A velvety voice comes through the speakers, mesmerizing the listeners.
“Ooh, ooh
Ring, ring, ring, ring
You don't hit my line no more, oh, oh
You don't make it ring, ring, ring, ring
I can't keep this on the low
I want you to make it ring, ring, ring, ring”
A raspy voice takes over the melody, the kind of voice that puts an enchantress to shame. The raspiness of a long-time smoker and firewhiskey drinker, if they were a Wizard.
“Should I call first? I can't decide
I want to, but a bitch got pride
The switchin' up shit is what I can't fuck with
I'm feelin' you but you hard to get in touch with”
Remus’ letters begin to become nonexistent as the days turn into weeks and weeks turn to months and months into season.
“And you ain't hit me up in a while
Actin' like you don't know what number to dial
You quit, then that's it, I'm a throw in the towel
'Cause you only gon' do what you allow”
Floo calls began to become inconvenient and cell phones seemed like a perfect way to keep intimacy, then that began to be tiresome. Text became unopened. Missed calls became voicemail, voicemails became slurred words and empty promises mixed with mumbled sounds.
“You don't want this gun smoke
Learn to text with your nose if your thumb broke
I don't care if we gettin' to it and I stall on your a-
But I still wake up to missed calls from your ass”
James ignores Regulus planned visit during the winter Hols, James began to make excuses of not being home helping his father with potion ingredients shopping or helping his mother plan their Christmas feast. The last straw was when trying to floo in the Potter Manor Reggie was Blocked from entering. James knew that Reggie was only allowed a few days in London until he was needed back in France...
“You don't hit my line no more, oh, oh
You don't make it ring, ring, ring, ring
I can't keep this on the low
I want you to make it ring, ring, ring, ring”
When Regulus showed up unannounced at James' front door, it wasn’t James that answered it was a very pregnant Lily Evans. Shock was painted on the Red headed woman's face; James shows up behind her. “Reggie” James says in a remorseful whisper. Lily quickly rushes inside the house. Regulus punches James’ nose and throws the Daily Prophet at him as James scrambles to grab Regulus' hand. Regulus walks to a Sleek Black car that's waiting for him. James can't help but try to call Regulus, but it comes out a gargling mess, Regulus sits in the passenger seat and the car takes off.
“Nah, now you gon' have to call me (call me)
'Cause I'm lookin' at these messages, they all me (yeah)
Actin' like they ain't Men that want me
Let another Man in your spot, and you gon' be hot coffee”
Sirius walks into the 3 broomsticks and his breath gets caught in his throat causing a dog-like whine to come out. There he was Lupin sitting with his back to the door. Except Lupin wasn’t by himself, there was a man sitting way too intimately to be called a friend. Now he knows why there’s been no calls, no visits to France to see him. When the Black brothers were taken from their parents and were given into the custody of their Uncle Alphard. They had no choice but to move to France where they would finish their schooling. Although it pained them to leave their friends and boyfriends it was what was best for them. When they moved, they were able to finally understand the meaning of Familial love better yet they were able to experience the love of a father.
“You gon' be sick to your, stomach
Hit me when you free, 1-800
It's emergency, call me 911
'Cause right now I'm out here tryna find someone”
No words needed to be said when Sirius sat down in front of Lupin. One look from Lupin was all it took for Sirius to know what had transpired. Sirius smiles at “Grant '' as Remus can’t help but look into Sirius Eyes. The feeling of Remorse grows into his belly causing His wolf to become restless. When Sirius shifts his eyes to Remus, Remus can see in the depths of the Sirius Stormy Grey eyes he sees the gleam of Betrayal brewing. Sirius looks at his watch and makes an excuse to leave. There were no empty words of nice to meet you or let’s keep in touch. Just a goodbye to the “Not Lovers.”
“The ring on my phone, ring on my finger (brrr)
You actin' like you ain't tryna do either (yeah)
Once a good girl, watch me turn diva
Here goes my heart, I put it on speaker (oh)”
Sirius walks out of the Bar and Grill and see’s Regulus standing by a sleek Black car waiting to leave their once hometown. Stormy Gray eyes meet Lighting silver eyes as a promise flashed between them. The one misconception of The Black Family is they don’t get revenge they get even. They just make their enemies wish revenge was an option.
“You don't hit my line no more, oh, oh
You don't make it ring, ring, ring, ring
I can't keep this on the low
I want you to make it ring, ring, ring, ring”
That damn velvet voice can't stop the pain and yearning it brings to its listener’s. Painting a picture of the perfect lover waiting for their beloved to come home but knowing that their lover will never show. How were they able to do that? A heartbroken listener thinks, how can they know what that feels like. To feel like the one you truly loved walked away from you, because you left them no choice.
“You used to be on my line
On my tick all the time, yeah”
Love it when you make me feel
Like you don't mind when I ain't got time for you”
Regret is a feeling that time can never lessen the sting. Arrogance is what can push the one you love the most away,
“And no it don't go to my head, I'm only arrogant in bed
I just love to know you wanna spend time with me instead
Now you all caught up, yeah
You all caught up and you done left me alone, yeah”
Time can never take the taste of you away from me. I said things out of anger and fueled by alcohol in my veins. The world was ours for the taking, but in actuality my world was you, my next step was you. I just didn’t want to see it.
“You was all fed up
Ready for the next step, wanna be on your own
Said I just miss you, I just miss us, baby
All I know is”
“You don't hit my line no more, oh, oh
You don't make it ring, ring, ring, ring (you don't make it ring, baby)
I can't keep this on the low (yeah, yeah, oh)
I want you to make it ring, ring, ring, ring”
The radio host's voice breaks through the silence in the kitchen, where 2 men look at their Ring finger tan lines. “That's the new song “Ring” from The Duo~ Toujours Pur. Who caused a big scandal a few years back when it was discovered that they were The Heirs from The Black family in London. Or should I say Nee-Black as congratulations are in Order. Sirius Nee-Black is now Married to DA Lawyer Barty Crouch Jr who put his Father Crouch Senior in Prison for embezzlement and fraudulent claims. The younger Mr. Black just got engaged last night to his longtime partner Evan Rosier the Model and actor Mogul of Thorn Entertainment. Looks like both brothers got their RINGS!! And yes, pun intended. I'd hate to be there EX’s right now maybe they should have given a Ring.
James and Remus look at each other, before James forcibly turns the radio off with a pained expression that matched both of their aching hearts. The silence that fills Remus’ flat could never fill the holes in their hearts that the Black Brothers had left behind. Both men knew that no matter how hard they tried, they’d both stay single likely for the rest of their lives. Hearts scarred beyond repair. Both friends knew that they could only blame themselves for the pain they felt. The inability to be truly happy within their marriages while their hearts were still in France with the ones they lost while searching for comfort in another’s bed.
