Chapter 1
“Just ask him out already.”
Tucker huffed, one of his friends' sisters, Kai, a fellow Griffendor, made the statement. Tucker rolled his eyes. “I’ve tried. His snotty little slytherin buddies keep cock blocking me. Not to mention his siblings.”
Simmons spoke up. “What about during class?” He asked, taking a bite out of a pumpkin pasty.
“The only class we share without those assholes is potions and Snape would kill us both if we talked during class.”
Kai frowned. “Maybe we can cause a distraction and get him alone.”
Grif came and sat down next to Simmons. “Causing a distraction? What conversation did I walk into?”
Simmons huffed. “Grif, don’t you have your Hufflepuff table to be at? They’re gonna stare.”
“Meh, let them. So what’s going on?” He said as he stole one of Simmons pumpkin pastys.
Kai smiled. “We’re trying to find a way to get David alone so Tucker can ask him out.”
Grif spoke with his mouth partially full. “Get detention together.”
Simmons nearly gasped at the thought. “They’d be in huge trouble then.”
Grif gave him a look. “How are you a Gryffindor
“I don’t know, that stupid hat chose it. Must see something in me.” Simmons whined.
Kai smiled. “Not the first unexpected in a house. David comes from a family of Ravenclaws, the Church’s. He’s their first Slytherin. From what I’ve heard, the family was not happy about that. Even got sent a howler.”
Tucker spoke up. “I’m going with Grifs plan.” Simmons' eyes nearly bugged out. “What? You can’t be serious?”
Tucker shrugged. “It’s just detention, not like I’m risking getting us expelled. But how do I do it?”
Kai took a bite of an apple, like her brother Grif, also talking with her mouth nearly full. “That is gonna be tricky. He’s a Prefect and one of the best behaved ones in Slytherin, they won’t believe him to cause the trouble. You might have to provoke him into yelling at you during class.”
Grif chuckled. “Please do so during the class we share, I gotta see it.”
Tucker rolled. “Well tough luck, the only class I could possibly get away with this is potions and we don’t have potions together.”
Grif nodded, taking some paper and quill from Simmons, he always had more than enough on him. “Note to self, take invisibility potion for potions class- what time is that class Tucker?”
“2:30.”
Grif wrote it down. “2:30.”
Simmons rolled his eyes. “Are you seriously skipping class to see drama?”
“Of course. Way better than divination class with Trelawney.”
Tucker huffed as he ate some of his potatoes, starring over at the Slytherin table, watching David focus more on studying than eating, his buddies more focused on lunch and gossiping.
One trying to get David into the gossiping but he just chuckled and talked, gesturing to his schoolwork before he locked eyes with Tucker. Tuckers stomach did flips and he’s pretty sure his heart might explode as he gave a wave over. David smiled more brightly, making his blue eyes light up before the other blonde next to him, South, elbowed him before glaring at Tucker and saying something.
Kai stole one of Tuckers sweets off his plate. “Guess this is what you get for dating and dumping half the class.”
Tucker just thunked his head on the table, letting Kai have the rest of his food. He hates she’s right.
When lunch was over, everyone was starting to leave. As eveyone crowed through the main halls doors, he quite literally Bunped into David. David smiled. “Hi!”
Tucker swallowed, his stomach doing flips again, being so close to his crush. “Oh, hey.”
“Ready for our OWLS? I’ve been studying non-stop.”
“I saw, you study even during lunch.”
“I can’t let my grades slip. I know if they do, I’ll be more of a disgrace to my family than becoming Slytherin.”
“Right. Your family is all Ravenclaws.”
“For three generations.”
Suddenly, David’s sister, Carolina was dragging David away from Tucker. “What have I said about talking to him?”
Tucker frowned. “Bye…I guess.” He said as he continued to class.
David tried to wave but Carolina brought him to a quiet corner, her blue cloack swishing behind her.
“What have I said about him?”
David huffed. “I’m not a child, you don’t need to baby me.”
“WHAT have I said about him?”
David looked away. “That he’s a player that only wants people for their bodies and will throw me away as soon as he’s done but-“
“Right and because you can’t have a crush on someone who isn’t a player, I will have to keep reminding you-“
“But he’s really nice. Besides, he’s only dated girls. He doesn’t like me like that.”
Carolina shook her head. “I’m starting to see why your not in Ravenclaw with me and Leonard. Get to class.” David frowned as he jogged away, making sure he wouldn’t be late to Transfiguration.
Later that day David and Tucker managed to meet outside of potions. Tucker frowned. “I hope I didn’t get you in trouble earlier.”
David just shrugged as they got to their seats. “No, just my sister is a bit overprotective. She manage to insult me too.”
Tucker chuckled. “What did she say?”
“I told her that you only like girls and that you wouldn’t like me like that, ya know what she said?”
Tucker felt his heart pumping, thanking god that his dark skin managed to hide his blush. “What…what did she say?”
“She said I’m starting to see why you’re not in Ravenclaw.”
Tucker couldn’t help but agree with her, laughing out loud but suddenly the door slammed shut. Professor Snape came in, walking briskly to his podium.
“Quiet down. Every to your cauldrons, we will be making a strengthening solution- David!” David nearly jumped next to Tucker. “Can you tell me what two ingredients are used in this potion?”
David swallowed, racking his brain for them. “Salamander blood and…and powdered griffen claw?”
“Correct but only one point to Slytherin, it would do you good to stop seconding guessing yourself.”
David frowned, shrinking in on himself a bit.. “Yes sir.”
Snape gestured. “To your cauldrons, you heard David, Salamandor blood and powdered griffen claw. It is only two ingredients, do not disappoint me.”
Everyone moved around, getting their ingredients. Tucker got his cauldron and saw a small shimmer out of the corner of his eye, before seeing one of the many cauldrons on the floor move, as if someone tripped over it.
He walked over and whispered. “Grif?”
“You can see me?”
“Not really, I just noticed things over here that didn’t make sense, like a cauldron moving on its own without a spell.”
“If you noticed then Snape will, now stop talking to me.”
Tucker rolled his eyes, unable to believe that Grif would actually go through the trouble to sneak in for a little drama. He got his cauldron and made his way next to David who was already at work on todays potion.
David was pretty focused. Tucker shared the same table as him, starting to put his plan to work. He got his salamndor blood (he knew it wasn’t the first ingredient to put in, he had to act dumb for this to work) he took the cap off the bottle and pretended to fumble it, having it fall open on the table, the blood leaking out in a big pool. David huffed. “Tucker, please, be more careful, that could have fallen into my mixture.”
Tucker acted a bit. “Oops, yeah. Sorry, butterfingers.” David just ignored the comment and kept focusing on his mixture but Tucker could tell is was irritated.
Tucker went and got more salamandor blood before opening the powder and pretending to sneeze, hoping this will work.
It did. Much of the powder not only got in David’s mixture but on him as well, his green cloak and face covered in the powder.
David’s face was pissed off, if looks could kill, Tucker would be a dead man. He thought he heard Grif trying not to laugh. “What the hell Tucker?!”
“It was just a sneeze!”
“Your sneeze ruined my mixture!”
“Is there a problem gentlemen?” Snape said as he looked over the absolute mess they made their cauldron area. “What is this mess?”
David huffed. “This mess was Tucker! He completely ruined my mixture.”
“You can just make it again, we have more ingredients!”
“That’s not the point!”
“Enough!” Snape said with a glare.
Both boys went silent. Snape continued. “Perhaps your issues can be better resolved in Saturday morning detention? I want you both to report to my 8AM Saturday morning, is that clear?”
David looked devastated with that. “Detention?”
Tucker internally was celebrating, step one is out of the way, now he can actually properly talk and ask David out.
“Yes David, detention. This will be a first for you, make it a learning experience.”
David frowned, nearly pouting, he walked away silently to the washroom the potions classroom had. And Tucker suddenly felt like an ass. He wanted detention with him, he didn’t want him to feel bad.
Once David returned, He was quiet and Tucker is pretty sure he cried a little, his eyes and nose a little more red than they were.
Once class was over David nearly ran out of the room. The school day was over and Tucker felt like an ass. A little bit outside of Snapes room, walking down the hall, Griff caught up with him laughing. “Dude, that was way better than divination.”
Tucker huffed. “Shut up. I hurt his feelings. I feel like a total ass.”
“He’s a goody two shoes, of course getting dentition will hurt his feelings. But thanks for the free show.”
