Hallowe'en

23rd of October 1976

Regulus was nowhere to seen when Jade went down to breakfast that morning. It appeared James was also missing.

"Oi! Potter!" Remus Lupin was walking towards her, with Sirius and Peter close behind. Could she not go to her common room without being disturbed?
"What?!" She really couldn't be bothered with this idiot.
"Where is James?" He looked hungover.
"No clue," She knew he was somewhere with Regulus, a broom cupboard or an empty classroom.
"Oh, He said he was going to talk to you," So James had used her as an excuse.
“Maybe he's off bugging Evans!” Jade suggested.
"Lily is eating breakfast," Remus said.
"The map!" Peter burst out.
"What's the map?" Jade raised an eyebrow.
"None of your fucking business," Remus snapped.
"Language! You kiss your mother with that mouth Lupin?" Jade tutted.
"Play nice Moony," Sirius grinned.
"Not too nice though! Sirius called dib-" Peter said, but Sirius cut across him.
"Shut up Wormtail," Sirius kicked him and Peter smirked.
They all walked off, up the stairs and out of sight.

Jade had to meet Yaxley in the Entrance Hall in an hour and a half. She rushed to her dorm to fix her hair.
He was waiting for her. "Hello," He huffed. "What's up with you?" Jade asked, already regretting saying yes to this
"Thought you weren't coming," He perked up.
"Well here I am!" She kissed him lightly on the lips and took his hand. "Let's go!"
"Hey Jade!" Sirius was standing by the oak front door with his arm around Mary. They clearly made up.
"What's he want," Yaxley asked as they passed him.
"No clue," Jade was already getting bored.

Jade was freezing. "Want my coat?" Yaxley offered.
"Nope, I'm fine!" None of that bullshit, this wasn't one of Pandora's stupid romance novels.
"Let's go in here!" Yaxley stopped in front of Madam Puddifoot's. Merlin no. All people did in there was snog.
"How about the Hogs Head?" Jade suggested, it wasn't even remotely romantic in there. "Barty says you can get firewhisky in there,"

They were seated next to a grimy window. Turns out Barty was right, the battered looking barman gave them firewhisky without a second glance. Jade liked it, it tasted like hot pumpkin juice.
"I've been meaning to ask you something," Yaxley looked her in the eye.
Out of the corner of her eye, Mark Zabini enter with his friends. "Fuck sake," Jade muttered.
"What," Yaxley looked around.
"Oh I just need to use the bathroom," Jade sighed.
There was one small bathroom, for boys and girls. It was filthy, the walls were lined with graffiti. She inspected it. Euphemia Howard 1948 was carved into the door. "How ironic," Jade rolled her eyes, "Mother dearest, a vandal,"

Jade sat back down next to Yaxley. She felt an urge to annoy Mark. She could feel him practically staring a hole in the back of her head. She leaned towards Yaxley and kissed him. He kissed her back. He was a terrible kisser. His hand was on her hip. She didn't like that. They broke apart. "Let's go somewhere different." Jade whispered. Mark looked at Yaxley with disgust as they passed.

Next thing Jade knew, she was in an empty classroom snogging Yaxley.
"Want to be my girlfriend Jade?" Yaxley looked at her, this would piss off her mother and Mark at the same time.
"Definitely," Jade smiled.

Jade was lying on the ground by the fire reading Unfogging The Future when Pandora stormed through the portrait hole and flung herself onto the armchair by the fire.

"What's up with you?" Barty asked.
"Mum disapproves of Xenophilius!" She snapped. "She says he's to out spoken! What the fuck does that even mean!" she burried her head in her hands.
"It means his parents are blood traitors and Mother thinks he'll turn you into one of them," Evan said sympathetically. "If I told her about me and Barty I'd be murdered, literally."
"Just tell her you dumped him, how will she know?" Jade suggested.
"I suppose," Pandora snuffled. "But what if she finds out I lied?" There was fear in Pandora's eyes.
"If you like him that much you have to be willing to take that chance," Regulus sighed.
"Don't you have a study session with Black today Jade?" Dorcas cut in.
"Oh shit I do!" Jade sped up the stairs to get her bag.

She was out of breath from running. She was only fifteen minuets late, Sirius had often been later.
"I've been waiting here for ages!" Sirius whined when Jade sat down.
"Last week you were a good twenty five minuets late," Jade reminded him. "Got a cig?"
"I'm all out," Sirius stared at the ceiling. "Jade?"
"What?" Jade laid out all her Divination notes.
"Have you and Regulus ever talked about- you know, he-who-must-not-be-named?" Sirius was looking at her, he was worried about Reg.
"No," This was a lie. The Dark Lord was always a topic of conversation in the Slytherin common room, Snape and Mulciber were always blabbering on about him. "Heard your back with MacDonald,"
"I am. Heard your dating Corban Yaxley," Sirius smirked.
"Oh Merlin, I'll have a howler from Mum in the morning telling me I'm being immature and irresponsible." Jade groaned.
"Are you still coming to my party?" Sirius asked as he read the Divination notes.
"Maybe" Jade shrugged.

Two owls landed in front of Jade that morning at breakfast. One was a letter from Euphemia

Dear Jade
I hope you are well, you will be coming home for Christmas. No staying with friends as Christmas is a time for family. James has informed me that you are currently quite infatuated with Corban Yaxley. Don't bother complaining to me when he hurts you. I won't want to hear it and no, I'm not being rude I'm being honest.
Happy Halloween,
Mum.

Jade couldn't help but notice this letter was considerably colder than past ones. Mum hadn't given her the usual updates on her father and the house elf. It didn't matter. Such a silly thing to worry about.

The second letter was from her grandmother.

Dear Jade,
How are you darling? I'm quite well, as is your grandfather. We got invited to the Black Family Christmas Banquet, and we were told it's because of you!
I am writing to invite you over for Christmas, as Walpurga Black has suggested you come with us to the banquet.
No need to tell your parents or James, they don't understand us Slytherins do they?
Well I hope you will come, write a reply as quick as possible.
Lots of Love,
Granny xx

"Someone's popular," Yaxley sat down next to Jade.
"My mother doesn't approve of us," Jade sighed.
"Doesn't matter does it?" Yaxley put his arm around her.
"No, it makes me like you more," Jade grinned.
"Good," he lifted her chin and kissed her.
"Get a room," Regulus threw a piece of toast at them.
Jade rolled her eyes, "C'mon Reg, we'll miss Arithmancy,"
"No, don't leave me!" Yaxley grabbed her hand.
"When's your next free?" Jade asked.
"After lunch," Yaxley replied.
"I'll bunk off Charms," She kissed him and left with Regulus.

That morning was a dreary one, after Arithmancy they had Transfiguration and D.A.D.A. McGonagall called Jade back after class.
"Miss Potter, how are you and Mr. Black's study sessions going?" McGonagall looked rather stern.
"Oh well I suppose." Jade was relieved she wasn't in trouble.
"Well Mr. Black's mark's would suggest the same," McGonagall smiled, this was odd as Jade had never seen her smile. "As a reward for helping him I'm choosing to ignore that I saw you and Corban Yaxley in The Hogs Head drinking firewhisky," Her smile turned to a smirk, "Don't try to defend yourself, me and Professor Dumbledore saw the pair of you,"
"Sorry Professor, please don't tell my mum, I'll never hear the end of it," Jade hung her head.
"I won't but don't let it happen again," McGonagall opened the door, "You may leave,"

After lunch Jade and Corban- he told her she wasn't to call him Yaxley, because it sounded weird- went up to the Astronomy Tower.
Jade told him that they got caught, but they wouldn't be in trouble.
"Good, my Mother would actually kill me," He looked at her, "Does this mean you'll stop tutoring that idiot?"
"I think I've got to keep tutoring him until the year's over," Jade ran her hands through his blonde hair, "Your hair is really pretty,"
"Thank you. Us Yaxleys have amazing hair," He put his hand her cheek and kissed her.

October 31st 1976

Jade was sitting on her bed doing some homework, when someone knocked on the door. "Hello? Dora? Are you there?" It was Pandora's boyfriend, Xenophillius Lovegood.
Jade got up and opened the door, "How on Earth did you get in the common room?"
"Dora told me the password," He said. "Can I talk to her, I haven't heard from her since Thursday,"
"She isn't here, just me," She assumed Pandora had decided to listen to her mother, Jade was glad he was quite odd looking.

On her way to lunch she encountered Corban.
"Where were you? I've been looking for you!" He said.
"What's wrong?" He had something in his hand.
"Oh I found this in my dorm, and It's yours," He handed her a lipstick.
"This isn't mine," Jade sighed. "And if it's not mine then whose is it?"
"Uh- I um, don't know, It's got to be yours because no other girls have been in my dorm," Corban looked extremely suspicious.
"Are you cheating on me?" Jade was fuming. She was actually starting to like him.
"No of course I'm not! Why would you even think that?" He scratched his head.
"Your lying!" Jade snapped.
"I'm not! Merlin's beard Liana calm d- Jade I meant Jade!" He'd fucked up now, and he knew it.
"Liana? Who the fuck is Liana? It's been less than a week and you've already cheated on me? All you boys are the same!" She could've slapped him, but revenge would be better. "Don't talk to me again you asshole!" Why did Mum always have to be right!

She went to library, to find James. Instead she found Sirius. "Jade!"
"Piss off," She sniffed.
"What's wrong?" Sirius put his hand on her shoulder.
"Yaxley cheated on me," She sighed, she'd been reduced to confiding in Sirius Black. What had her life come to?
"What the fuck! I'll hex him into ash!" Sirius actually looked angry.
"Why? You hate me," Jade sighed.
"I don't hate you. I'm actually starting to like you," He smiled.
Sirius liked her? Not that Jade cared, she definitely didn't like him. "What's the story with your party?"
"Oh you're coming are you?" Sirius raised his eyebrows.
"I suppose," She had nothing better to do.
"Meet me here after dinner, need to go find James." Sirius winked and disappeared.
Did he just wink at her. Jade shook herself. It didn't matter, it's not like Jade liked Sirius.

Barty came running to her as soon as she entered the common room after lunch. She still couldn't find James. "I heard what happened, Yaxley's a dick," He put his hand on her shoulder, "If you don't mind, how did you find out?"
"He gave me a red lipstick, and then when I told him it wasn't mine he called me Liana!" Jade sighed, they'd only being going out for a week. It just annoyed her that mother was right. She suspected it was Liana Nott that Yaxley had cheated on her with. Sure enough Liana was talking to him, she kept glancing over at Jade and smirking. "Who does Yaxley hate? Like really hate?"
"Gryffindor quidditch players," Barty suggested.
"Well the only boys on the team are James, Sirius and Gordon Kettleburn. Obviously not James, and Kettleburn's a muggleborn. So all that's left is Sirius." But she couldn't date Sirius. He was Sirius.
"Merlin don't go out with him!" Barty smiled.
"I'll have to see if I can get him first," Jade winked
"Well then, I can help," Barty dragged her over to the fireplace and started planning. He seemed to be good at revenge.

Jade met Sirius outside the library after dinner as promised. She knew exactly what to do, she was good at making boys fall for her.

"Hello, don't you look lovely!" Sirius grinned.
"Thank you," Dorcas had given Jade an outfit to wear.

Jade had never been in the Gryffindor common room. It was much more cosy looking than the Slytherin common room. It was filled with happy birthday banners. "The others went nuts decorating, because it's my seventeenth," Sirius explained.
"Jade!" James jumped up out of an armchair. "Sirius told me he invited you!"
Mary, Marlene and Lily had been whispering since Jade and Sirius walked through the portrait hole. Mary got up and walked over, she looked Jade up and down and hugged Sirius, "Happy Birthday darling!"
Jade rolled her eyes. If she wanted her revenge Mary would have to go. She wouldn't be doing anything unless Mary and Sirius were over for good.

Jade was standing away from everyone else, regretting her decision to trust Barty. "Jade, over here!" Peter waved her over. Jade sat down next to James on a large sofa.
"I'm telling you Sirius, I'd be blown to pieces if I went to even one meeting! So if Dumbledore wanted anyone as a spy it'd have to be you," Mary turned to Jade, "Potter you're a soon-to-be Death Eater, would you kill a muggleborn if they showed up to a meeting,"
"Mary, drop it." James snarled.
"I'm not wrong! Sirius said the same thing," Mary grinned.
"I need to talk to you," Sirius stood up, "In private,"
Lily and Remus started whispering frantically. Jade talked to Peter about Care of Magical Creatures, but out of the corner of her eye Jade was watching Sirius and Mary argue by the portrait hole.

Remus put on some music and James brought out some firewhisky. Jade was leaning against the wall watching everyone when Sirius approached her.
"I broke up with Mary," He sighed.
"Oh no, why?" Jade never should have doubted Barty's plan.
"She's always complaining about you, and Regulus. I'm sick of it." Sirius was looking her up and down. Not in the same way as Mary, in a more flirtatious way. Was that possible?
Jade desperately wanted to start complaining about Mary but she had to remember what Barty said, "Don't insult anyone, unless he does it first,"
"That top," Sirius pawed at the sleeve, "It's nice," He leaned towards her.
"Thanks," Jade smiled innocently. "It's Cas's,"
"Sirius!" Some girls were calling him over. "I know it's killing you, go on flirt with them." Jade gave a small push.
"Nah, I only like one girl," Sirius moved even closer, Jade was basically pressed against the wall.
"Who?" Jade whispered.
"Isn't it obvious?" Sirius smirked.
"Evans?" Jade hoped he couldn't her heart thumping.
"Merlin," Sirius had a mischievous glint in his eye. "I should be the one tutoring you," He was twirling a lock of Jade's hair around his finger. Jade kissed him. Just a peck, but Sirius was hooked. Barty's was working, perfectly.
"I'm going to go find James," Jade left him standing there, dumbfounded with a little bit of Jade's lipstick on his perfect lips.
