Chapter 2
This past few weeks Draco and Potter's sister became close-knit. She would be at ease in his presence. She would laugh and smile at his jokes as Draco would go along with her, happy to see her pure ecstasy. He would let her show her interest through habits or anything. He would walk beside her as they made their way to classes. They steal glances every chance and send each other a paper crane. Draco thought that his dreams were coming true but not quite. He hadn't yet told her his feelings, something inside him lingers like he was afraid to reveal it.
"Hey, Y/n, do you still remember the scarf you gave me?" Draco asks. Y/n nodded as they walked around the halls, enjoying each other's company.
"Of course, I still remember. How can I forget that cute Blond boy sitting alone and freezing from the snow because he was overly prideful, yet the fresh air was already frostbite? You're lucky that I found you looking like a lost kitty trying to soothe from the winter. She teased as his cheeks went red from embarrassment.
"I-I was just feeling confident that I won't feel cold or whatever you called it." He couldn't make any comebacks because he heard her saying 'cute blond boy' that would put a smile on his face the whole day.
"Mm, whatever you say," She said in a sing-song way before laughing.
"Anyway, about the scarf. I'll return it to you tomorrow. Besides, I have my own scarf." He mumbled the last part. He doesn't know why he wanted to keep it. Maybe just to feel a sense that she is beside him, or maybe a precious piece that only he could carry for a long time.
"Oh, it's alright. I have an extra scarf. I remember I bought two scarves for Harry but Auntie Molly made one for my brother so I decided to keep them." She shrugged.
Draco sighs in relief and smiles at her." Don't worry, I'll take good care of it." He swore as Y/n return her smile." You better be, or I might turn you into a ferret if it ever gets torn." She threatens.
As long as he sees her being herself. That's all that matters to him at this moment.
They continued to talk while walking through the hallway, going to the Great Hall to have a meal. Little did they know that a Professor was looking at them with fondness in their eyes as he smiled at the two teenagers. If only they could see how both of them were made for each other.
"I mean can you believe it? Yule Ball is almost around the corner and I haven't had the chance to ask her out " Blaise who was trying to focus on the book he was reading while listening to the blond boy's unending rant. Hermione suddenly walked past their table and grinned directly at Draco before walking out of the library. Draco was pissed right now.
"Honestly, that Granger ruined everything. I think she knows that I like her and try to keep her from herself or worse separate us. I bet she told Potter about it-" Blaise rubbed his forehead and sighed already losing his patience with his friend. Of course, Draco was still busy being a chatterbox.
They were in the Library, getting books to research, but that was long forgotten when Blaise saw how angry and frustrated Draco was when they agreed to meet in the Library. Blaise guessed was because some Ravenclaw boy tried to confess to Potter's sister, yes he did feel a pang of jealousy. But that wasn't the case. So now, he was already his oh-so-long dialogue, to try and let it out.
"And if that happens-" Blaise shut the book closed, loud enough to stop Draco and his endless chatter. He looked at the blond boy with a sarcastic smile." How about I just confess to her using a Polyjuice Potion so that you wouldn't be a bloody coward? Will that help?" Draco's eyes almost bulge out of its sockets.
"What? No, I would not let you copy another me!" Draco whispered and yelled, his fist balling from how tight it was. Despite trying to calm Draco, it only got worse. Blaise loved to pull Draco's strings.
"You wouldn't shut up about the poor boy you almost jinx, you know Y/N will only reject him. He shrugged while he opened again his book. Draco scoffed at his best friend.
"It's not my fault that I felt like protecting her from every boy who wants her" I mumbled. Blaise squinted his eyes on him while slowly smirking.
"I believe I heard one of Harry's friends, Seamus- will try and ask her for the Ball later. Since Seamus and Y/N are friends, there's a chance she is going to accept-"
"Do not even dare to continue what I don't want to hear." He interrupted as Blaise snickered. "Fine fine, I'm going to confess her. I'll leave you and your stupid reading session alone." Draco left, Blaise shook his head and said,
"Go get your lady, Malfoy,"
Draco
I was walking through the corridors, deep in thought. After I left Blaise I wanted to ask her right away. But I can't find her everywhere. I search in the Great Hall, outside of the castle, and the black lake. My last option was the Gryffindor Dormitory. But will the fat lady allow me to enter?
I was almost at the painting when I suddenly heard some voices, the one I'd been looking for.
"Thank you, Mione, I'll be going now. I'll see you later." I heard Y/N said. I don't know which direction she will be going until I suddenly hear her footsteps getting louder to where I am standing right now. I didn't have time to run so we bumped. "Oof" I grunted, she composed herself before looking at me." Hello, Draco, what brings you here?." Her smile was beaming around the hall, almost making my knees weak.
"I-I was just looking uh" I trailed, merlin is it that difficult to talk to her? "I was looking for you, actually." I finally let out.
"Oh, what for?" She tilted her head like a cat being curious. My insides are screaming right now. Every small action she makes makes me want to scoop her in my arms and hide her from everyone. 'Get it together, Draco, just ask her already.' I thought.
I straightened myself and cleared my throat, I could feel my cheeks burning," Y/n Potter," I said loudly, making her jolt in shock at my sudden tone of voice. "Y-yes?" She stuttered.
It's now or never. " I was wondering if you wanted to go to the Yule Ball with me?" I said without stuttering and I mentally applauded myself for not embarrassing myself in front of her. I could tell from her expression that she was speechless, she only looked at me not uttering a single word. Merlin, maybe I was wrong, maybe she was already asked by some git that I don't know. Before I let myself drown in my negative thoughts, she cuts them off by kissing me on the cheek.
"Yes, Draco. I'll accept your offer. Don't be late." She said while her face blushed and left me there standing and processing what just happened a few minutes ago. I place my fingertips on where she kissed me. I started to walk still in a dazed state. She didn't reject me and she said yes. I finally asked her, and that made me snap to my stupor. Before I knew it I ran back to my room, jumped onto my bed, and grinned like a Cheshire cat as if he found his Alice. Looking at my ceiling and imagining her dancing with me.
A blast of music and students were enjoying their time at the ball. Most of them were dancing at the center and some were just waiting for the Four Champions to enter the room along with their dates. Outside of the Ballroom were students waiting for their dates, as well as Draco. Who was nervous and panicking a bit, he asked Blaise if his hair was alright or his suit was fine. He tried to calm himself down, but it was not working.
"Where is she, Blaise? Did she change her mind perhaps?" He was becoming restless. He wanted to remove his tie to let him take a breath but that will only ruin his neat tuxedo suit.
"Relax, mate. I'm sure she was just as nervous as you are. Let her take her time." Blaise patted his back.
Suddenly, the door from the grand stairs can be heard below them. They both turn around to see Y/N descending the stairs and her Emerald ball gown matches his tie her hair is curled, and the side of her hair is braided. Her makeup was light and stunning. Everyone below her was mesmerized by her graceful yet elegant figure.
Y/n searched for him from the crowds, she found him at the corner, his face still in awe at her appearance. A cheeky smile was displayed on her face. She was breathtaking to Draco's eyes. He wasn't moving from his place because he was enchanted by her gorgeousness, that is until Blaise pushed him forward. He made his way to the staircase and extended his hands towards her, and she gladly took it.
"You look so ethereal, Y/n." He whispered and kissed the back of her hands."And you look so charmingly handsome, Draco." She responds. Both of them went inside the Ballroom.
Unbeknownst to them, two boys from the Gryffindor were in disbelief at what they were seeing." I can't believe it, Harry. Your sister is going out with your enemy." Ron said to Harry. "I knew something was going on with them. Come on, Ron." Harry was about to go with them when he felt someone grab a hold of his collar.
"No, you won't. Let your sister be happy for once." Hermione scolded them. The red hair whips his head to her. "Are you serious? Y/n/n is not suitable for the Malfoy Prince. He's just gonna use her." Hermione then smacks his shoulders.
"You're an idiot, Ron. Can't you see how he looks at her? The way he treats her so special that none of us can't have? Of course, we knew Malfoy who he was. But only Y/N can bring out the best part in him. Her only." Hermione then looks at the two, both gazing at one another and smiling.
"He must be very lucky for her," Harry whispered to himself, but Hermione still could hear it."Of course, he is."
Draco
Everyone was gathered at the entrance, the Four Champions entering with their partners on their side. They were placed in the middle of the room, and orchestras began playing. The four were dancing gracefully except for Potter who was struggling. I wanted to laugh at how hard he tried to be in sync.
"I just wish, Harry practiced a bit more when he had free time. He sure is having fun." She sighed while I agreed with her.
Soon, the Headmaster came in and held Professor McGonagall in hand, followed by the other professors, and then the rest of us. We both swayed in each sound of the orchestra, grabbing her waist to lift her up as the rest did the same. We were giggling when we circled around.
After the orchestra, the next was the muggle band. Everyone was chaotic, jumping around and screaming at the people who were singing, I bet they're a fan of it. Y/n and I were dancing crazily, laughing at each other's moves.
"Come on, Malfoy. Is that the best you can do?" She taunted.
"It's more that you can do, Potter," I said and continued dancing. Out of nowhere, Blaise went in front of us.
"Hello, Y/n. Mind if I steal Draco for a moment?" He shouted since the noise was too loud to hear our voices.
"Oh sure, take your time." She said. "Thanks a lot. You're killing the night, by the way." She giggled at Blaise's comment. "That's sweet of you, Blaise." We both left from the crowd and went to the bar stool to discuss whatever it's gonna be.
"Two drinks please." He ordered and the bartender nodded. Blaise then turned to me and raised an eyebrow as if he was expecting something from me.
"What?" I ask.
"Have you told her?"
"Told what?" And then it dawned on me. Realization written on my face.
"Uh, I haven't" I admitted.
"Mate, you said you will eventually. How many more days should I wait for you to confess your undying love for her?" He frustratingly asks."Here is your drink." He thanks him and chugs all of it in one go.
"Can't you just give me more time? I will confess to her." I swore. He was about to open his mouth when his partner grabbed his forearms."Come on, Blaise. Let's go have some fun," Blaise sighed and turned to me," I'm expecting it to be tonight." He said as she practically pulled him leaving me on the stool. I grabbed the one Blaise ordered and took a sip.
"Mind if I join you?" I heard that all too familiar voice, turning to see the Chosen One. I grinned.
"If it isn't Potter. How did your night go?" He asks one of the bartenders to fetch him a drink. "My night went well, thank you for asking." He said sarcastically.
"Why so satirical? Is the Parvati sister giving you a hard time or something?" I ask, no mockery in my voice.
"It's not about Parvati and I'm not satirical. Just thinking things." I nodded and finished my drink.
"Well, I have to take my leave. Enjoy, Potter." I turned around and was about to leave.
"Take care of her," He said suddenly as I stared at him with a frown. He looked up, his green eyes staring back at me," And don't break her heart. If you ever did, don't think I would be easy on you." He said in all seriousness. Being the brother and only the last two Potters who survived, I understand how much he loves her as a sister and protects her. One wrong move I make then I will be sent to the abyss.
"I will never," I whispered, with no hesitation. He nodded, "Good. She's waiting for you outside. Better best be going."
I quickly sprinted out of the room. Outside of the castle, I saw her sitting alone the snow falling above the moonlight as I approached her.
"What are you doing here?" I ask softly not wanting to be loud and flinch her. "Just wanted a fresh air, after all the dancing. It's actually nice." She expressed as she stood up and gazed at me. The tension between us was evident. "Well, it is refreshing. If you ever feel like to come inside again, I'll wait for you." I still haven't told her. Is this the right time? We were quiet for a moment until she said,
"The moon is beautiful isn't it?" She gazes upon the sky.
"But not as beautiful as you," Her eyes widened at my words." What?" I guess this is the time I ought to confess.
"Y/n," I trailed as I approached her, "Since the first day I first saw you with Potter and two years I've been fawning over you nonstop. I was captivated by you, every action you made made my heart jump everywhere it went just to know all my nerves can feel how much you affected me. Every night, I dream of being with you for eternity. I waited for the right moment to interact with you, but every time I tried, I failed. I know being the Slytherin and the bully of your brother made you doubt, but I can change for you if the cost of being with you was to get rid of my bad self then I will. I don't care what others think of me, I don't care if I am a Slytherin or a Pureblood. I only care about you" I was in front of her, fondness in her eyes as she listened.
"You are everything that everyone wants, but I was the first one to see it alternately. Regardless of what happens tonight, I want you to know that I like- no, I love you since the beginning." Another moment of quietness surrounded us. A sense of doubt was rising through my body as I waited for my rejection from her.
"You know you're not the only one who hides the heart of love." Or so I thought. I look at her in hopes that what I'm thinking right now is the truth.
"I've waited for you to say what you truly feel about me and I'm glad that I waited for you. Did I answer your declaration, Draco?" Her viridescent eyes showed me her sincerity and adornment. I cannot wait anymore.
I grabbed her waist placing my hands on her either side of her face, "Yes," and kissed her with passion and longing. Our lips mold like the perfect art to display as it fits so well. I felt her smile through our kiss and broke away, I was still not satisfied so I chased her lips again.
"Calm down, Draco. It's not like my lips will vanish if you don't kiss me every day." I heard her chuckle.
"I just can't have enough," I said between kisses. We continued to kiss more. We stopped when we heard the music changing into a slower melody, perfect for us to dance.
"Shall we dance and go back inside?" I ask breathlessly. She shook her head and looked at me.
"It would be much better here outside where no one is around." She said and I nodded.
"Then, may you dance with me, My Lady?" I bring out my hand for her to take and slightly bow.
"You may, Draco." She responded and held my hand. I adjusted our posture, placing my hands on her waist. We both slowly sway left and right. The way how we gaze at each other and the way we form a smile every time we make a small mistake is worth making a memory.
"After this, I'm taking you out to Hogsmeade," I whispered. We hugged each other on the cold night where we remained dancing.
"I'll be waiting."
