What we could've been.
Summary
imagine this, neville was just a simple guy who works at a flower shop then a disaster came in that was gone since war. What do you think it'll be?
Note
My first time not getting someone to read this and first time writing loads without the internet and stuff so ignore the grammar and repeated words and shit and stuff and spelling because my friend was too busy to correct me 😞 now imma be posting this unedited.

Neville and Blaise always have been a couple, they started dating in their 5th year, exchanging feelings and finally knowing that it was mutual but it was obvious, well, only towards Neville since it's very easy to spot if Neville fancies someone but it comes to Blaise, it's a very hard, shelled secret. The type of person to die without even telling anyone what he feels or knows besides that Both of them came out to their friends and their reaction was the best thing if they tried to recall the moment, they couldn't help but laugh and the best part is where they both introduce themselves with the each other's friend groups, making one another apart of it too— the way they can hang out with their friends together, I'd call it a win-win, that's the deal.

Their spot that only they knew about, their sweet little secret, and the place where they see each other to spend time together— more like to escape everyone and their problems but that's what they call it then so be it but the place has this fresh air, the feeling of it as it also brushes their hair away, animals sound from afar, the whole view where they can see everything! It was breathtaking, grass swaying while their fingers lingered together, smile to smile, laugh to laugh and kiss to kiss, hugging like they hadn't seen each other for more than 5 decades— the place with the silence they needed and where they could pretend it's only them who exist in this universe— people always wonder why both of them keep disappearing together but when Harry accidentally caught them going somewhere it officially makes sense with all the sneaking and disappearing go.

Neville the one who loves sending love letters Blaise who keeps sending him flowers, and his favorite, Dahlia— some people are jealous of them, even though Blaise is one of the heartthrobs of Hogwarts in his time who got with the person who is known to be the clumsy, dumb Gryffindor dork! I mean who wouldn't be pissed on your crush liking someone who has that type of reputation, right?

Their relationship was perfect, yes, they have had bumps in the road but there's a way to avoid or fix them,

but there isn't always a way in the road you can avoid the bumps.

Sometimes it can be, maybe, not a rocky road but,

A cliff.

Neville rose from his bed, rubbing his eyes before he scanned around his room, still feeling tired from everything he had from yesterday— The day was just starting and he already felt like the day needed to end immediately and give him a break.

Neville finally forced himself to walk around his room and accidentally tripped over something that was on the floor, an object that looked like it fell from its shelf so he quickly picked the picture frame up, it was facing the floor so he couldn't see what's inside but when he finally flipped it, he felt his stomach dropped the second he saw,

He and Blaise.

Why? The first thing in the morning and Neville is already trying not to have the urge to scream his lungs out— he let out a deep sigh, putting it back on the shelf where it was before but this time he flipped it on purpose where he can not see what's inside of the picture frame.

He closed the door of his room as he exited it, going to his living room, the sunshine from his window met him and hit his skin with sunrays but he covered his eyes, trying to avoid it, and headed to the table to make himself a cup of coffee— the birds he can hear singing outside of his window, well, that was the only sound he could hear some all the loud silence he always had in this lonely household because it's only him and himself.

He sat down in his chair, commanding the mail to go to him as his coffee stirred itself, him reading the daily prophet but it's the usual stuff like about Harry, the Ministry, and whatever the bloody hell is going on with the wizarding world— he read through the pages but when the mail finally dropped on his table, he picked it up and looked through it, not opening everything but just looking to see who's the mail from.

"From Minnie, Draco? Uh, what else? Harry, Luna, Hermione, Seamus, Dean and- Pansy?" Seeing Pansy's letter interested him in finding out what's inside of it— he thought that receiving owls from his friends was good but from the Slytherins. Especially when it's from your ex's friends— he opened the letter, reading all of it from top to bottom.

"Dear, name

We sincerely hope you will attend the reunion to which we'd like to extend an invitation! The Three Broomsticks is where it's happening.
When: Saturday evening, 6 p.m.

P.S. Potter instructed me to copy and paste, so I did. Thank Salazar for giving me the willpower to deliver these! Furthermore, don't worry, love; I'll hex you right then and there if you don't show up. Love ya

xoxo, Pansy."

Neville let out a laugh as he put the letter down, shrugging it off, thinking that he didn't even have the time to see his old mates again since he always did see them sometimes when there were some things they needed from him or when he needed some things from them but Pansy with the hexing thing? Of course, it's real and he knows that she knows she meant that from the bottom of her heart— He takes a sip of his coffee and is still doing this normal routine every morning.

Taking a bath, had a hard time picking what he should wear then finally dressed up and ate breakfast he headed to work but he still made sure there wasn't anything important he left inside, he made a little turn before looking around for the last time and locks the door and go to his shop.

"Is this all?" he said to his regular customer, looking at him who looked like he was still trying to think what else he could get that special someone of his— Neville had already scanned the other items, tapping on the counter as he patiently waited for a reply back to his question.

"Yes, I believe it to be it. Again, I apologize for the wait, Nev." Dean said with a cheeky smile on his face, his hand reaching to his pocket to get his wallet to pay for the products— Neville nodded and gave him a little smile back.

"Not to worry, but are you certain? If you would want to get Seamus's fifth favorite flower, I still have some of it?" He suggested to the guy who was hesitating about the offer but after a hot second he gave in— He told the bloke to wait as he got some flowers again in the display and came back, putting them on the counter and scanning it before telling him the whole prize of what he picked.

Dean handed the payment to him as his other hand aimed at the bag and grabbed it, thanking Neville as he took some steps away but he stopped when he realized something.

"Nev, Are you planning to attend that reunion? Because, although it may seem silly, Seamus keeps reminding me that if you didn't go, he doesn't want to go!" Dean explained, his hand flying around as he spoke.

"Well... I was thinking-"

"You'll go?"

"Not exactly-"

"You'll go. Okay! See you there"

Neville raised his eyebrows at this whole conversation, he felt like Dean didn't let him finish what he was gonna and about to say but he rolled his eyes as he noticed his behavior was clearly from Seamus that Dean currently adopted— Neville was forced to go, nodding his head.

"Alright, I guess I will," he answered him, trying to hide the hint of forced tone in his voice but Dean didn't exactly hear him since he was already out of the door, making Neville turn to look for him and when he spotted him, he sighed, shoulders fell as they relaxed but now he got to go to that reunion which he was thinking about it but not thoughtfully going there— he tried to finish off his day like normal but his mind still on the reunion, preparing what he was gonna do and say.

★★★★★

Saturday came around, Neville didn't exactly sleep well but at least he did get some because he drank some sleeping potion to help him close his eyes properly— But he woke up as usual, doing everything like his days were on repeat or deja vu cause when he did the same thing at the same time just feels like he already did that and his conscious was right because he already did do it. His life is just so boring that he thinks he's living in repeat.

Neville started and ended his day the same as his other day but this day is where it's different since he had a social event and he needed to attend for like so long— still in his mind that he's a victim of Seamus mindtricks that made him say yes to this but he couldn't help and to feel nervous about everything; the noises, people, the place, old mates, awkward situations, people, people and people.

When he got himself together, he finally goes and went to the place to reunite with some friends, wishing he'll not fuck this up and this would go well cause they really did have their own business and lives now after the war happened since they were done with school and everything, some of them, I mean, 95% of them were already married and 50% has kids so.. tell me if you still don't feel useless after knowing that.

It was 5:54 pm. Currently running late so he fastened his walk-up since he was already close and 6-5 steps away from the venue— Neville quickly fixed his hair and put his other hand inside of his pockets as he opened the door to enter and when he did, he finally saw the mates he went to school with— the atmosphere was joyful, every corner; people was talking, having drinks and is enjoying this reunion. The sight of it made him put a small smile and the second he spotted his old friend group, he quickly went to them, greeting them by waving his hand.

"Hey-"

"Why are you late?" Ginny raised her eyebrow, crossing her arm in the process. She looks like she's mad at him which makes Neville kind of scared about it, well, just like the old days, sending chills down his spine— Neville shrugged and laughed it off, awkwardly, of course.

"Nev's probably was busy with his flower shop!" Luna, her wife said, her tone was always sweet and innocent where even if they weren't in a calm situation, her voice was still the only know who wasn't at the screaming, shaky voice in state— Neville nodded, gesturing he agreed and that was the reason.

"Yeah, speaking of it, how's your shop?" Seamus joined in before taking a sip from his drink, an arm appeared to wrap around Seamus then he looked to see whose arm is it, he got his answer and it was; Dean Thomas, aka Seamus's loving husband.

"As before, everything is going well. Dean is also one of my regulars; how are the flowers he sent you? Are you handling it?" Neville slightly tilted his head as it expressed curiosity and wanting to find out more— Dean on the other hand smiled, looking around before the drinks he ordered arrived and he quickly took one, handing it to Neville as Neville also grabbed it and took a drink.

"Do you honestly believe I'm incapable of caring for bloody flowers? I'm looking after it well!"

"Just checking, no need to be defensive."

Seamus rolled his eyes as Dean laughed at his and Neville's interaction, teasing him too— Neville saw this scene and he was so happy for them, Dean and Seamus finally engaged after facing each other for YEARS with a lot of misunderstanding, drama, and more but they deserve their happy ending.

Neville all thought of it, a sweet smile appeared on his face but he couldn't help but get slightly jealous that all of his friends are married to their partners and more, knowing that Neville will never have that but he shoved that feeling deep down and tried to enjoy the night.

★★★★★

The night goes on, everyone having and enjoying the whole event, there are a lot of games played on the table and it was all of Pansy's ideas and Neville doesn't mind, letting himself loosen up with everything, joining every single drinking game where everyone was even surprised. Neville? Participating in that kind of game? That's unbelievable! But Theodore isn't exactly the one who backs down when it comes to these types of games so it was a tough game— Hermione and Ron still the same as they were in school, Draco and Harry finally saw the light of their love, Ginny and Luna has always been them since school, Pansy and Daphne, Dean and Seamus, Cedric and Mattheo, Theodore and Enzo, Lavender and Parvati. The list can go on and on with everyone having a partner but someone is missing from the list which is Neville who doesn't have one he tried not to be bothered by it, not thinking much of it and ignoring the feeling he was experiencing while being here— A lot is going on in one place with this whole almost party happening.

when Neville was sitting with his mostly drunk friends but some were still sober, taking care of their partners and reassuring them with whatever they needed— Luna and Dean were talking as Neville listened to their conversation on how they were in Hogwarts to comparing how they are now— Neville just nodded back, listening to the words, full attention to them but all of a sudden it broke.

His focus was on something else, Dean and Luna didn't notice this so they kept blabbering with their conversation— Neville was frozen when he heard that laugh.

A specific laugh.

The one he always heard before.

And The one that also caused him to laugh too.

His eyes scanned the whole place, looking for where is that laugh coming from, feeling his whole body tense up from it— eyeing every corner and section his eyes encountered before he finally found where it came from.

Blaise.

Blaise is here? Pansy told him he was in France! Why didn't she tell him that he was there— Neville continued to look at that one exact bloke from far away, felt his knuckles turning white as he put pressure on it, Luna finally noticed that Neville's attention was on something else and she wanted to know what is it.

"Neville?" Luna said Neville rose from his seat, not responding to Luna's call, he felt like he needed to get out of there— Luna watched him walk away from their table when she finally decided to turn around and look at what caught Neville's attention, seeing Blaise again, for the first time.

Luna already knows what Neville is feeling so she just lets him go, she knows it's hard for him to see Blaise again.

When Neville walked past where Blaise was sitting, he could feel eyes on him, turning around to see who was staring and saw— Blaise looking at him, He looked at Blaise with nothing to say, isn't it strange? Where in the old times, Blaise and Neville couldn't already strike up a conversation like the old days? How people can change? People do go from strangers to friends, friends into lovers, and strangers again. Their minds keep racing with thoughts of what to say but never seem to get out of their mouths.

Neville felt the tension but walked it off, feeling like he wished he hadn't come here in the first place— Blaise left his seat immediately when Neville was out of the door, slamming his drink on the table, running after him as he also felt eyes were on him, pansy and his whole friend group looked at him with unknown expression on their faces.

"Blaise!" Pansy exclaimed but Blaise ignored her and continued to run after Neville.

★★★★★

Neville was far from the event where it was getting quieter every time he took a step forward— Neville's head was filling up with thought after thought, his head felt like it's gonna explode any second before he heard the voice call him out, it was only them in this area.

"Neville." A desperate voice spoke, feeling chills go down his spine after hearing a specific voice that before made him feel better and wanted but now just made him feel like shit to himself— Blaise's voice has shaky, hearing a hint of fear from it.

"No.. no. Blaise, no." Neville shook his head, he felt a very heavy feeling on his chest getting even heavier making him have a hard time breathing.

"I'm not falling for you again, no! I won't make a fool out of myself."

"You look as beautiful as the day I've lost you." Blaise stepped closer to him, turning Neville to face him, reaching for his cheek and rubbing his thumb against it, staring through Neville's green emerald eyes— Neville felt his lungs were trying to fail him on how he couldn't breathe properly but he caught his breath as he looks up at him, the eyes, his eyes that he used to admire and love, the eyes he can stare at for hours and now can't even look less than a minute.

"Stop, Blaise, please stop." Neville missed his touch, craving for more of it but he forced himself not to fall for his gestures, pushing his hand away as the tears were forming in his eyes, feeling his fist clenched.

"I came back to apologize-"

"Blaise, please. Stop." the more Blaise spoke, the more Neville tried not to fall for his trap, making him feel this heavy emotion digging through his chest that might hurt like getting shot— Neville stepped back, putting his hand up to stop him from getting close to him even if this was the man who made him look up at the gasp of sunlight and missing him more than anything.

"I'm sorry...  I know what I did was terrible but, Neville, please, you know that I was 17!" He explained, pleading with the tone of his voice, he felt a deep ache inside of him, perhaps more from his heart— he wanted Neville to hear his explanation on why, how, and what.

"We were kids! What do you expect? Do you expect me to fight for my life? What am I even gonna fight for?! I have everything I need!" Neville was feeling the rage go over his veins, traveling through his body but his mind was on another stage— the feeling of hating someone for what they did but missing them like a little kid. He looked at Blaise, forcing himself to listen to any words that'd come out of his mouth.

"Please, Neville," he added before Neville bit his tongue to not let himself tell anything but his emotions just came overflowing as they had been kept deep inside for years.

"Everything? What about me?! You didn't even think of me! You just left like I was nothing to you!" tears started to form while Neville continued to speak his mind, you could hear the pain in his voice by the shaking and his hands were trembling as he cried almost the amount of a river— he closed his fist, looking away from his sight and to avoid it as well.

"For crying out loud, it was war!" Blaise pinched the bridge of his nose as a gesture of disappointment for himself that he'll see his...

This person cries about what he's done to him.

"We could've been something if you had the guts. I was 17 too and I fought, I fought for you, for us! Thinking we can't be defeated  because we still have a future Together!" It seems like Neville was good at hiding his emotions that you can only once see him like this, tears flowing down his cheeks, it was never-ending tears and his voice changed while his body was shaking— he was like a bomb that blew up after burying all of his emotions down right to his heart.

"I'm sorry..."

"Your apologies are all in words, Blaise, but you can't even say anything. I'd been writing to you for three years straight after you left! So that you know, I can't seem to have a respond back." The rage was all over the place, you could feel the anger by how he was acting right now.

"Neville, I was too ashamed to tell you anything or speak to you because of what I did!-" Blaise gave him a pleading look where he truly knew he messed up with Neville— but the fact that he did read all of his letters that was sent for him by Neville and was too afraid to say anything, meanwhile, for Neville thought Blaise had brushed and burned every single one of it which isn't pleasing to think about.

"You made me look like an idiot by believing that you'd stay? STAY?! BLAISE? The day you left was also the day you said you wouldn't!" Neville kept continuing what he had been putting deep into his chest and finally letting it out, all the rage that he felt at this moment was something he never thought he'd do but who doesn't want to release every anger that you've been feeling and hidden for years.

"You know what, Blaise? Maybe I'm not a fucking genius but when it comes to you? I get dumber and dumber. You make me do these stupid things for you and look how it ended." his heart was beating rapidly

"I thought for once in my life, let me get what I want. Godric's sake knows it would be the first time! I never wish for anything big, Blaise. The wish I thought I'd finally get was for you to fucking stay that day, stay with me! By my side."

"Neville, I apologize for failing to keep our promise. I'm sorry I left, but, I thought it was for the best. Though it never felt right."

"It's not that Blaise. I know It won't be true but the fact that you hurt me so fucking much that the pain is still here. HERE! it's been years and I still haven't moved on from what you did. I wish I could. I tried to forget about it. I did"

"You make me feel like a fool, waiting for you to come back, even if the chances were small."

Neville grabbed his hair and pulled it, the alcohol was finally him with the biggest headache ever— he felt like he needed to puke because his stomach was already retching so he tried to walk away but it got to him, made him throw up on the spot, right then and there.

Neville coughed before he spit on the ground, covering his mouth— he looked up to see Blaise handing his handkerchief, it was.. his. The handkerchief he brought and gifted to Blaise.

"Here."

But Neville didn't take it and wiped his mouth with his forearm and coughed, his vision was blurry where he could see doubles— Blaise stared at him, putting back his handkerchief into his pocket but never taking his eyes off of Neville.

"I can take care of myself, thank you. Been doing it for 5 years. I don't need you." Neville said with an irritated smile, a tone of sarcasm in his voice but his eyes were still kind of hurting from all the tears he cried.

And that was the last thing Neville said before he passed out.

★★★★★

Last night was horrible!

Neville woke up from his bed, confused about how he got there on the other hand, his body felt like it's gonna die any second but not that normal feeling he used to feel every day when he was tired and this was a new kind of tired— he looked at what he was wearing and saw that he wasn't wearing the clothes he did last night, he was in his jps but he shrugged it off, not thinking a whole lot of it.

His eyes landed on his desk and saw that there was a medicine next to a glass of water with a small note that said;

" Hey, if you're seeing this then you probably already saw the medicine so drink it! I know you were probably experiencing the worst headache ever! This is Luna by the way :) made you some breakfast before Ginny and I left. Eat up, Nev! "

Neville smiled as he thought of his best friends still took some time to take care of him, he felt a little happy besides that they were busy with their own lives but still had time for him— He took his medicine and drank some of the water to wash it down, wishing his headache can leave him alone after that— he got out of bed, yawning with a heavy head full of thoughts and questions that he can just overthink about them asking someone for the answers.

He went to his living room and saw that there was the breakfast Luna had made for him, it was his favorite— a smile formed, the smile that special people can only see and make him show, it was the sweetest smile actually where if you see it, it'll also make you smile— he grabbed a seat on before grabbing the utensils, ready to dig into this delicious food that was prepared by than Angel, Luna.

He started to eat his food, every bite was flavorful and absolutely tasty since it was made by his best friends who took care of him after a long night and he did owe them a favor for spending their precious time and energy just for him so he thought on how he'll get back to them to return it— he grabbed the glass of water he prepared for himself earlier and drank it to wash some down before he heard a knock on his door when he know there's no one else he invited in his home at this current time and situation.

He stopped for a second, dropping the utensils on the table as he rose from his seat as well his thoughts filled his head with questions on who could be at the door.

"Blaise.. What exactly are you doing here?"

"I wanted to check up on you because of what happened that night." Blaise stared at him and it seemed like he was hiding something behind him but Neville didn't even bother to question it and went on the obvious reason— Neville stood up straight, fixing his posture.

"What happened last night.. exactly?" He asked Blaise back with much more curiosity in his tone.

"Oh, of course. When you've got that level of tolerance, you can't recall anything since you drank so much alcohol."

"Fuck off Blaise." This reply got Blaise letting out a chuckle as he crossed his arms to look more threatening in the eyes of Neville, raising an eyebrow— Neville felt his eye twitching out of anger but he kept it inside and took a deep breath.

"I was carrying you here, you were quite heavy, if you know."

"Were you the one who?-.."

"Well.. Who do you suppose is going to do something like that besides me?"

"..." Neville felt silenced, I mean come on? How can he guess that the one, his "hero"/kind person who he thought brought him safety at home is none of his friends but his ex?

"Alright, alright I'm sorry.. besides! Luna and Ginny asked me a favor to drive them here to take care of you, anyways, all jokes aside, I was hoping to talk with you, sober this time."

Neville paused, thinking about the decision he was about to make but just let him in since what could happen? Right?

"Before we start, do you want some coffee?" he suggested as his glare was on Blaise who was sitting on his couch, putting his leg on top of the other before relying.

"I don't mind."

Blaise said with a smile before Neville went to his small kitchen, turning his back, and started to pour coffee into the two cups— He added two cubes of sugar to the left cup before putting 1 cube of sugar and cream in the other.

He went back and Neville handed it to Blaise and this made Blaise have a cheeky smile on his face as he grabbed the cup from Neville, taking a sip before he looked up at him.

"You remembered?"

"Remembered what?"

"How I like my coffee.."

Neville was silent before he took a sip of his, sitting down as he tried to not look Blaise in the eye but Blaise didn't let this awkward silence take over so he started the conversation.

"I have something to give you."

"And what is that?"

Blaise pulled out a small box, it was very small but Blaise put it on the table, pushing it towards Neville.

"open it."

Neville opened it and saw letters, a lot of letters— he pulled some out of the box, seeing the date, who is it from and for and it was actually from Blaise and on the same date when Neville was also writing to him.

"what is this?"

"I did write to you. I didn't send it because I felt guilty, and I didn't deserve to have and get those pleasant messages."

"Oh."

"Sorry for keeping you waiting for 5 years."

Neville sighed heavily, he tried not to look weak and putting down on his side, felt his chest get heavy from all the emotions he was feeling at this very moment but he kept it inside and pasted an emotionless face.

"I've also got you these... Flowers, when I saw them, I thought of you."

"What's this for?" he insisted on having the flowers, pushing them back to Blaise as Blaise resisted that he should keep them.

"Nothing. I simply want to give it to you. When it comes to plants, you're the only one in my thoughts. Aren't you a herbology professor now?" Blaise checked it— he thought that Neville was now the professor that he expected him to be as that was his wish from the start after all.

"No." Neville dryly answered him, looking at something before his attention was on Blaise again.

"Why not? I assumed that was your dream."

"Well, I don't truly feel good about working at Hogwarts and my goal isn't really that if it's lacking something but I am running a flower shop."

"Flower shop?"

"Yes, even if my dream didn't come true there's always another plan that will work out," Neville replied— the thought of him being a professor is amazing and all but he wouldn't exactly claim his dream when that dream of his was also someone's dream; Blaise to be a potion professor but he kept his other promise that if that wouldn't work out then he'll try to do a business where his herbology knowledge has some use.

"That's great to hear.." Blaise said as Neville mumbled a small 'hm' to sign he agreed— Blaise felt something inside of him ease up where he wanted to say something but he thought will it be a good idea??

?

?

?

?

?

"I love you, Neville."

The silence was too loud and taken over by their small pause, Both of them could hear the things around them, the birds, grass swaying outside, and more where it could take their attention but Both of them were still staring at each other, Blaise biting his lip out of nervousness and Neville blinking like he wants to wake up from his weird dream.

"And I loved you, Blaise."

Blaise's eyes looked at the ground, feeling embarrassed and ashamed of what came out of his mouth that it caused him to fidget to try and calm down his veins and the tension he created—before Neville realized what he was fidgeting with

An engagement ring.

Neville looked, staring at him blankly before speaking, putting his cup down on the table that caught Blaise's attention.

"I think we chatted enough now. It's time for you to leave don't you think?" Neville stood up from his seat, he felt angry at himself, and by letting him get fooled again and again even if he swore it'll be the last time but no, he'll always be the fool Blaise always get the chance to play with.

".. Neville, I know this is-"

"I've given you too much chance and I'm the only one who gets hurt at the end for fucking sake!" Neville had too much on his mind like why is and what that and how about this— he wished that he never got himself in this mess in the first place— he even got more frustrated with Blaise when he tried to explain but Neville already pissed off so he can just keep his shitty apology to himself.

"Don't you ever come back here? Fuck.. Blaise, why do you always get to do this? I was doing fucking fine without seeing your face and you came here going back to show off that you're getting married to my face?! Fuck you. get out!" he said as he signed him to leave out of Neville's sight, saying everything that was on his mind at that current moment— Blaise got up and looked at him with his pleading eyes that he knows will always make Neville forget whatever he was on but not this time and Neville stood up on his ground, grabbing the flowers off his couch and pushing it towards Blaise, gesturing him to just keep the stupid flowers— Blaise was outside, picking up the flowers that fell and that was the last scene Neville saw before he closed the door on Blaise's face.

he locked the door as he heard Blaise leave, feeling his knees get weak where he couldn't stand and a few seconds later he fell on the floor as he sobbed his heart out, crying all the pain he felt during this moment of disaster— he curled up into a ball as he covered his face while he cried, he wanted to talk to someone at this very moment but he also felt doesn't want to bother any of his busy friends so he just stayed where he is and cried his heart out for hours.

*few months later*

“Are you sure... you want to do this, dear?” a small soft-spoken voice asked him as this figure touched his shoulder, feeling the warmth of it.

“I'm fine, its been months, pans! and i dont want you to be left alone right? that's what friends are for.” He gave pansy a soft smile, letting her know it'll all be okay and plus he doesn't want her to be left behind without a partner since Daphne have something going on that she sadly won't be coming with her.

Pansy gave him a concerned face that says, 'you don't have to force yourself for me.' look but Neville tilt his head slightly and laughed abit before replying.

“Don't give me that look.. I wouldn't like you to miss out on your best friend's wedding.” Pansy rolled her eyes at him and smiled— he felt happy that he did this for pansy cause it would be terrible for missing out of her best friend's wedding.

“Longbottom, whatever weed your on right now is really hitting you hard and excuse you for not asking me if i want some! That's absurd!” Pansy jokingly said as they both walked in, Pansy giggles at her stupid teasing making some people's attention put on her.

“Shush! And I'm not high..”

“Really? That's the first time.”

“Pans...”

“Whatever.. we're early so all we need to do is wait- oh nevermind! Look, there's my wives.”  She started to point out two people from the crowd that was walking up on the ceremony, filled with smiles and has very fashionable outfits.

“You have other wives?”

“Salazar.. You still have that idiocy trait from Gryffindor, don't you? I mean Ginny and Luna! It had been quite some time since we last hung out. I miss my gals, especially Ginny. Daphne had been craving a girls' night out. You can babysit babies, right, sweetie?" Pansy gently caressed his shoulder, and Neville glanced at him, furious, as if he had never been insulted in his life.

“..okay but that is gonna cost you now.” He crossed his arms, moving more closer to her as they made their way towards; Ginny and Luna.

“i thought asking for favors from you is free.”

“Not for that request!”

“Come on.. all you do is cry, sob and cry again all day for the last months!”

“Okay, okay, jeez.. you dont need to broadcast it.. you can almost put in on the daily prophet.”

“Should i?”

“No.”

“Just kidding, darling!”

“Haha.. funny, hilarious, cracking me up”

The wedding ceremony was a lavish event, with beautiful decorations and an atmosphere of joy and love. It was like something out of a fairy tale— The ceremony began with the announcement of the newlyweds and their friends and family. Everyone sat down, eager to watch the event unfold. After the speeches, it was time for the vows— The bride and groom stood at the altar and exchanged their vows.

As Neville listened to the vows, he couldn't help but feel his heart breaking. He felt an overwhelming sense of sadness and regret, and he felt like he wanted to burst into tears. It was hard for him to hold back his emotions as he heard the groom make promises and commitments to his new partner.

Then it was the time.

Neville heard the preacher say,

“Speak now or forever hold your peace.”

This sentence made Neville tremble in fear, feeling like his lungs were not working as he felt himself standing up from his seat.

There's the silent, there's his last chance to say something— Pansy looked at him and notice that his hands were shaking but Neville kept them together, all eyes on him.

Horrified looks from everyone in the room, staring at neville with curiousity and more unknown emotions from the look on their faces, some were whispering, some were worried and some just wanted to see what's gonna happen.

The preacher looked at neville and it also took the grom and bride's attention to Neville— his feet were shaking like it's about to collapse at any given moment.

Neville didn't care about whoever was staring at him cause he was only looking at someone, the grom; Blaise.

“Neville?” He felt a hand on his shoulder, tapping him as he finally came into his senses, going back to the real world— he felt his whole body was tense but he tried to relax.

“Are you okay?” Pansy checked up on him, she was sitting right next to him and she noticed he was sweating like crazy but before Neville could reply, that's where they heard something.

“I do.” a male voice said before they heard another female voice say the exact words— a few seconds later, everyone has rosen up from their seat and started to clap, woohing and congratulating.

Neville looked and saw the two, new 'happily married' people kissing on the middle of the altar, both has a sweet smile on their face and when they were done they waved on the crowd.

He and the Grom's eyes met but one has tears falling down his eyes and the other has a pleading look as it still tried to smile.

“I think I'll need some fresh air..” Neville said before walking out, not paying any mind on the people who tried to call on him as he left.

“Congrats.” Neville said to the Grom and Bride, trying to keep a smile on his face— he can feel his eyes were watering again but he stopped it and keep his happy smile up— Blaise looked at him before to his new wife,

“Thanks... Neville.”

“I wanted to give both of you these.” Neville brought out a small plant which were flowers, not just any flower but the flower that was always on Blaises' mind and the reason why Neville and Blaise spoke that one herbology class and became much more than that— Blaise stared at it as he accepts it and thanking him again with a soft thank you.

And Neville started to walk away as Blaise's eyes followed him.

His new wife stood up and talked to her family and his family, laughing and having a fun conversation when Blaise's mind went on Neville's gift, grabbing it again and examining it before he found a note under the small plant pot.

"Dear, Zabini

I like you, I love you and I loved you and I miss you. I can't believe you wouldn't tell me anything; you've cost me enough by acting as if you care about my feelings, yet deep down I still care about you. Wishing you a good life that was once promised was gonna be ours and if someday the moon calls you by name.. don't be surprised, because maybe it's how much I tell her about you. I hope you know that to love you is to drown every day and still crave the taste of the ocean. Wanted to say thank you for everything! I know this isn't alot but i suppose the memories is much more meaningful.

A lot of love, Once yours; Neville Longbottom.”

Blaise crumbled it, putting it inside his pocket before his wife grabbed him by the arm and started to talk again but his attention was all on someone, he looked where Neville was and immediately spotted him.

Neville was already looking at him, the eyes, those emerald eyes which stared at him hours without getting tired.

“This is how it ends?” Pansy nudged him, making his eyes onto her.

“Atleast he was happy which I'm glad Godric finally heard my wish and made it come true.”  he stared at the newly weds, thinking that maybe, just maybe..

In another universe where there's a chance Neville and Blaise can be what they could've been.
