Talk About Unsuspected

The Comet everyone was buzzing to see had come and gone, neither Tyler nor Matilde were present in the town square to see it.

Bonnie had decided to forego the event as well. The multiple warnings she received from her Grams, had made her sick to her stomach.
Even hours before the Comet was visible in the twinkling sky, Bonnie felt her veins flush with fire. Sweat beaded her forehead, people around her could feel the heat she extruded

Instead of heading home once the bell rang, Bonnie sped to the Donovan House. She may have broken a few road laws; speeding, ignoring stop signs, vehicular manslaughter of a post box

Matilde hadn't bat an eyelash as Bonnie burst through the door, catching her as she nearly fainted from heat stroke. In fact, Matilde cast at least three different Cooling charms upon her, and was this close to encasing Bonnie in ice. Before depositing her into the closest bed, Matilde's own bed, then split her time between dutifully tended to Tyler and Bonnie.

Tyler was tangled in his sheets moaning in discomfort.
It was the New Moon and therefore, the time when he had the least contact with the wolf within. He was a mere human, well he still had better reflexes and senses, healing too; just not himself.
It was something, every wolf felt, it just depended on how long you turned. The more times running under the full moon, the stronger the disconnect was on the New moon. Balance

Even Vicki drove home from University. Shouting a quick greeting, striding purposefully through the house towards the back garden to set something up

It was Chaos. Organised Chaos.

Matilde floated between rooms, upstairs and down. Victoria, cut, slashed, bled, forming rings of nature outside.

As darkness drew closer, and Tyler's eyes losing their golden hue; Bonnie, Matilde, and Victoria had stood together.
Stones around them glowed like fallen stars. Words left their lips, chanting that made the trees dance and the rain tap against the earth. Finally the Comet passed, and everything was silent, everywhere was cold, everyone was at peace.

Witches felt it in the earth

Wolves heard it in the wind

Vampires smelt it the salt of the rain

Humans knew something happened

Nature had changed
A Witch. A Wixen. A Syphon
The world had shifted

Turning up to that weeks Saturday's practice, Tyler was like the walking dead. Matilde had driven him, like normal, and Bonnie to cheerleading Practice, something unheard of.
After getting out of Tyler's SUV, Matilde elected to sit on the bleachers, smoking her special blend. No one was going to say anything against her, not when she mockingly waved at Agamemnon 'Troy' Conway, who had just come back to school the day prior, like a super villain

Tyler was confused, to say the least, when Stefan Salvatore rocked up onto the field in practice gear as if he had been the captain of the team for years
"Hey, Salvatore..?"
Stefan chuckled at Tyler's confusion. He would be too, if he wasn't in Tanner History lesson the day before. And right now it was just a matter of pride. "I joined yesterday"

Tyler nodded slowly, watching Tanner stomp onto the field like it was the gallows, "Maybe we have a chance this year"
"But aren't you the best on the team"
"And," Tyler said as if Stefan was an idiot. "I'm not a team"

Across the field, the Cheer team were all waiting for their captain to arrive. Caroline Forbes.
She's the daughter of the Sheriff. Queen of the social scene. On the honour roll, and was most definitely going to be the valedictorian next year. She could also get whoever she wanted, which was the reason why she was currently sitting in the passenger seat of a very sexy sky blue Chevy Camaro

"Next time heal me, kay" Caroline remarked, tightening the satin Kerchief around her neck.
Damon scoffed, "You begged me"
"I thought you would, you know, have some manners." Her beautiful face twisted into an ugly sneer, "you are old enough to know them."

"You're awfully confident for a human"
"And you're far to arrogant for a vampire"

His car came to a screeching halt, and Caroline would have been thrown through the windshield if it wasn't for the belt that would definitely be leaving a spectacular bruise.
"Listen here Blondie." Veins rippled under his eyes, "You think you have some leavrage over me, you don't. You never have. And you never will"

"I'll tell my mom." Caroline heard her heartbeat in her ears, "Tell her that—"
"Tell her what? Hmm. You can up to me, wanted me, after knowing full well who I was, what I was." Damon was a hairs breadth away from her face, "We agreed this morning, what you want, what I want. Do you want to make me forget about your little jealousy plan"
"No," Caroline whimpered
"Good." Damon began to drive, as if nothing ever happened, "don't want to be late now would we"

Elena Gilbert had been banished from cheer practice, about 10 minutes after Caroline showed up.
She wasn't happy, but she was trying. As soon as the rest of the team started the routines she didn't know, all Elena could think of was the last game the day of the accident.

She had changed. Not overnight, no one could, but over the 4 months since her parents deaths, since her own death.
She had practically ignored everyone and everything since that night. She was a mess, still is, but at least now she could wash and eat without her Aunt telling her too.

At one point, probably a few weeks after the funeral, days started to blur into each other. Elena could no longer tell you the date or time, or when she left her room to eat or went to the loo, or even saw sunlight. She did know, however, there was someone watching her and her wrist ached from writing in journals so often that she filled three of them.

Elena wanted to be better. Elena had to be better. And she's had been trying her damned hardest since school started. She went to The Grill after school, went to parties, even started her archery again. But this banishment, gave her the opportunity, the opportunity she would not squander

"Matilde," Elena greeted softly, as softly as one could when her every step squeaked against the metal bleachers
Matilde turned her head, blowing smoke from her mouth, even swapping her rolled cigarette to the opposite hand. "Gilbert"
"Do, um... Do you, er, mind"
Matilde leaned back, resting her elbows behind her, almost bored looking. "Go ahead"

"So," Elena rubbed her hands on her thighs. "How are the team doing"
"Alright," Matilde stated blandly, breathing in another lungful of smoke. "Tyler was saying, he wanted to try some new plays"
"Tanner won't like that"
"Tanner doesn't like anything"

"I'm Sorry." Elena blurted out so suddenly, Matilde whipped her neck so fast she was sure she heard it snap.
Elena chewed on her bottom lip, Matilde looked so confused, so lost, with her big earthly eyes and bushy eyebrows rising on her forehead. "I want... I want to apologise and try to make up for how I have been treating you." Matilde's scar tissue cut through her right eyebrow. Elena never noticed that before, then again she had never been this close to Matilde before. "I know, nothing I say could just swipe the slate clean, but..."
"Death changes people"

It was Elena's turn to look shocked. She was sure that was the softest tone of voice she had heard Matilde use to anyone that wasn't her sister or Tyler. Instead of mentioning it or even asking about the complete understanding she noted and not once ounce of pity, Elena turned back to the field motioning to Troy, "He's petrified of you"
"It was one punch"
"He was in a Coma"
"It was Medically induced," Matilde stressed

"Could you..." Elena looked down at her hands, regretting opening her mouth. "Teach me"
The corner of Matilde's lips kicked upwards, into a cocky smirk, "If you're sure"
"Definitely."

Matilde hadn't realised that she had been talking to Elena, not Gilbert Elena, for over an hour and had actually enjoyed herself. Elena was nice. Not something Matilde would have associated with her before, but Elena was trying.

Matilde remembered the party, it was big and boisterous and filled with the cheapest beer imaginable. Tyler still was a bag of energy, after the full moon one or two days prior. Then all of a sudden ambulances arrived.
There was a rumor that Elena had also died, for a few minutes.

"Like blonde?"
Elena shook her head, "I was thinking caramel maybe?"
"Something natural"
"Yeah." Elena had pulled her shoulder length hair out of the pony tail a while ago, "I just want to try something new. What about you"
"I've been peach for a long time." Matilde sighed, "maybe I'll go a bit pinker next time"
"Mrs Lockwood would have a fit"
Matilde's smirk was wicked, "More insensitive"

"Thor" Tyler bounded up towards her, going for a big hug
"Don't," she cringed, sweat had soaked Tyler's shirt, sticking it to his skin. "You stink." Matilde noticed Stefan, "you both do"
"A shot to heart" Tyler waiting for her expectantly to finish the lyric, only to deflate. "I'm disappointed, Matilde"
"Piss off"

"You like Bon Jovi?"
"I know Bon Jovi," Tyler corrected Stefan. "Like a few"
Matilde's jaw was set, lighting up another cigarette, "Kelly liked to listen to the '70s and '80s"

Elena snorted. "I remember you getting into it with Mr Hynes, about what were classics"
"He meant, Wagner or Tchaikovsky." Smoke drifted from Matilde's lips, "I said, Queen"
"His face," Elena laughed. "It was amazing"
"I'm guessing," Stefan's smile was bright, "the old music teacher
"He left a few weeks after." Elena looked puzzled, "New York, I think"

Tyler and Matilde shared a look, and Tyler took the initiative.
"Right," he clapped Stefan on the shoulder, "we'll head to the showers"
"You need it."
Tyler had the audacity to gape in offence
