Chapter 5

The soft chime of the door panel echoed in the quiet room, pulling Y/N from a restless sleep. She sat up abruptly, muscles tensed, before the events of the previous day came rushing back.

“It’s just us,” came Natasha’s voice from the other side.

Y/N hesitated before swinging her legs over the side of the bed and padding to the door. With a deep breath, she pressed the panel, and the door slid open to reveal Natasha and Wanda standing side by side.

“We brought you breakfast,” Wanda said, holding up a tray laden with food. Her eyes were soft, hopeful.

Y/N stepped aside, allowing them to enter. The room felt smaller with their presence, the air charged with unspoken tension.

Natasha set a small table by the window, and Wanda placed the tray down, arranging the dishes with meticulous care.

“We thought you might be hungry,” Wanda continued, glancing up at Y/N through her lashes.

Y/N’s stomach betrayed her with a low growl, but she crossed her arms, leaning against the wall. “Why are you doing this?”

Natasha leaned back in her chair, not letting her words get to her. “Everyone needs to eat.”

Wanda shot Natasha a look before turning her attention back to Y/N. “We want you to feel comfortable here. To know you’re not alone.”

Y/N’s gaze flickered between them, suspicion etched into her features. “I don’t need your pity.”

“It’s not pity,” Wanda said softly, taking a tentative step closer. “It’s… care.”

Natasha’s eyes gleamed with amusement. “And maybe a bit of stubbornness. We’re not the type to give up easily.”

Y/N’s resolve wavered under their combined attention. The sincerity in Wanda’s eyes, the unwavering confidence in Natasha’s posture, it was disarming.

“Fine,” she muttered, pushing off the wall and approaching the table. “But don’t expect me to spill my life story.”

Wanda’s face lit up with a small smile. “We wouldn’t dream of it.”

As they ate, the silence was less oppressive, the walls of Y/N’s self-imposed isolation showing the faintest cracks.
