Chapter 1

"I can't believe I have to tote you around. You're 12, you can go shopping yourself. " The annoyance was clear as day within the oldest child of Black. His curly black hair bounced as he led the way through Diagon Alley. The youngest, Regulus, just tilted his head down, focusing on his feet. He barely made a noise.

"Lay off the kid Sirius, it's not his fault your parents are absolute loons." James Potter, the eldest boy's best friend, chimed in.

Sirius just huffed while the two other boys, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, snickered at Sirius' antics. They were quickly approaching a tall wand shop that had the words "Ollivanders Makers of Fine Wands Since 382 BC " plastered to its front.

The group of five entered the shop quickly with just the right amount of giddy young boys travel with. The shop was clean, up until the counter, which was seemingly overcrowded with white boxes that had small black labels on them. The shop had dark brown wood flooring and pale walls that were lined with windows displaying all of the coolest wands. Sitting at the counter was an older man with gray hair and shining silver eyes. To his left was a young girl about the age of the younger Black, her chin rested on the counter as she gazed at them with bored eyes.

"What's up, Ollivander? We've brought a newbie for ya." Sirius boasted as he walked in with no care to other patrons.

"Why hello Mr.Black how is your ashwood, phoenix feather core, rigid, 10' doing you?" Olivander questioned with a small smile, tilting his lips. The young girl next to him let out a puff of air in what seemed to be annoyance.

"Quite well, quite well. Thank you for that, good sir. " Sirius Black's smirk never wavering as he toddled back. "But that is not what I'm here for today!" Sirius wrapped his arm around his little brother's neck."My Itty bitty brother is starting Hogwarts this year and needs a suitable wand!"

"Ah, of course! Come here, young boy." Ollivander beckons the young boy to come closer and grabs his hand once he does. "Hmm, I see. Give me a split second. I think I know just the thing." Ollivander quickly disappeared into the piles of white boxes.

When he returned, he carried a white box to which he opened exposing a dark wand to the eyes of the boys. "This should do it. Chestnut with a dragon heartstring core and standing at a good 10'" The old man let the boys know.

Regulus picked up the wand. It felt large in his small hand. It felt like a lot to live up to. He grasped it firmly and flicked it like he had seen his mother do many times. The wand, in turn, shot out the largest pumpf of smoke the boy had ever seen! Regulus backed up with eyes wide, dropping the wand back onto the counter like it had burned him.

"Ah, it seems that was not as well as I wished for. Don't worry, it's completely natural to get it wrong the first time, I'll be back in a moment." Mr. Ollivander quickly disappeared, taking the faulty wand with him.

In his place appeared a young girl with ash brown hair and deep brown eyes. She appeared around 12, the same as Regulus.

"Here," she announced. She plopped down a white box unceremoniously onto the counter.

All of the boys collectively peered at the box.
"What is it?" Peter asked, slightly confused by the girl's presence.

"A wand," she returned without a second to spare.

"Well, yeah, we can see that. He meant what kind of wand it was. You certainly aren't much of a conversationalist, are you?" James chimed in, ready to defend one of his best friends.

"Oh…" The girl's eyes flashed with embarrassment, and she glanced down at her feet. "It's a Cyprus, dragon heartstring core, slightly springy, 13'" she quickly rattled off a bit embarrassed.

Regulus hesitantly picked up the wand. This one was even larger than the last. He felt tense under the girl's eyes but carefully flicked the wand.

The wand erupted with a soft light. Regulus' eyes lit up at the shimmering gold, and a smile graced his face for the first time that day. He glanced over at the girl who was now looking at him with soft eyes and a gentle smile. That was until a very loud CRASH bellowed through the store.

The two 12 year olds' eyes flickered to behind Regulus where a window display had been knocked down. Peter sat with a feather stuck on his head and blood rushing down his inner left forearm. He seemed to be in shock. All of the young kids froze, staring at Peter's bloodied arm.

Just then, Ollivander rounded back around into the front of the building. "Oh dear! C'mon, my boy, let's get you up." Ollivander exclaimed, rounding the counter assessing the boy's arm. It was just a small cut that seemed to bleed quite a lot. It didn't look like it would need stitches. "I would just use my wand to patch you up, but it seems I've misplaced it again. Ivana, can you take this boy upstairs and help him bandage it up?" Olivander questioned the young girl who just nodded, waving her hand as she turned her back to the boys.
