James
James sat on the chair watching the parade of parents and children walk into their house. This had to be the most boring day ever. His house was now filled with boring adults and boring three-year-olds. Why couldn’t his mom at least watch kids who were James’ age, like Sirius or Marlene? They were fun and they helped him play funny pranks on his parents, but his mom told him he had to help with playing with the 3-year-olds or else he wouldn't be able to hang out with Sirius later. Sirius was his best friend ever. He was a lot more fun than all of the other kids in the first grade. He usually is super smart too, but he would never tell Sirius that. And even if Sirius was smarter than the other kids, he still sometimes was really stupid, Like when he said that Santa wasn't real.
Everyone knows that Santa is real.
Much to James’ surprise, Sirius ended up walking through the door holding the hand of one of the smaller children. That was probably his little brother. James had never met him, but if he was half as fun as Sirius was then he would be awesome. James grinned ear to ear at the two boys who were making their way towards the rest of the group of young children. He wondered what sort of pranks he and Sirius would get into today. His mom always said that pranks were bad and not very nice, but James thought they were fun. Plus his dad said that his mom was just saying that so that she wouldn’t get retaliated at whenever she pranked them.
"James, come over here." His mom called out for him.
So he hopped off the big chair and made his way to the kitchen. There were people everywhere. He wondered why whether or not they didn't have their own houses to hang out at.
"James, can you play with Sirius and Regulus for a little bit? I need to take care of something." She asked with a grin.
He was pretty sure his mom knew that Sirius was coming today and that this was supposed to be a surprise for him.
"Sure Mom." He said quickly as he ran over and sat down with the two little boys who were playing with a stuffed animal raccoon and a stuffed animal dog.
"Hi." Sirius’ brother waved at him. He was really cute, way cuter than Sirius. He had curly black hair and super cool grey eyes. James didn’t think he had ever seen someone with that color of eyes. He also had a really big smile.
"Hello. I'm James. What's your name?" He smiled at the little boy.
"Regulus." He responded.
"And who are these?" He said pointing to the stuffed animals. He knew the dog’s name because it was Sirius’ favorite toy, but he didn't know who the raccoon was.
"This is padfoot!" Sirius yelled holding up his dog. “You know that.”
He named the dog that because their other friend, Remus, had suggested it. Remus always comes up with the best ideas, James doesn’t know how he does it.
"I know Sirius," James laughed. "What is the raccoon's name?" He asked.
"That's Trashy," Regulus said quietly.
"That's a funny name, Regulus," James said.
"Mom says raccoons belong in the trash, so he's trashy," He responded.
"Well, that makes sense." James grinned at the two boys.
On the other side of the kitchen, there was a skinny man who was on the phone. His face was bright red and he looked really angry. He was talking really quietly but he had a big frown on his face. James didn't think he liked him very much. The man hung up the phone and walked towards them.
"Sirius, we have to go." The man said as he stood in front of the two boys, still looking angrily at his phone. This was not good, Sirius absolutely hated his parents. The last thing James wanted to see was both Regulus and Sirius being forced to go back to their parents. Regulus was funny and cute and he couldn't go away with the angry man. He was going to yell at Regulus and then he's going to cry. That's what Sirius says happens when his dad gets really red and angry.
“Can’t Sirius stay?” James asked.
“No,” the man said solemnly as Sirius slumped a little.
“But you’re not taking Regulus, right?”
"What?" The man looked down at James with a confused expression
"You can't take him," James stated firmly.
"Sorry son, but we have to go meet Regulus's mother." Before James could do anything, the man grabbed Regulus’ arm and pulled the boy behind him.
“Oh, gosh,” he heard his mother say from across the room looking at the scene.
“Let go of him!” James cried, but Sirius just followed the man. He helped Regulus move fast enough to not be dragged by their father. After they left, James looked down with tears in his eyes and saw the cute little stuffed animal raccoon that the boys didn’t have time to grab before being dragged out.
