Chapter 1

Waiting for him | 1/3

Remus was waiting in the great hall, his arms and back still sore from the full moon ;that previous night. He was cutting up his toast into four slices when two shadows appeared on the table in-front of him. Remus lifted his head

James Potter and Peter Pettigrew stood there “Where’s Pads at?” James spoke, his voice had a slight edge of frustration to it

Remus looked at James and Peter , his gaze flicking between the two. “I thought he was with you . Isn’t he on the map?” He questioned, his brow raised in confusion and slightly worry

Peter shook his head, speaking before James could open his mouth. “He took the map with him. We haven’t seen him since this morning. He didn’t even come with us to the hospital wing to see you.”

Remus let out a frustrated sigh as he finished buttering his toast; each slice with something different on it. “Do you reckon he went to hogsmead or something? Maybe he was going to hagrids and wanted to make sure filch didn’t catch him?” He suggested his own voice dripping with concern as he watched the other two take their seats

James let out a groan. “Sirius has to have had a good reason why. He hasn’t missed going to the hospital wing to see you since the prank!”The frustration was clear in his voice as he began piling bacon and eggs onto his plate. James took a quick break to eat some of his food before speaking .”he better be back for lessons or McGonagall will kill him!”He huffed

Peter was busy eating some hash browns to care about what the two were on about. James and Remus continued to talk, only looking up when dumbledore made the announcement that it was time for lessons. James and Peter Headed to Divination first while Remus went the opposite direction to ancient runes. Once Remus arrived he was greeted by the Professor, watching as other students got greeted , he began writing down ancient runes and other important parts of the lesson; though he wasn’t fully focused on it, his mind in other places; Sirius.

Remus wasn’t the only worried about Sirius, Peter was too; though for another reason. Sirius wasn’t in Divination which wouldn’t only damage his attendance and education but it’d also get noted by the teachers. James wasn’t much help this lesson since he was to busy thinking and fiddling with the sleeve of his robes. Peter let out an audible groan, his eyes narrowing at James. “James. You need to do your work or it’ll become homework which you already have enough of.” He said a slight edge of harshness to his tone.

James let out a huff, much similar to how a stag would to alert other members of a herd. He began writing down what Peter had but making sure to make some into his own sentences so the professor didn’t assume he had copied, or at least not completely.

By Lunchtime rumours have spread throughout the great hall of Sirius’ disappearance and not to the trio’s surprise they are questioned by students and some of the ghosts. They can’t tell anyone anything even if they wanted since they themselves aren’t sure where he went. Remus was anxiously tapping the table with his fingers, looking aimlessly around the great hall, hoping to spot Sirius but he didn’t spot him no matter how many times his eyes glazed over the crowd. Only drawing his attention away when James coerced him into eating something; the trio ate in silence which would be concerning to anyone else on the gryffindor table or the ones around them if they hadn’t known Sirius was essentially a missing person now.

James was getting up to leave, luckily for him and Remus they both had the last lesson free, Meanwhile Peter had to go to History of Magic. Remus and James set out for Gryffindor tower, they both took a look at the fat lady portrait and both sighed in sync almost as Remus spoke the password. “Pig Snout.” The fat lady’s portrait swung open with ease, allowing the two entry to the commonroom. Part of James hoped to see Sirius standing there waiting, that was quickly pushed away when he saw no one there, with a frown he turned to Remus who just patted him on the back taking a seat on the sofa.

Remus leaned back into the sofa watching as James sat opposite him, the sound of the fire crackling in the background was heard almost sounding like whispers. “Did he tell you anything when he took the map this morning?” He questioned quickly grabbing James’ attention from whatever had it originally. “No..he didn’t. He just took the map and left saying bye. He wouldn’t leave hogwarts..not without reason and he would have told us where he was going if he did.” James replied, a slightly more serious tone to his words, sending a small shiver down Remus’ spine.

Remus ran a hand through his hair, breathing shakily. “Do you reckon he’ll be back tonight and that he’s alright?” He questioned, his voice slightly cracking as he did. James reached out and slowly put his hand on Remus’ arm. “I’m not sure when he’ll be back but he won’t be gone for long. He can’t stay from you for long can he?” James said in a slightly joking tone but also gave Remus a stern but comforting look. Remus gulps and took a moment before he nods.

Peter had gotten all his work done that class since he wanted to try and get his kind of Sirius. Though it helped it only made him more confused, no he wasn’t worried. He was confused. Why had Sirius gone? Where was he? When would he be back? Why didn’t he say anything? All questions with no answers. Yet. Peter headed back to the commonroom since he assumed the others would be there and sure enough they were. “Any luck?” He asked even though he already knew the answer. James shook his head, waving Peter over. “We aren’t sure about anything Wormy. But he won’t have gone far would he?” James said, looking out the window behind Remus; the sky was starting to get darker, a more mundane feel and look to it, almost as if it was dead. It is dead,James thought, it is dead because Sirius isn’t here. James continues staring like that for a long time as Remus and Peter talk across him

Peter spent a good 5 minutes clicking his fingers in front of James’ face to gain his attention back again. James blinked a few times before turning to face Peter. “Hm?” He hummed, cocking a brow. “Me and Remus are heading to the dorm to talk more freely. Coming ..?” Peter asked, his eyes narrowed before going back to normal as James nodded. Remus patted James knee, getting up, James and Peter trod along after him, him reaching the top before the others due to his height and overall speed while walking. Peter plopped down on his bed as soon as he got inside, James following suit whilst Remus started at Sirius’ bed before wandering over to his own.

The room was a deep red with some golden accents around the walls. There was also some stone wherever the windows were. All the beds were the same except the changes each of the four put on them, photos, stickers, hangers, ect. Sirius’ bed was neat and untouched like it was this morning. He hadn’t been back, he hadn’t taken anything meaning he had to come back at some point. The three sat and talked until the late hours of the night. Peter rolled over to face the wall nearest to him, snoring as he fell asleep. James flat on his back splayed like a starfish , fallen asleep with his glasses still on like an idiot. Remus slept on his side, his arms and legs around one pillow whilst the other was under his head, soft creaks heard from each of the beds if they moved. They slept easily, it was odd not having their fourth with them.
