"...Fine. You wanna talk to me? Talk to your fucking boyfriend!" Pandora slammed the door to Lily, Mary and Marlene's room and stormed out of the Gryfindor common room. She couldn't believe Lily would do this!
When got to the hallway she didn't feel like going and sleeping in the Ravenclaw dorm, she wanted her friends. So she turned right and slipped down to the dungeons. When she got the Slytherin house she whispered the password and hurried past the common room to Reggie, Barty and Evan's room.
Tears were streaming down her face and she didn't feel real. She never anticipated this. Lily was the most wonderful girlfriend and Pandora had never thought she would do anything to lose her. Pandora used to belong in Lily's arms and she had never thought to see the day when Lily wouldn't want her anymore. But now she didn't and Pandora felt lost.
Lily's words replayed in her head. "I can't be gay Pandora. I know I told you that I would come out but I just can't. So that's why we have to break up. Don't you understand? I love you but I can't be with you."
The winner takes it all. James Potter. Pandora was heartbroken and James got Lily. But she would never love him. In the end both her and Lily had to lose in this game. Because Lily was already a Muggle born, like she said being gay as well would be too much for them.
Maybe she did love him. Maybe Lily and James could be happy and perfect and normal with their picket fences and wedding and children and James could give all the things Pandora couldn't. Because in the end Pandora could never give Lily normal. Because she wasn't a man. And she could never be that for Lily. She couldn't give Lily protection from the blood supermists or the homophobic Muggle world. And he was perfect and normal and straight and a pure blood and he could give Lily everything.
"Pandora? What's wrong?" Evan's arms encircled Pandora as sob after sob broke through her tears. Evan held her until she stopped crying but when he let go Pandora was reminded that Lily had let go of her forever that she would never be in Lily's arms again and she had to bury herself in his chest again. Finally she broke off to answer, eyes aching and red and throat raw from crying.
"I'll never be good enough."
"Dora! Don't say such a thing!" Barty said scandalised which made Pandora laugh a little.
"Why do you think that, Pandora? You know everyone thinks your wonderful." Regulus came behind her to sit next to her.
"Not everyone."
"Is someone bullying you?" Evan chimes in. "Cause I'll make sure they know better than to go after my sister." Evan stood up looking murderous and Barty joined him with murderous glee on his face at Evan's expression.
"No." Pandora grabbed Evan and pulled him back down." Ev sit down. I broke with my girlfriend."
"Oh, panda..." All three of them were gathered around her now and she was grateful for her friends, her makeshift odd little family.
"Don't ever think you aren't good enough. It's her loss." Regulus put his arm around Pandora and she leaned into his touch.
"I'm not better than James bloody Potter though, am I?"
Regulus squeaked. "What does this have to do with Ja- Potter?"
"That's who she replaced me with."
Pandora barely felt Regulus withdraw his arm as she fell forward onto Evan feeling utterly drained from all the emotions from today. She only noticed he was gone when she heard the click of the door.
"Where did he go?" She asked.
Barty and Evan shared a look and shrugged. "We don't know but you can sleep in my bed tonight, Dora. I'll bunk with Barty."
"Ev," Pandora laughed feeling more like her, "this bed hasn't been slept in for months you 'bunk' with Barty anyways."
Evan blushed mumbled denials under his breath as Barty laughed along with Pandora until Evan grumpily punched him. "It's true." Barty stage whispered to Pandora which made her laugh until her heart hurt and she forgot about her heartbreak for a minute
