"I refuse to lose to her again. " Draco Malfoy muttered to himself as he watched Hermione Granger study by herself in the library. Every year he always comes second place to Granger, of all people, when it comes to grades. For four years now, Granger has bested him in every subject. In every subject he places right behind Granger in scores.

"She must be getting benefits for being Potter's friend. " Draco whispered while glaring at Granger.

How else could her grades be better then his? She's a mudblood and he's a pureblood. He's spent his entire life being taught by the best tutors money could buy. Every subject taught at Hogwarts (and more) have been taught to him since he was able to read and write. But Granger wasn't taught any of that growing up. She should've been near the bottom of the list in scores when the exam results came out but instead she was top of their year! Leaving Draco at a mere second place. Draco had hoped that Slytherin would at least win the House cup so he could have that win over her but she stole that from him too! Granger, Potter, Longbottom, and that Weasley all stole the House cup from Slytherin, making him second place to both her and the entire Gryffindor house.

Scowling, Draco attempted to focus on his essay. He's supposed to be finishing his essay for Transfiguration but instead his thoughts keep drifting to Granger.

Granger and her stupid bushy hair and buckteeth, smooth dark skin and beautiful chocola-- NO! He's not letting that thought finish. Somehow scowling even harder, Draco looked down and noticed that he had spilled ink all over his essay.

"That bloody mudblood making me mess up my essay. " Draco said bitterly as he cast Scourgify on his essay.

Thankfully he knew how to properly control the spell and only got rid of the ink spill not his writing.

Bitterly, he acknowledged the fact that Granger would most likely score first in grades once again because Potter's participating in the Triwizard Tournament. "Fucking Dumbledore and his favoritism of the Gryffindors. " Draco muttered as he glared one last time at Granger before (finally) continuing writing his essay.

He had only written two more lines before he heard a chair scraping against the floor. He looked up and noticed that Granger was getting up and packing her things. 'Finally, ' Draco sighed 'Now I can finish this essay without get distracted by filthy mudbloods who have no place in this school. '

If he had it his way no mudbloods would even know about the existence of Hogwarts, let alone practice magic. But alas, Dumbledore and his pro-muggle and mudblood feelings wouldn't ever allow that. If his father was headmaster tha--

"Excuse me Malfoy, but if you're gonna stare at me and criticize my every movement then maybe you should try to be less visible about it. " Great, he had assumed Granger was leaving but apparently she was just planning on bothering him and sabotaging his essay.

"What makes you think I was staring at you?" Draco said, scowling.

His heart was reacting to his rising anger. It was beating fast and making his face turn red. His anger was making him feel all funny inside.

Granger sighed tiredly, "I don't have time for this, I have to help Harry prepare for the next challenge. "

Draco watched as she adjusted her bag and walked away. His heart was still racing even as he watched her leave the library. Once she was out of sight his heart slowly started to slow down. Even when she was gone he couldn't stop thinking about her. Her floral scented perfume lingered in the air a bit longer even though she had left the library two minutes ago. Sighing Draco realized something.

He's never getting his essay done.
