Planning a Wedding
Sirius went down for breakfast without Severus. He was actually chased out of their bedroom by a flying pillow.
Severus woke up pissed. Sirius wore him down during the night and started pestering him since early morning.
He was the one that got himself kicked out.
When he arrived at the table everyone was already there. His father was reading The Profet, and his mother was talking to Regulus.
- Good morning – he greeted everyone with a pleased smile.
- Good morning, dear, is Severus not joining us today? – His mother asked with a warm smile.
- Oh, no, he seemed to be tired – he answered with a sheepish grin that made Regulus blush.
- You should be more considerate, Sirius, after all we are going to get our robes fitted for the wedding in the afternoon – she said rolling her eyes.
- I apologize, mother – he said while sipping his coffee – Mimi – he called – Please, pay attention to Severus, when he wakes bring him his breakfast to bed, no need to get up.
Mimi was eager to take care of Master Severus. She had felt the magic swirling inside him. It was the biggest honor to take care of him. As always, she would do her best.
- Now, Sirius – his father called – We are going to sign the contract with the Rowle and Prince families, be prepared.
- Yes, father – he nodded – I’ve handled everything.
They were going through formalities. The Lords of each family had to agree to the match for it to be blessed. In the contract they had specified their duties. Severus was listed as a bride of good upbringing and reputation, backed by the traditional ceremony they had had in the Civil Affairs department to prove he was innocent before marriage.
They have settled down the details of their finances. The settled how much money would the Black Family give to Severus’s monthly, and the two families gave him some dowry. The Rowles have given Severus a beautiful Country Manor on a medium size property near a lake in the Midlands. On the other hand, the Princes gave Severus the dividends of two different businesses, one of parfums and the other one from a Bookshop. They were a considerable amount yearly.
Both families had also set aside jewelry that was going to be designed and given to Severus. Normally, brides get dowries for supporting themselves in case their new family couldn´t. Those assets would never belong to their husbands’ families, they will forever be in their names and normally they would be pass down to their children.
They have been happy that Severus would get a property, jewelry, and money. He could use them and spend them at will. The Black family stipulated a big sum of money just for Severus monthly use, this way he could save up all the money from the dividends and later buy more properties.
They strongly believe in increasing their own wealth.
The talks were done by Lord Tommen Rowle and Lord Augustus Prince who were happy that their biggest disappointments gave them some joy at the end of the road. Both children were gone, but the grandchild brings honor to their families.
Although they were eager to meet Severus for the first time, they were stopped by both Blacks. They arranged a dinner to know each other on July 18th, just a couple of days before the wedding.
While Lord Black and Sirius settled the contracts, Lady Walburga, Severus, and Regulus were in charge of planning the wedding.
Normally, they would start after noon to plan the details. Severus had the last say in every matter.
First, they decided the location for the wedding. Obviously, it was going to be in Black Manor, but they went through the property until finding the perfect spot between the woods and the plantations.
Severus debated for a long time how to arrange the space. At the end, he decided to arrange three stages for their wedding.
They first arranged the dais. It was going to be just in front the beginning line of the woods. Severus wanted a big floral arch and hanging from it champagne colored-fabric. The road to the dais was already set, lacquered wood already in place. By the sides, a row full of flowers will be placed. The roads of wood chairs will be split evenly to both sides.
They have settled down for thirty-six guests. Only the most immediate family and their closest friends. This obviously didn´t include James Potter as Sirius was still mad and Severus was not going to complain about his absence.
In front of the place for the ceremony, they had an expanse of greenery where they commanded the house elves to build a big dome made of branches full of green leaves and white and pink flowers. String lights of dim yellow were to be put everywhere in the dome. Severus wanted the whole festivities to be immersed in dim light so he asked the elves to robust the branches and garlands until no light could get in the dome.
There was a long table under the dome where everyone was going to eat dinner. The dome still had a lot of space, so Severus decided to make another environment separating the dome with more branches. In the other side, he put some high small tables for people to mingle and sip cocktails.
Finally, after going through another floral arche you would find the dancing floor. The dancing floor was placed out of the dome as Severus said he wanted to dance under the stars with Sirius once the dinner ended. They accelerated the process of growth of the trees outside the dome to get more branches where they could put small candles.
He stuck to the theme when he decided how he wanted the centerpieces for the dinner table. Low floral arrangements accompanied by long candles and vases with candles immersed in water.
Walburga had praised him for being elegant and having good taste, no need to be opulent. She added lots of small crystals to the centerpieces and the garlands, so everything would have a touch of brilliance in the dimly lit space.
They hired a band of classical music to perform during the whole night. Severus was adamant that they get a jazz band too to be livelier. Walburga agreed and paid for it readily.
After the decorations were decided, they invited Sirius to taste wedding cakes and decide. They chose a lemon pie for their summer wedding. The decided to have layered with lavender buttercream and blackberries, a nice raspberry filling exploding in their mouths.
Severus loved the idea of charcuterie boards, so they decided to set up a grazing table full of many types of cheese, meats, and fruits. Severus who was not a fan of vegetables preferred to add crackers and that’s it, to the amusement of Walburga.
They settle for a light and refreshing menu, mostly seafood, citrus and berries. It was best to stick to the seasonal flavors. It was going to be a summer wedding through and through.
Severus got a lot of input from Walburga for his wedding robes. He was so excited for Sirius to see it.
He doesn´t have to wait too long.
The twenty-first was just around the corner.
