Now You're Paying For It
Summary
Sirius knew he shouldn't have told him. He knew that it would be a bad idea but he still did it. He just panicked and he knew that Snape was trying to get under his skin, he just wanted to scare him. He didn't want to risk Remus's secret, but he did and now he has to pay for it.

Sirius knew he shouldn't have told him. He knew that it would be a bad idea but he still did it. He just panicked and he knew that Snape was trying to get under his skin, he just wanted to scare him. He didn't want to risk Remus's secret, but he did and now he has to pay for it.

Somehow Snape found out about Remus and his relationship, Sirius didn't even know how he found out only his friends and Lily knew. They didn't want to tell anyone else in case one of the Slytherin found out, in case Sirius's family found out. In the end, one of the Slytherin did find out and it was none other than Severus Snape, the greasy little git. Snape just couldn't stay out of other people's business.

So the one time that Snape could talk to Sirius alone without the others around, he somehow slipped Sirius Veritaserum without him knowing.

He couldn't control his words no matter what he tried. So he told Snape how to get through the tunnel under the Whomping Willow that would take him to the Shrieking Shack that would be holding something dangerous, but it was holding Remus there that night through his transformation. Sirius knew that Snape would let his curiosity get the best of him and go and see what was there.

Sirius also knew that it was a bad idea, it would put Remus's secret at risk of being revealed. So once Snape was gone he sped down the hallways of the castle straight to the Gryffindor common room getting strange looks from people he ran by. He ran and without knowing what he was going to do when he got there, all he knew was he needed to find James and tell him what he had done and help him get to Snape before he found Remus.

"Password?" the Fat Lady asked as Sirius ran up to her in a hurry. Sirius's mind was racing so fast that he had almost forgotten the password and was ready to rip through the portrait.

"Dragon's Head!" Sirius yelled in a hurry storming through the entrance as soon as it was open enough to get through.

Sirius frantically looked around the common room searching for James panicking in the process, some of his classmates called out to him seeing if he was okay. He then notices James coming down the stairs almost running down them looking at him worriedly.

"Sirius, are you okay? Are you hurt?" went on James as he checked to see if Sirius got hurt anywhere.

"I'm fine, but I've done something horribly wrong James." James could hear the fear and panic in Sirius's voice. He knew something was wrong.

"what is it, mate?"

"He knows. Snape knows about Remus because I told him, Snape threatened me. I didn't know what to do." Sirius sobbed out. He didn't know why we didn't just tell James that Snape gave him Veritaserum, maybe because he didn't want his friends to know that he would fall for something like that.

No one in the room who was watching the two boys had ever seen Sirius sob like that. They've always seen him as the confident and strong type, but here he looked so small and scared.

"So what you just told him about Remus! To save your arse! " James Barked out at Sirius with anger. It made Sirius want to shrink in on himself and hide.

" I didn't know what to do James! " Sirius begged trying to get James to understand his reasoning as to why he did it.

"Whatever Sirius, move I have to get to Snape before he sees Remus!" James shoved Sirius out of the way

"Wait Prongs! Let me come with you!"

Before Sirius could run after James, he turned around so fast that Sirius almost ran into him and punched Sirius right into the side of his face. The force of it made Sirius collapse into the floor, making everyone gasp at them.

"YOU DON'T GET TO CALL ME PRONGS AFTER WHAT YOU DID!" James shouted making Sirius flinch at the volume of his voice.

"James... "

James raised his fist making it look like he was going to punch Sirius again. Sirius closed his eyes and curled in on himself bracing for the hit it made him feel like he was back at home again.

But it never came. Sirius hesitated to open his eyes to see Lilly Evans standing in front of him protecting him from James. He couldn't see her face but by looking at James's guilty one she was furious.

"Don't you dare hit him again!" Lilly gritted out at James.

James looked to be out of the trace he was in and looked down at Sirius and the bruise that started to form around his eye.

"I'm sorry-" James cuts himself off and just scoffs as anger washes over his face again and storms out of the room, no doubt running after Snape.

"Alright everyone show over and go back to what you were doing," Lilly told everyone who was watching.

She turned around and bent down to Sirius's level.

"Are you okay do you want me to take care of the bruise? " Lilly gently said while moving to touch the bruise darkening fast on Sirius's skin.

Sirius flinched away from her so hard he almost came back and hit the stairs behind him, this caused Lilly to frown slightly at him worrying about the reaction. She saw the way he flinched when James was about to hit him again.

"I'll be fine." He quietly said almost whispering his voice shaking a little bit too, almost unnoticeable. He stood up with his legs shaking leaning on the stair rails so he wouldn't fall.

"Sirius let me help you, you're shaking," Lilly worriedly said while rushing up to Sirius as he started making his way upstairs.

"I'm fine Evans I just want to go to my room, please leave me alone," Sirius mumbled gently pushing Lilly away.

Sirius slowly made his way upstairs to the dorm while Lilly watched him worryingly. She didn't know if she should have followed him or not, but she respected his wishes and left him alone.

Once Sirius made it to the room he didn't know what to do. He didn't know if he should scream or cry and strangely he felt like laughing, but instead, he stood in the middle of the room feeling numb. He felt like his world was crumbling down and he couldn't feel any emotions.

Eventually, he turned into Padfoot and crawled under his bed to hide from anyone who walked in. He always felt safe as Padfoot because when he's Padfoot he can hide and go into smaller places, feeling hidden and safe from the world.

He hid under there all night waiting for James or Peter to walk in, hell even Dumbledore or McGonagall. He knew he was going to be in major trouble with the school, he was just waiting until it came to get him. It so happens that it was Dumbledore who entered to room, Sirius watches from under the bed Dumbledore's robs gliding across the room towards his bed.

"Come out Sirius I want to talk to you. " Dumbledore said with a calm voice. It confused Sirius, why didn't he sound angry? He should've been angry with him for endangering a student.

Sirius hesitantly unshifted from Padfoot and slowly climbed out from under the bed, standing up to be in front of Dumbledore.

"How did you know I was under there?" Sirius asked avoiding eye contact.

"I know a lot of things," Dumbledore said with a slight smile and a stary look in his eyes.

"I suppose you came to tell me that I'm being Expelled."

"Why no, I've come to tell you that James and Snape are alright. James got Snape before he could get hurt, but he did see Remus. Don't worry though we made him swear to secrecy to not tell anyone about Remus's condition. " Dumbledore said gently

" So I'm not getting expelled? " Sirius questioned

"No, Snape did tell me about the Veritaserum he'll be serving detention for it, but you will serve detention for the rest of the year too, for endangering students."

"That's understandable, Thank you for not kicking me out. " Sirius said looking down at his feet.

"It's no problem at all. Now your friends are at the infirmary I'm guessing you want to speak to them, and while you're there see if you can get something for your eye." Dumbledore left with that leaving Sirius alone in the room again.

Stood in the room in disbelief, he wasn't going to be expelled. He wasn't being forced to leave Hogwarts, he gets to stay.

Sirius then rushed down the stairs and out of the common room towards the infirmary. He had to talk to Remus. He had to apologize. He ran so fast that his lungs burned and his legs hurt down to see Remus.

He walked through the doors scanning the room looking for Remus, he found him with Peter and James. Sirius walked over towards them but James blocked him from coming any closer or even before he got to lay his eyes on Remus.

"I want to talk to Remus." Sirius pleaded.

"You don't have the right to speak to him black." James spat in anger

"Please James I just want to apologize. Please. "

"No-"

"It's okay James I want to talk to him. " Remus whispered
