Getting comfy in limbo

Her eyes were new to the vivid and clear room, seeming to be in limbo. Everything was too peaceful and dreamlike to be true.

“You’re awake.” A breathy voice appeared behind her. When she turned, there was a steel table filled with pastries and teacups. Surrounding it were two matching steel chairs, one of them being occupied by a woman wearing a dark robe that had some sort of design.

“Come. Sit, Celestine.”

As she obeyed and sat on the vacant chair, she still wondered whether or not the woman was truly the one that whispered in her ear before then on the cart. She continued eyeing the woman, noticing her deathly pale yet beautiful form. Was she connected to this woman somehow? She did feel a spark just then.

“Who are you again?” She questioned, getting comfortable with her position, still staring at the woman opposite her beside the tower of pastries in between.

“I’m not surprised that you forgot me, despite what happened to you.” The woman kept a straight face despite the warm tone of her voice. “But let me re-introduce myself; I am Hecate, goddess of magic. And you, Celestine, are a legacy: my legacy.”

“So, you’re like, related to me?” She raised her eyebrow. “Can I take a pastry?”

Hecate nodded and handed her a cinnamon roll. “Precisely; now, I am here to discuss something with you, and unfortunately this cannot be delayed.”

“What kind?” Her mouth was stuffed with a few pastries, noticing the goddess hitch her breath.

“The kind that affects the past and future.”

“Even the present?”

“Especially the present.”

Celestine sighed and shifted into a more comfortable position in her chair, guessing the explanation was going to take some time.
