll never forget you, Reg. I'll write everyday, promise!' Sirius reassured with a ruffle of Regulus' curls. 'You're my little brother. You'll always be.'
