Chapter 3
Lily had her hood pulled up over her head, hiding in the middle of the Volturi guards as Edward, Bella, and Alice were brought forward by Jane.
“My dear Cullens, so good to have you back so soon Edward. What more, it seems dear Isabella wasn’t dead after all.” Aro greeted them with a smile.
Making his way down the Dias the Master vampire ran a cold hand down Janes cheek as he passed her by; frowning at whatever he saw.
“Oh Dear, trying to expose us, Edward? What would darling Carlisle say?” a hundred eyes glared down on the trio, Bella cowering at Edward’s side at their attention.
“Yes, it turns out it was all a misunderstanding Aro. As you can see Bella is alive, so I will no longer be needing your services.” Cocky shit, doesn’t he know the first rule about fight club? To try and expose an entire race of beings to get someone to kill you, he knows werewolves and many vampires, anyone could have killed him.
‘He is just narcissistic enough to think only the kings should be able to.’ Lily watched their argument unfold, Aro requesting a demonstration of Bella’s power. ‘Power?’
“Truly remarkable, I see nothing.” He released her hand. Oh? So, she is a natural Occlumens? Aro must not have encountered something like that before, it’s not that difficult to get around- since it’s a natural state for them, it means they never trained the ability- they never stand up well to direct probes, only rejecting the surface level scans.
“I wonder… if she is immune to all our gifts… Jane dear?” the small blonde stepped forward with a sadistic smirk and bright eyes.
“NO!” Edward ran in front of Bella dramatically- falling to his knees keening a moment later. Jane laughed; eyes locked on the struggling teen as he cried out.
“STOP- STOP! DON’T HURT HIM PLEASE!” Bella was frightened, tears pooling in her eyes. Sighing Lily stepped forward, placing a calm hand on Jane’s shoulder to make her stop the attack.
“I apologize, My King, would you allow me to show you something?” Aro hummed, holding out a pale hand in waiting; pushing forward the information she needed Lily held Aro’s hand, details being picked up from her mind by greedy fingers.
“Oh yes, I see. Isabella?” Aro called with a smile, free hand reaching back out to her. “Come my dear, let me try once more.” Hesitantly she shuffled forwards- Alice trying to pull her back was restrained by Felix.
Sweaty human hand grasped in his Aro pressed- releasing Lily to place his other hand on Bella’s temple. He was quiet for a few minutes, eyes locked onto Bella’s own.
Suddenly, the King gave a shrieking laugh, demented giggling escaping him. “Oh yes, yes I see, thank you for your insight beloved.” Aro smiled at Lily with madness in his eyes. “It seems our dear Isabella has a natural mind shield, of course, shields are not fool-proof.”
Aro re-joined Lily and Jane where they were standing, gently sliding the hood from Lily’s red hair causing horrid gasps to come from the three on trial.
“Lily? You’re alive?” Turning red eyes onto her sister Lily gestured to her body- “No.”
“Why couldn’t I see you? Everything changes when you’re here.” Alice sounded frustrated, a moment away from a breakdown.
“Am I supposed to know the answer to that?” probably because of death- he doesn’t like seers. Edward- still sitting on the ground is looking around with a tense face.
“I didn’t realize it was you, I heard them thinking about the new guard but… no one thought of your face or name. How did you get here?” He demanded.
“I don’t believe I’m the one on trial here, my king?” Aro clapped his hands, “ah yes too true, now, unfortunately, as we all know there are only two ways this trial will end. You will either kill Ms. Swan, or turn her. So, dear Cullens, which will it be?”
Alice pushes forward- “She’ll turn I’ve seen it!”
Lily thought it was stupid to drag the trial out anymore, Aro had already gotten what he wanted out of the exchange, he should have just passed his verdict down. He already knew he was going to let her live.
Finally- Aro announced his ruling.
“We are in agreement that you are free to go for now, but that Isabella must be turned as soon as she graduates high school, she will move away for “college” and return here to Volterra for five years as penance for our leniency. Of course, you are free to join her, Edward, we wouldn’t want to separate the… Happy couple after all.”
Aro waved them away, Felix leading the trio to the waiting room to stall until night fell. Joining Demitri Lily watched as the tourists were brought in, she didn’t participate although her mouth salivated at the spilled blood, she had just eaten the day before and was still uncomfortably full.
Half a year later the Volturi received an invitation to the wedding of Edward Cullen and Isabella Swan- Lily thought back on it, and they had only dated for what… two five-month periods? Five months, then he left her in the woods like an animal leaving her alone for five months, then they got back together and it’s been another five months?
‘Then again- she is our mothers’ daughter’ Lily was joining the Kings for the wedding but she had to wear a wig as not to be recognized by anyone in Forks.
Wearing fake brown contacts, and a long blonde wig Lily watched her sister walk down the aisle. They weren’t close- especially after Bella’s actions led her to be turned, taking away her chances of a short punishment; but Lily could admit that Bella looked happy to be here.
Guiding King Marcus after the ceremony Lily led him away from the group into a spot she knew of where he could be alone- standing guard by the edge of the clearing as he relaxed into the ground, staring up at the stars.
She wasn’t quite happy with the way things were going- quickly losing patience with this world Death had dropped her in. Lily joined the apathetic man in watching the stars- wishing she could just go home to Death already.
She would apologize when she saw him next.
“They have created an immortal child! Please Aro!” Irena Denali had brought a claim against the Cullens for breaking one of the most important laws known to vampire kind- the creation of an immortal child.
Lily, in her darker grey robe watched with indifferent red eyes- she was tired of this punishment already. Death had his laugh, it had been almost 20 years already, she did not want to spend an entire vampire existence in this universe.
She had thought going along with the Volturi would be less boring than wandering around aimlessly, but it wasn’t at all! All she could do was stand around in the throne room until the kings sent her on some mission to blow someone up.
Even the sex with Demitri had been losing its shine, they weren’t mates- it was just something to pass the time, Lily’s soul-mate was punishing her unfairly with this nonsense.
“Allow me to investigate the claim my king, they won’t think it anything except a sister trying to re-connect with her family.”
Getting Aro’s approval she set out at once- immortal child or no, it was time for drastic steps to be taken.
.. in forks …
There was a child playing in the snow, copper hair glinting in the sun as her skin illuminated gently; cute giggles floated through the air as she ran around playing with the oversized wolf.
Lily watched- she didn’t think it was a true immortal child, it had a heartbeat- making herself known she jumped into the clearing. The wolf was immediately snapping at her, herding the child back behind him. Flicking her finger, the tree next to him exploded violently, shards of bark stabbing into the furry body causing it to whine in pain.
“Now, we don’t have to fight, Jacob- didn’t you miss me?” Lily asked him mockingly before turning to the vampires that sped into the clearing.
“Ah, darling in-laws. How nice to see you; I suspect you were not anticipating my visit.” Staring at Alice as she said that Lily saw the tiny vampire fume.
“Lily!” Bella cried as she ran over to me, wrapping me in a forceful hug. Tapping her shoulder in reply I watched as the child was pulled closer by her mother.
“Lily, this is Renesmee, our daughter.” The child looked up at me with big brown eyes, holding out a hand in greeting. Still a sucker for children Lily held the small digits gently, but rejecting the images she attempted to push into her mind.
“Well met niece.” Releasing the child Lily looked around at the surrounding family.
She wasn’t a part of this, didn’t want to be a part of this. She knew she could only do one thing for this punishment to be finished.
“I was sent on behalf of the Volturi, Irene Denali has made claims against your child and coven. I recommend contacting Aro as soon as possible to clear the mess up. I have already sent over my findings, but you should have made them aware sooner. I don’t know if they’ll accept my report.”
‘Death, please, come to me.’ Lily called mentally
“What are you talking about? Lily?” Bella panicked, clutching her daughter close.
‘Yes, Master?’ the smug entity drifted into being, black smoke clearing to show the bone-white visage of Lily’s true soul-mate instead of the faces they liked to wear. Toxic orange eyes locked with pleading blood red.
‘Please darling, I’m so sorry, I won’t do it again.’ Death grinned in triumph- ‘Thank you lovely, that’s all I needed to hear.’
Death kissed Lily’s palm in thanks, both of them drifting away in the smoke leaving the altered world together- confusion and horror left in their wake.
