Chapter 2
Har- Alastor walked out of the woods. He felt like he had been going round in circles for hours, so he was exceptionally glad to find a thin path, leading towards what he hoped was a town. Then he could confirm once and for all whether his theory was correct.
He was unsure whether he wanted it to be true or not.
Alastor Black. Something about the name enticed him, a possibility to be someone else entirely...
Harry Potter was unmistakeably the hero of the wizarding world, the boy who lived, the Gryffindor Golden Saviour.
Alastor Black, on the other hand, had potential. Immediately, the name Black had darker connotations, and Alastor sounded intriguing, mysterious. Zeus was never nice, after all.
Alastor had spent 7 years being an obedient little saviour, but everyone (including himself, to his shame) had forgotten about his first 11 years of life at the Dursleys when he had learned, amongst other things, how to survive, how to lie, how to deceive....In short, how to be a Slytherin. Now, at long last, maybe he could use those skills openly.
Smiling sharply, he continued down the path until, after many swamps, he arrived at a small town in the middle of what looked like a very boggy jungle. Well, that confirmed that he wasn't in England at least....
He strolled out, projecting an air of casual ease. Wandering through the town,he saw many people. After confirming that it was, indeed, 1908, he asked all of them if they knew of a place to stay, only one was offered. The Cormiérs, just outside the town. Apparently they were very willing to take guests, but only if said guests worked for it. Alastor, not being afraid of work, decided to head over there.
The Cormiér house, before you even entered, had a sense of... other to it. Alastor had always been magic sensitive, but the magic surrounding and cloaking the small house was different, a black, seductive, darkness that even Voldemort at his most vicious couldn't compare with.
He walked up the path and knocked on the door. It was answered by a tall black woman with curly dark hair. She looked him up and down.
"Can I help you, Mr.." her tone was full of suspicion.
"Black. Alastor Black." He smiled at her. "Some people told me you took guests?"
She frowned. "Why do you want to stay here? Matter of fact, why should we let you stay here, when we don't know you from Adam?"
Alastor paused to think of a reply, before he felt the compelling urge to.... sing?
"Listen dear, and listen close,
If you want a show, I'll be your host.
Hear me lady, you up for a jolly?
For I need some fun, and you're on the trolley!
The longest while, I've held my breath
This white town got me bored to death
Tired of blending in and pretending
I crave inspiration for something fresh!
Let's seal our deal, 'tis such a steal!
Let's cut the spiel, and grab the kill!
Please agree, to feel the thrill...
Now you may ask why I showed up,
And I'll just say that you're in luck.
I'll do anything, your choice Just tell me where to start."
To his great surprise, the woman didn't react to his sudden outburst of music, instead giving the impression that it was perfectly normal for one to converse in song. Alastor thought this was rather odd, no one had spontaneously sung at Hogwarts and, as far as he knew, no one had in the 20th century either. Maybe- No. That was stupid.
"You make a convincing argument, Mr. Black." She locked eyes with him for a second while he wondered with mild concern if she was a legilimens. Then, she smiled sharply. "You'll be very welcome here." The simple sentence somehow sounded like a threat. "My name is Lucille Cormiér, but please call me Lucie."
"Then you must call me Al." Alastor said without thinking. He had never really had a nickname before, Harry is already fairly short and 'freak' doesn't count. Al, however....
He grinned slightly maniacally as he walked inside. He was going to like this new life.
