Blue blood
After the excitement of the race cooled down and crowds dispersed the group of four decided they’d go visit Golden Eagan and the others. Hydra had left to go brag to his siblings that he’d be racing again. Although at least in Greaseball’s opinion, bragging that you predicted she’d win a race was like bragging that you predicted the sun would rise in the morning. However the new circumstances did raise and important question.
”So… do was let Hydra in?” Pearl asked as they made their way to the mechanic shed. Greaseball shook her head.
”Haha no.” She responded curtly “look I… tolerate the guy just as much as the next train but…” Greaseball paused for a moment trying to think of a nice way to say if. “He’s a loud mouth, if we tell him he’ll tell the other freights, and before you know it everyone in the yard will be in on it.”
“You… have a point.” Rusty said back. He knew the freights better than anyone. Since they’re basically siblings and they work together a lot. If there’s one thing Rusty learned, it’s that you don’t share your secrets with a freight truck. “Honestly I think their worse gossips than the coaches.”
”Wait SERIOUSLY?” Dinah chirped loudly “I didn’t think that was possible!”
”oohhh what kind of secrets do they spill on the line?” Pearl asked, eyes full of curiosity.
”Just that Blue lighting was planing on asking Belle out after the races.” Rusty shrugged. Both Dinah and Pearl smiled Greaseball laughed to herself.
”That ain’t news, she’s been blathering on about that for weeks.” Greaseball answered flashing back to the hours of chatter Blue lighting inflicted upon her, almost all of it had something to do the the sleeping car.“Drove me nuts.”
”You knew and you didn’t TELL ME?” Dinah stopped Greaseball for a moment, Greaseball shrugged.
”Well yeah, Blue said she’d throttle me if I told any one.” She responded crossing her arms “course she wouldn’t beat me in a fight I just didn’t feel like dealing with it.”
”Awwww how sweet!” Pearl gushed. “Honestly I hope Belle takes it. Both her and Tassita have been pretty lonely since we moved out of the coach shed.”
”Hehe yeah, and Belle can help Blue lick her wounds when she loses the race.” Greaseball joked. Suddenly a desperate cry for help whipped the smirk right off her face. The group turned to see Silver bullet clinging to Blue lighting for dear life. Blue looked awful, their face was bruised and oily, their plating was dinted and scraped, she only looked about half awake. They quickly rushed over to them.
”What on earth happened?” Rusty asked in a panic.
”I don’t know, someone beat the piss out of her!” Silver bullet responded, “I found her under the bleachers, she can’t tell up from down right now.”
”Guys you go up ahead, tell Sludge what happened.” Greaseball said, quickly skating over and slinging Blue’s other arm over her shoulder. “I’ll help you drag her over there.” Silver bullet nodded, grateful for the help.
Greaseball had mostly been quiet as they made their way to the mechanic shed. Sludge had been ready and waiting. They managed to heave Blue up onto a flatbed with a fair amount of effort. Greaseball cringed as she heard Blue groan in pain. Wishing she’d been a bit gentler. Dinah pulled her back as Sludge jumped right to work, but Greaseball couldn’t take her eyes off them. A white hot rage began boiling deep inside her. It didn’t take a genius to figure out who did this, but yet again she didn’t have any proof. Because of what she did last year the marshals wouldn’t trust her anymore either. Her big name is likely what draw that bastard to their yard in the first place. It’s her fault this evil was brought to their doorstep and it’s only going to get worse if she doesn’t do something. The thought of any more of the people she cared about getting hurt had her seeing red. “I’m going to fucking kill him.” She muttered quietly.
”Huh?” Dinah asked gently “What was that sweetie?”
”I’m going to FUCKING KILL HIM!!!” Greaseball screamed turning around and racing off. In a panic Rusty was just able to grasp her, slamming fully on his brakes. That didn’t stop her though, while much slower she kept trudging forward. Both Pearl and Dinah were able to catch up and they all started pulling. Desperate to stop Greaseball from making a mistake.
”Greaseball honey stop, please!!!” Dinah pleaded. Pulling with all her might and digging her heels in the dirt.
”Holy cow! Greaseball snap out of it!!” Pearl groaned, clinging to her forearm for dear life.
”Breathe girl, breathe!!” Rusty called out. As they desperately pulled back they could tell she was starting to run out of steam. It was only a question of what would hold out longer, Greaseball’s rage or Rusty’s grip?
Turns out the answer was neither, as Dinah used her strength to wrap herself tightly around Greaseball’s torso. Her hand reaching up to touch Greaseball’s face. Just as Rusty’s hold began to slip Greaseball slowed down. She buried her face in Dinah’s shoulder and let out a frustrated scream. Of course, her love for Dinah is what would win. It’s an unstoppable force and an unmovable object. “He did it, that rat bastard did it!” He heard Greaseball mutter, Rusty knew what she was talking about. Sargent is the one who put down Blue. Knowing this disturbed Rusty quite a bit, so far his violence had been limited to the track. Now all bets were off and as long as he was here no one was safe. He understood Greaseball’s rage, but whether or not Sargent did it attacking him right now would only result in Greaseball getting into serious trouble.
Pearl and Rusty stood back and let Dinah and Greaseball have a moment. No one can calm the raging diesel like her gentle dining car.
”and you’re telling me you’re mom was able to pin her down just by herself?” Pearl quietly muttered to Rusty, a little out of breath.
“Yeah, my Mama is built different Pearl.” Rusty responded. After a couple minutes of quiet Greaseball and Dinah turned back to the two. A little bit of running mascara trickling down their cheeks.
”Sorry I freaked out like that.” Greaseball muttered looking a little embarrassed. “I’m just so sick and tired of him getting away with hurting people, so frustrated that we can’t do anything to stop him yet.” Her eyes didn’t meet theirs and her fists were clenched tightly. “I just want him gone.”
”But Greaseball we have to be smart about this. If you go after him now you’ll be the one to get punished.” Dinah responded. She could get a lifetime race ban, kicked out of the yard or worse… thrown to the scrap yard. Mama wouldn’t be able to protect her if she assaulted another train in what they would assume to be cold blood.
”Yeah… I know.” Greaseball responded. “I’m sorry guys, and uhh good on you for stopping me. I’m actually kinda impressed.”
“Let’s just say I have new respect for Mama.” Pearl smiled, that made Greaseball laugh.
