Regulus POV

Regulus did not think he liked dating. From his experience, which was really just tonight, it sucked.

He had absolutely no idea why he had agreed to go on a date with Jack Avery, but sadly he had. Jack Avery was an idiot. An actual idiot, and having conversations with him was incredibly difficult. They had nothing in common, though Regulus found out about thirty minutes into the date that if he asked him about skateboarding, Avery would go into long speeches. Well, long speeches that only consisted of short simple sentences. But speeches that Regulus could just nod his head and not listen to.

So after two hours of nodding Regulus’ head, he was finally done. He was dropping Regulus off at his house, and Regulus would find a way to politely say that he never wanted to even be in the same room with him because he was a boring idiot. Avery jerkily pulled into the parking space in front of Regulus’ house. Apparently, his skateboarding skills didn't translate to driving skills.

"So Reg," He said as he tried to put his arm around him. Regulus wanted to stab him.

"Regulus." He corrected. He hated it whenever someone called him Reg. Well, someone who wasn't James.

"Regulus, I think there is really something between us." He said. Fuck. There wasn't anything between them. Regulus wished there was a large quantity of distance between them but he had no such luck. "Oh. I don't know..." Regulus trailed off. He could just be a bitch to him. Just say no, and leave.

"I think so. And you'll be my boyfriend." Avery states as if Regulus didn’t get an opinion on the matter.

This bitch. He will not be his boyfriend. Regulus would rather pour bleach over his eyes than be his boyfriend.

"I-" Regulus was cut off by a knock on the window of the car. James. James was outside the car. He must have just gotten back from school.

"Who is that?" Avery asked.

"That's James." Regulus grinned. "Open the window, open the window." He urged. Regulus had missed him like crazy. They had gotten even closer during his last year of high school, and living on opposite sides of the country was pretty much unbearable.

"Hey Reg," James smiled, leaning into the driver's side window.

"Hey, James," Regulus responded with a wide smile plastered across his face.

"Who's this?" He said pointing to Avery.

"I'm Jack." He answered.

"And what are you doing with my Reg?" James asked.

'My Reg.' Regulus really liked being his Reg.

"He's my boyfriend." He responded. James frowned and Regulus glared at his supposed boyfriend.

"Boyfriend?" James asked, eyeing Regulus. His eyes widened trying to ask for his help. "Since when have you been dating?"

"We had our first date tonight, and we just decided to be boyfriends just now," He said proudly.

Regulus shook his head violently out of Avery's eyeline and he could see James bite back a laugh. James thought this was funny. Regulus was trapped being the world's biggest idiot's boyfriend and he thought it was fucking funny. He better help him.

"Well, congratulations," James said. "Have you met his mother yet?" That bitch. He is going to chase Avery off by using his mother. The second Regulus gets dumped for having a crazy bitch for a mom, he is going to get out of this car, give James a hug cause Regulus missed him an absurd amount, then he is going to slap him.

"Not yet," Avery responded.

"Well, good luck with that. I think I remember Regulus telling me about the time his mother said she wouldn't think twice about castrating any guy who distracted Regulus from school. And normally I'd assume that was a joke, but you know, she really isn’t the type to joke." James pointed to the house they were sitting in front of.

Regulus glared at the both of them. Boys suck.

"Oh." Avery breathed with wide eyes. "What kind of grades do you get Avery? Dr. Black probably would be fine if a top student dated Reg." He said. James probably thought he was so fucking smart.

Anyone who talked to Avery for five seconds could see he wasn't a top student. Regulus had never scared off any of James's girlfriends by saying that he was best friends with a loser.

"I- you know Reg," Avery turned to him.

"Regulus." He corrected.

"I've been thinking about us more." Regulus seriously doubted how much thinking he was actually capable of. "And I don't know if this is going to work. You seem really busy with school and I have a lot going on. Maybe now isn't the best time for us." Coward.

"Oh I hate to say it, but I think I agree. Bye, Avery." Regulus said as he quickly jumped out of the car and swung the door shut. As soon as he left the car sped away.

Regulus turned to James and jumped into his arms.

"Good to see ya Batman." He whispered.

"I think I hate you Super Man," Regulus responded still holding onto him.

"I'm really sorry. If I had known that your boyfriend was going to break up with you I wouldn't have said anything." James snickered, finally releasing him.

"You really couldn't come up with any other way to get him to leave than bringing up my mother?" He hit him lightly on the arm.

"Sorry, we can't all be masters at chase... We can't all be as clever as you." He said.

"I guess not," Regulus said as he put his hand through his elbow so their arms were locked. They both were well aware of Regulus's tendencies to chase off James's girlfriends. Regulus figured James knew about his crush and was just avoiding it. They were friends, great friends. And James was an 18-year-old college student who had somehow recently become even more exorbitantly attractive after joining the Rugby team. While Regulus had recently decided to go for the green hair and goth makeup look. So his plan was to be friends, maybe he could chase the girlfriends away for the rest of his life so he would have to settle for Regulus. It wasn't a good plan, but it was a plan.
