βI have to go, patrol." Vivien explained as she closed her books to leave the dorm.
βHave fun,β Scarlett mumbled, her eyes still on her homework and her brows furrowed.
Ella laughed, looking at her, before turning toward Vivien. βBlack, again?β
"Yeah."
βYou and Black seem to get along well now.β Ava commented.
βHonestly, heβs kind of unpredictable.β She replied. βThe other day,β she added, βhe apologized for acting rude.β
βMerlin, I didnβt know he had it in him.β Ava chuckled.
βRight,β she laughed. βAnyway, I should go, before I get late again. She picked up the library book from the other day and headed out for the patrol to meet Black.
Β
βHere.β She handed Regulus the library book as she approached him. βYou wanted it, right?β
He took the book, surprised. βYou finished it already?β
She nodded as they headed down the corridor, beginning the patrol.
βWhy did you need it, anyway? This isnβt a part of our History of Magic syllabus.β
She shrugged. βI just like reading. Plus, history is more interesting when it isnβt for class.β
βTrue, β He said, then gave her a surprised look. βI didnβt take you as someone who read history for pleasure. β
βWell, itβs not like you know a lot about me, Black,β she grinned at him. βLet alone what I do for pleasure. β
βI could always find out,β he smirked.
Vivien chuckled. Apparently, the brooding, mysterious Regulus Black had a sense of humor- rather unexpected.
Β
βYβknow, if we didnβt hate each other, I feel like we would have been good friends.β
βWhy do we hate each other, anyway?β He said.
βProbably because youβre a pureblood and Iβm a mudblood? And-β
He flinched at the word. βIβm sorry about calling you that before. I donβt even know why I hated you back then. Itβs not like you ever did anything to me. I was brainwashed into believing that since my childhood. And now - well, itβs not like I can go against my family.β He glanced at her.
βHated?β Vivien smirked. βWhy the past tense? So do you not hate me anymore? Seems like youβve already started to fall for me.β
Regulus rolled his eyes. βIs that the only part you heard, Evans? Honestly, it seems like youβre the one falling.β He grinned.
βIn your dreams, Black.β She laughed, her eyes falling to his mouth, following the movement as he grinned. βYou look good when you smile,β she commented. βYou should do it more often.β
βAre you saying I donβt look good otherwise?β He said, feigning offence.
βWhat? No- you do, just- β She glanced at him, just to find him smirking at her response. βOh, shut up.β
Β
As they reached the astronomy tower, reaching the end of their patrol for the night,
βDo you want to stay for a while?β He asked, seeming hesitant. Probably because it did not seem like such a good idea. Being out after hours, after their duty was finished, didnβt seem like a good ideaβespecially on the highest tower, with someone she didnβt even trust. Or did she? She wasnβt yet sure. But maybe- just maybe, Regulus Black wasnβt as bad as he seemed.
βSure,β she smiled, and they headed up, climbing the spiral stairs. The door creaked open, leading onto the moonlit floor of the tower. There was a chill in the air, since winter was arriving and a slight breeze blew through the air. Regulusβ eyes followed her as she came up to stand beside him at the railing.
βAbout what you said before- that you canβt go against your family, why not? I mean- β she hesitated. β- Sirius did it?β
Vivien glanced at him. He seemed even paler under the moonlight, looking up at the sky. His black locks framed his forehead and her eyes traced down his face to his neck, and - wait - what on earth was she doing. Hastily glancing away from him, she looked back towards the sky.
As expected, he tensed at the mention of his brother, his fists clenching turning his knuckles white. βItβs not that easy, Evans. I onβt exactly have anywhere to run off to . Besides, since Sirius left, I have to bear all the responsibility, and itβs not like I can just abandon my parents. Iβm the only hope they have, however wrong it may be.β
βWait so, youβre telling you donβt believe in the whole βblood prejudiceβ system, but youβll pretend to just to keep your parents happy? No matter what it takes?β
βWell-β he hesitated, βit sounds ridiculous when you put it like that. But yes, basically.β
βYeah, thatβs complicated,β she sighed. βNo offence, but your familyβs kind of messed up.β
βYouβre telling me,β he chuckled, but the smile didnβt quite reach his eyes.
