piggy bank hehe
After a hard time rearranging stuff in the storage, Tom silently returned to his place behind the counter. It was then when he acknowledged a customer giggling as they- no, he checked an item from the store.
Tom took note of his appearance: Sharp features, fine, expensive clothes combined with smooth gestures that emphasized his social status. A rich boy, he instantly knew.
He felt a little mischievous today, so he thought he could take advantage of the rich man and increase the price of his purchases. He wouldn’t even have to inform the owners of this, just leave the money of the actual prize in the cash register and go home with the rest of the earnings. A perfect plan. He might have pasta and wine for dinner to celebrate.
His eyes moved to the item the other boy held. A muggle piggy bank that one of the shopkeepers before him had acquired on accident, which both the owners of the store and some other previous shopkeepers had been trying to get rid of.
He had a feeling that this rich boy didn’t knew he was holding a muggle piggy bank, as purebloods were often barely educated about muggles. Tom could tell his plan was going to work. He had to restrain himself from cackling when the costumer almost jumped and noticed he was there. Then, the guy walked to the counter with the piggy bank in hand.
Oh yes, it’s all coming together.
Tom heard the guy hesitate a little before he decided to speak first. “Welcome to Borgin and Burkes. How may I help you?” He used the protocol greeting in a gentle tone as the customer placed the ceramic figure in the counter.
The customer cleared his throat before replying. “Excuse me, I was wondering...” He hesitated a little before continuing. “What’s this object for?” He finished, moving the piggybank side to side in the counter with a little smile.
“Oh,” Tom replied with a little chuckle. “It’s a very antique amulet,” He lied effortlessly, gazing at the object with great—and utterly fake— interest. “It is meant to bring luck and happiness to the person who possesses it.” Tom explained with a little smile, holding it up in the air to observe it, as if intrigued by the qualities of it.
Adrien, however, was too lost in the sight of the handsome man explaining eagerly to notice he was lying.
“I see...” He replied in a murmur, posing his gaze in the piggybank to not be caught staring too much. “But, the little slot it has... What is it for?” Adrien inquired, both curious and not ready to finish the conversation just yet. He could perceive an eerie vibe behind those pretty features that Tom had, but that only seemed to attract him to the man even more.
Tom nodded subtly as he eyed the object. “Oh, you’re indeed right, sir...” He leaned a bit on the counter taking a couple of seconds to come up with something. Adrien leaned his forearms in the counter as well, ogling at the man.
“Must be a discrepancy. My apologies.” Tom said as he feigned embarrassment for selling a product in bad conditions.
”It’s okay, i’ll buy it anyway.” Adrien murmured as he moved his gaze from the item to the shopkeeper. “How much for it?”
”Thirty galleons.” Tom said without hesitating, raising the actual price exaggeratedly.
Adrien subtly took a small velvet bag out of his coat, which was full of galleons. He opened it and deposited the quantity in Tom’s hand, subtly touching fingers. Tom immediately noticed it and suppressed the urge to narrow his eyes at the buyer.
On the other hand, Adrien was having an inner turmoil. He needed to talk to this man for longer, to catch his name, at least.
Before Tom could say something among the lines of «Is there something else you need?» Adrien went to talk first, running a hand through his hair as if trying to appear nonchalant.
“So... how long have you been working here, mr...?” Adrien inquired, trying to engage a small conversation with a small smile in his face, which he had to restrain from becoming bigger when he looked at Tom’s eyes.
“Riddle. Tom Riddle.” Tom gave his name to the man with a polite smile, although he could tell apart of a friendly person to a flirty person. Tom thought that this customer wasn’t being very subtle about the fact that he felt attracted to him, but he decided to humor him regardless. What a fun wizard to toy with.
