An excitable week of pranking the Two-pounds-store croissants

The next day was weirder than they expected. They were very surprised to find themselves approached by Veronica Vane at breakfast.
“Good morning! I’m Veronica Vane, you must be Albus Great Potter.” She extended her hand to Al with a fake smile. Rose and Alice rolled their eyes. Everybody thought he was the leader, considering he was the Potter, including their parents. There wasn’t a leader in this friend group. Just three, now four, children hanging out all day. But, Weasleys and Longbottoms were expected to be sidekicks. And, even if there was a leader, it definitely wasn’t Albus, the closest to this label they had was Rose. But, anyway, Al shook Vane’s hand.
“That’ll be me, nice to meet you!” Al lied. It wasn’t nice to meet her, he had heard stories about her mother and, unlike Scorpius with his father, Veronica looked like she was the same. He was quite annoyed, even though he met her for the very first time two seconds ago. “How can I help you?”
“Well, I thought we can be friends!” She said with awful sweetness in her voice. “You know, cool girl, cool boy, we can be the most popular duo in our year!”
“Urm, sorry, but I don’t think we would be good friends.” Albus lied again. He didn’t feel sorry at all. He was glad their personalities weren’t a good match, she was very annoying, like Lavender Brown from Aunt Hermione’s stories.
“Who would be good friend for you, then?” Her voice lost the fake sweetness, she was mad he rejected her. “Know-it-alls with bad hair and death eaters?”
Ooh, she crossed the line. Rose rose from her seat and slapped her. Hard. Vane’s cheek was as red as said Granger-Weasley’s hair.
“Don’t talk about Scorpius like that again, or you’ll see that’s not all I’d to you!” Rose hissed. “And, also, who do you say has bad hair? Didn’t your mum teach you to bleach the roots, too? You have one very visible line between the blond and the black hair. And maybe use a toner next time, it looks like someone poured bleach on your head.”
Having already finished breakfast, the quartet stood up and went to their respective classes. Rose and Alice had Transfiguration with Hufflepuff and Al and Scorp had DADA. The classes went smoothly and before they knew it, it was time for lunch. They decided to sit with the Griffindors most of the time, because there were more familiar faces. Today, Scorpius’ cousin, Jack Nott, joined them.
“You see that girl, Veronica Vane,” Jack started. “Do you think she’d like to be friends with me?”
“I don’t think so, she called me a death eater this morning.” Scorpius yawned.
“She did?” His cousin snapped his head towards him startled.
“Yeah, and Rosie slapped her.” Scorp smirked.
“Don’t call me ‘Rosie’” Said ginger responded automatically.
“Sure,” his smirk grew bigger, “Rosie.” She glared at him.
“Careful, mate,” Al warned. “Most people who make her mad don’t live long enough to tell the tale.”
“Wait, you slapped her?” Jack was confused. “I thought you were the harmless Weasley.”
“There isn’t a harmless Weasley, all of us would gladly break all of the bones of someone who pisses us off,” she replied.
“Also, Ro is the complete opposite of ‘harmless’,” Alice laughed. “Her temper matches her hair!”
“Yeah, she once broke the jawbone of a fifth year boy who was bullying Teddy when we were eight!” Al added.
“Wait you beated up a fifth year when you were eight?” Scorpius exclaimed.
“Yeah, it was quite easy,” she said.
“Breaking a jawbone of someone twice your age is easy!?” Jack was shocked.
“I mean, yeah, you just have to punch at the right place,” she explained. “If you do, the bone breaks in, like, two or three punches.”
“Where do you know that from?” Scorpius made a mental note to be careful around her.
“My mum insisted I go to martial arts classes, so I can know how to defend myself and others.”
“What is martial arts?” Jack asked.
“Muggle sport,” Alice explained. “They teach you how to fight!”
“So muggles teach children how to break jawbones?” He didn’t know how to feel about it. Did all muggles know how to do that? He didn’t actually want to know the answer.
“Yeah, sometimes.”
“Aunt Torie will like you, Rose!” Jack mentioned.
“Aunt Torie?” Al asked.
“My mother,” Scorp said. “She has similar personality. She’s kind and accepting, but would murder you if you mess with her.”
“Well, then we’ll get along!” Rose smirked.

They only had two afternoon classes that day and they were double Potions and all four of them had it. Rose immediately became professor Slughorn’s favourite, Al following close behind. She didn’t know anything beforehead, but clicked very fast and it looked like she’d be the best in their year. It’s safe to say Scorpius sucked at Potions. He was a disaster. His cauldron caught fire. Alice wasn’t exactly bad, but really needed Rose’s help to succeed.
It was time for the teacher to look at the potions.
“Miss Vane,” he started, “the potion is supposed to be light blue, not bright red, looks like you messed up somewhere. You probably added two beetles, instead of one.”
“Miss Weasley!” He exclaimed when he saw Rose’s potion. “This potion is perfect! Ten points to Griffindor!”
“Know-it-all!” Vane pretended to cough, like she did every time Rose answered a question correctly.
“Good, miss Lonbottom, but you should’ve stirred the other way.” He came to Alice.
“Mr. Malfoy!” He was shocked. “How did your potion catch fire!”
“Mr. Potter, nice, you definitely understood this assignment!”
It was now after classes and they were doing their homework under the tree by the Black lake. It took long, because they were talking and laughing a lot, instead of studying. They finished two hours later and decided to walk past the lake. For some reason, Veronica Vane decided to be a bitch and pushed Rose into the water. Said girl got out, used a drying charm and told the rest to follow her into the library.
“So,” she started. “Any ideas on how to get revenge?”
“We can prank her,” Alice suggested.
“Great!” Rose’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “What about her hair? She thinks it’s ‘oh, so beautiful’!” Rose gasped dramatically for special effect.
“How about glitter in it?” Al suggested. “Glitter is very hard to take off.”
“And colours!” Scorpius added. “We can make her look like a colour bomb exploaded on her head!”
“Do you have experience with pranks?” Alice asked him.
“No, this is my first one.”
“You look like you were born to be a prankster,” Rose told him amazed.
“So you three have experience with it?” He asked.
“Yeah, Ro was the first out of the three to start speaking when we were babies,” Albus said, “and when James, Fred, Roxy and Dom found out her first word was ‘prank’, they took us a their prodigies!”
“We’ve been learning how to prank before we started walking!” Alice exclaimed.
“Weren’t James, Fred, Roxanne and Dominique one year older than you? So, like, four two-year-olds teach three one-year-olds how to prank?” Scorp asked confused.
“Bold of you to assume they weren’t already prank masters!” Rose smirked. “Now, time to find a spell that turns Vane’s hair into a colour bomb!”
They searched for nearly two hours until they found the perfect spell. It did exactly what they wanted and was one week permanent, so madam Pomfry wouldn’t be able to fix it.
“She is in the same house as me and Ro,” Alice said. “We’ll cast the spell!”
And they did. The next morning Veronica Vane showed up with her hair in million different colours and glitter! But, this didn’t stop her from being awful for the rest of the day. So, naturally, they kept pranking her for the rest of the week.
On Thursday, they replaced her black ink with pink one. She still kept being a meanie and set Alice’s hair on fire. Thankfully, Albus put it down before any damage was caused.
On Friday, they stuck huge glasses for the day. She could not remove them. She still talked shit about Scorpius’ family all day.
On Saturday, they charmed her whole group’s pumpkin juices to be salted. They ran out of ideas (A/N This means Simona, the author of this fic, ran out of ideas for pranks) and they thought it was enough revenge. They still shared insults very frequently though.
On Sunday, Scorpius finally got the courage to try for the newspaper team. He contacted Peter Fletcher, who was the in control of Slytherin’s part of the team and asked for an interview.
“Why do you want to join us?”
“I like to write about other people’s lives.”
“What are your preferred writing subjects?”
“I’d like to write about quiditch matches and interesting situations around the school.”
“Are you up with taking your own photos for articles and for other writers? You don’t get others to take pictures for you until fourth year.”
“I don’t have a problem with that.”
“Do you have any experience with writing articles?”
“I helped a writer from the ’Daily Prophet’ once.”
Fletcher was quiet for a moment. Then said “I’ll tell about you on the next meeting with the other houses, I’ll let you know what they think about you. I think they’d be pleased to know you are friends with Potter, Weasley and Longbottom. I feel you’d be good to have in the team, especially when you have a little experience with the ‘Prophet’, most knew members have none, but considering your family’s past, it’ll be nice to have this as a bonus point. I’ll root for you on the meeting tonight. Just so you know, they take more than one student from each year and each house, so there are work places, the competition is not that much. If you get elected, you will be sometimes assigned to help students fourth year and above, or write your own articles, so you’ll barely work with students your age. Well, except if you don’t team up with someone, of course! Good luck!”
“Goodbye!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning Fletcher approached him with a smile.
“There you go, Malfoy!” He handed him a piece of paper. “Welcome to the writing team! This paper shows the date, time and place the next meeting you have to attend will be. Bye for now!”
“Bye!” With that Scorpius went to breakfast.
He sat with his friends and his cousin on the Griffindor table as always.
“Guess who’s the newest part of the newspaper’s writing team!” He said as he sat.
“No way!” Al exclaimed.
“Congratulations!” was heard throughout his friends.
“By the way, I brought this week’s copy of the newspaper,” Rose said.
Most of the articles were about new teachers or the Silver Marauders (James, Fred, Roxanne and Dominique)’s pranks, but there was one article about them.
New rivalry?
I know most of our readers won’t be interested in the rivalry of eight 11 year olds, but this one is particularly interesting.
As the year started, a few first years formed two quartets which we’re sure will be important as the years pass by. The first one, known as the ‘Herb’ around the school, consists of Albus Potter, Alice Lonbottom, Rose Granger-Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy. Yes, the last member is shocking, but looks like the families, or at least the children, don’t hold grudges. All four seem very likable and many already love them. The other quartet is a very different story. Consisting of Joanne Rosallah, Calia Johnson, Sofia Andersen and their leader, Veronica Vane, many other students describe them as ‘mean’, ‘annoying’ and ‘bratty’. People called them the ‘Two-pounds-store croissants’.
On Tuesday morning, Vane has been recorded trying to make friends with the supposed leader of the Herb, Potter, who rejected her offer. As a comeback, she called Malfoy a ‘death eather’ and Weasley responded by slapping her.
Later the same day, Vane was caught pushing Weasley into the Black lake (photo in the beginning). The next few days, the Two-pounds-store croissants were pranked multiple times. There is no evidence, but the main suspects are the members of the Herb.
This is the information we have for now, expect updates.
“Do they actually find this interesting?” Alice questioned.
“Well, if they do, my job will be easy.” Scorp laughed. “I might write about Slughorn telling a joke in class and they’ll say it’s interesting gossip!”
“They are really making the fire bigger by portraying them as villains!” Rose reasoned. “And did they have to put that picture?”
“And seriously,” Al joined, “they say I’m the supposed leader? We all know we don’t have a leader, and even if we do, it’s Rose!”
Two days ago, Malfoy household
Draco finished reading the letter out loud. Astoria squealed.
“He made friends!”
“And not any friends,” Narcissa added. “Weasleys.”
“That’s good, right?” He wondered.
“Of course it’s good!” Astoria reassured. “They’re ending the families’ rivalry! And, friends are friends, right?”
“I suppose.” Draco was still shocked. He had expected the kids to be accepting, but not that accepting. Anyway, he was happy his son had made friends!
Two days ago, Granger-Weasley household
Ron stared at the letter. Then he groaned.
“I shouldn’t have told her to stay away from the boy!”
“Great, now you’re finally realizing it’s wro-” Hermione started.
“When has she listened to me!” He interrupted. “Never! I tell you, woman, she’ll marry this boy just to annoy me!”
Hugo laughed. He wouldn’t put it past his sister and she definitely looked… intrigued at the train station.
Anyway, they wrote a letter back to her, but Hugo wrote one from himself, too.
