Chapter 3
The next morning when Wash got up, he checked the time.
Almost 8AM, Tucker should be in detention about now, which means he’d be done at 9. It was Saturday and thankfully no classes and a break from studying. He got ready, adjusting his tie as he went to talk to his brother. “Think Snape gave Tucker breakfast?”
Leonard shrugged. “I mean…probably something. They can’t just not feed us.”
“Yeah. I might grab him some food anyway, just in case.”
“Still going to go out with him?” His brother asked.
Wash gave him a look. “You told me I should yesterday.”
“Cause I know if I try to push you away from him like the others are doing, it’s just gonna drive you to him more. But don’t think for one second I’m not in the same boat as them; I absolutely think it’s a terrible idea and you're gonna get your heart broken. But I support you and your terrible idea.”
Wash rolled his eyes. “Thanks. I guess. Let’s just get breakfast.” They walked into the great hall, the siblings all going to their respective tables.
Wash sat down with his friends South and Felix. Felix chuckled. “No books today?”
Wash smiled. “No. It’s the weekend. As much as I’d like to study I know I also need some rest time for my brain.”
South gave him a look. “Aren’t you supposed to be in detention?”
Wash sighed. “Well, turns out Tucker had faked all his mess ups in potions to try to get detention together. He ended up feeling so bad he told Snape and Snape let me off the hook and gave Tucker the next four Saturdays of detention to make up for it.”
South just looked confused as the food appeared. “Why would he want detention together?”
“He wanted us alone so he could ask me out, seeing as you and Carolina never give him a chance too.”
Felix rolled his eyes. “Well fucking duh, he’s a total man whore, he’s dated and dumped half the school, what makes you so special that you think he won’t do that?”
South nodded as she filled her plate. “He makes a good point Wash.”
Wash glared weakly. “Because he put in alot of effort to try to get me alone, from what I’ve heard he hasn’t done that with the others.”
South scoffed. “So you’re won over by just a little bit of effort?”
Wash rolled his eyes. “Com’on, he felt bad enough he confessed and is going through detention every Saturday this month, with Snape. That has to mean something right?”
Felix shrugged his shoulders. “Yeah, it means you might have a slim chance of him not dumping you when he’s board. But you also have the same chances of winning the lottery.” South held her hand up for a high five, Felix gave the high five.
Wash groaned as he stood, starting to put several snacks and sweet breads in his school shoulder bag. “I’m leaving.”
South glared weakly at him. “Hey, calm down. Look, if you really like the guy that much, I support you but if he hurts you, trust me when I say they will not be able to find his body.”
Wash just stared back. “That’s fine. I just want to at least give him a chance. Being in Slytherin, many people don’t give us the chance to prove we’re not evil or power hungry, I want to give him the chance people wouldn’t give us.”
South’s face softened, knowing the underlying message is about his father thinking he was evil. “Don’t be stupid with him, ok?” Wash just nodded, walking away and down to potions.
He waited outside the closed doors, looking at his watch. 8:50, not much longer now.
It felt like an eternity before the door opened and Snape was ushering Tucker out. But it eventually did, Snape speaking as he held the door open. “I shall see you next Saturday Mr. Tucker.”
Tucker just nodded as he walked. “Yes sir.” He said before the door closed on him. Suddenly he saw David. “Oh, why are you here?”
David smiled weakly coming over. “Because a little bird told me that you thought it was a great idea for us to get detention together so you could ask me out. I wanted to say that you’re an idiot.”
Tucker frowned. “I mean, if you don’t like me like that, you don’t have to be rude.”
“No, I mean the purposefully getting detention, not that I don’t like you like that.”
Tucker looked hopeful. “Really?”
David reached into his bag. “Here, I brought a few snacks for you, wasn’t sure what he fed you.”
Tucker smiled. “Oh Merlin, you are amazing. All I got was eggs and some toast. I missed all the good shit.” He said, reaching for the snacks.
David gave him a look before taking the snack away. “Don’t you have something to ask me?”
Tucker smiled weakly. “Oh, yeah. Uh David, would you like to go on a date, with me tonight?”
David smiled, handing him the pumpkin cookies. “I would love to.” Tucker grinned. “Fuck yeah.” he said as he took the pumpkin cookie.
David smiled. “You can call me Wash now, if you like.'' Tucker looked confused for a second, Wash continued. “Mostly just my dad and professors call me David. My middle name is washington, thats where it comes from..” Wash felt like he was explaining too much, a habit he often does when he's nervous. Tucker smiled at him. “Wash is perfect.”
Wash smiled. “Ok.”
Tucker smiled back, suddenly feeling his heart speed up. “Uhh I guess I’ll meet you at the fountain around 4?” Wash felt himself blush. “Yeah. What are we gonna do?”
Suddenly the potions door opened and Snape glared at them. “As happy as I am for you two I’d rather you plan your date away from my classroom. The sweetness is nauseating.”
Wash nearly jumped. “Sorry professor!” He grabbed Tuckers hand and forced Tucker to follow as they jogged away from the classroom. Tucker laughed as he nearly got dragged.
