The all nighter

“Lily Evans”

“Come on, Lily! Put away your books just for one moment!” Mary cries out from her bed.

I smile and answer: “And let you get more on the test tomorrow? Don’t think so.”

She makes a sour face and gets up out of bed. “Come on, let’s go outside, catch some sun!” She tries. “It’s October,” I remind her.

She falls on the ground on her knees and looks up at me. Her dark brown curls, covering a part of her gorgeous eyes. Her brown, full lips forming into a pout.

“Ugh,” I roll my eyes, “fine, where do you want to go?” I sigh. Her eyes jolt up, from the place she was staring at, and she grins sheepishly.

Mary pulls me with her and we pass by Marlene, who’s talking to a girl with really blonde, nearly white hair. Mary jerks her away from the girl and Marlene waves her goodbye.

“So, what are we doing?” Marlene asks after a while. “Lily had to catch some air, her nose was catching a book disease.”
Marlene lets out a laugh and my cheeks turn red.

On our way out, we pass by, James and Remus and my eyes catch Remus’, his eyes are filled with guilt and I look away.

He lashed out at me nearly two weeks ago. We started talking and I felt safe with him, but then one day we were in the library.

I kept asking him questions about a book he was reading that looked kinda nice. My hands found my favorite book that was in my bag and I handed it over to him.

“For you,” I smiled, he looked me in the eye, surprised. He thanked me and I started talking about what the book was about. When he didn’t answer a question I asked, I touched his shoulder and asked if he was listening.

“No, of course not. You’re being so annoying, like your stupid high voice is the only thing I hear, just stop talking!” He screamed at me, his cheeks red. My hand pulled away from his shoulder immediately.

Tears stinged in my eyes as I got up and left the library. Only when I got in my room did I let the tears fall down my cheeks. Mary comforted me, when she got back from dinner and saw me crying in my bed.

Now it’s been two weeks since I last talked to him. He tried to talk to me a few times, but I ignored him, till he eventually left.

Mary grabs my hand and pulls me inside a classroom, Marlene following close behind.

Severus and a few other kids walk pass. “Severus!” I shout, walking out the room. Me and Severus have known each other since we were 9.

Severus turns, his sharp eyes looking in mine, I feel a little anxious. “Hey, how are you doing?” I ask, stumbling over my words.

“Fine, now if you’ll excuse me, I have something to do,” he answers quickly, before turning around and leaving quickly.

Ouch.

Marlene walks in front of me and Mary her voice rings in my ear: “Let’s follow them! They’re up to something!” Marlene grabs Mary’s hand and Mary grabs my hand as we run after them.

I stumble into Mary when they stop all of a sudden. “He-“ Mary cuts me off, her hand covering my mouth, her finger on her mouth initiating for me to be quiet.

We look around the corner and Severus and his friends are standing behind a column. In front of us James, Sirius and Remus sat by the trunk of a tree, laughing with each other.

“Oh no,” Marlene whispers. Snape pulls out his wand and casts a spell at Remus. Remus gets flown back to the tree.

“Hey, what the hell!” He shouts, it’s like his clothes are stuck to the tree trunk. James and Sirius get up immediately and scan their surroundings.

Sirius gets sight of Severus first and casts a spell, he flies all the way back against the wall and he lets out a groan, I hear a crack and I think his wrist is broken.

His other two friends hurry off to carry him away and flee. Sirius let’s out a laugh and shouts some curse words behind them.

James is already trying to get Remus loose, it isn’t working and Sirius doesn’t know what to do either. I sigh deeply and walk from behind the corner.

Remus is the first to see me and he looks away directly when we have eye contact. My hand flicks a simple spell, with my wand, and he falls to the ground.

I turn around my ashes and march back off. “Lily!” Remus calls after me. A deep sigh leaves my mouth as I turn around. Remus looks hurt and I scoff.

He shouldn’t be hurt, Í should!

“Lily, please, I was having a bad day! I didn’t mean to hurt you, and I shouldn’t have lashed out on you, but I did and I’m sorry!”

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to and I miss you! I-I,” he looks down and I can see a tear drop from his cheek. My heart sinks and I stare at him, I really saw him as a good friend.

“Please, I’ve never felt so, so safe with a person before. You make me feel loved.” My lips part a bit and I bite back my tears.

No, he won’t get away with that so easy!

I hold my head high and I leave, but a sob breaks out from Remus and I stop dead in my tracks.

I turn my head sideways and Remus has his hands in his face and he looks so small, even though he’s so big.

My head tells me to leave, but my heart and soul tell me to run over to him right now and comfort him.

My heart wins, I walk over to him and lie my hand on his shoulder awkwardly. He looks up surpirsed. I try to give him a smile, but it feels awkward.

He fixes his posture and wipes the tears out of his eyes: “Sorry, Is shouldn’t be crying.” “No, you can, if that’s your way of expressing yourself no need to feel ashamed!” I tell him strictly.

This time my smile feels much more comfortable and he puts his arms around me as he pulls me in for a hug. I gladly let myself be led in the hug, already content that we made up.

“Lily, why didn’t you tell me your book was so sad!” Remus cries out, walking over for breakfast.

I chuckle: “I never told you it was a happy book.” He gives me a look. “Sirius cried when bet died,” he pauses, “I did too.”

“Sirius? Sirius réad a book? Willingly?!”
“Yeah, I told him he should read it and he did,” Remus says, as if it’s not a big deal.

A grin spreads across my face. “What?” Remus asks. “Nothing,” I mutter.

Sirius is so in love with Remus. It’s so obvious.

He looks for permission in Remus’ eyes almost for everyhting he does.

He read a book, wíllingly, for Remus.

He always hangs around him and tries to make him laugh and when he does his eyes light up.

He turns bright red, when Remus catches him staring.

I snicker and Remus gives me another glance, before starting a conversation with Mary and Marlene.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My eyes glance over my notes one more time, before I put them away. Together with Mary and Marlene I walk to my next lesson: potions.
We have a test today and I studied well. Mary walks in with a huge smile on her face, even though she didn’t even study as much as me. I roll my eyes in annoyance.
Professor Slughorn deals out the papers and I start on the potion immediately. Putting the right ingredients in, because I studied them each, carefully.
My eyes go over to other students and then rest on Mary, she’s throwing stuff in her potion and checking it. Thinking for a few moments and taking a next ingredient.
I sigh and go back to work on my potion. On the other side of the room, James is working on his potion in complete concentration, I didn’t know he had it in him and Sirius is just tossing stuff in lazily, typical.
Mary’s and my hand fly up at the same time and I stare her deep in the eye. She looks nack confidantly and grins.
Slughorn checks our potions and compliments us both and I groan in frustration. When he gives me a better grade than Mary I almost do a little dance.
James got the same grade as me and I sigh (again, I know I sigh a lot, I could start rolling my eyes more?) So I roll my eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“So that’s why I think I should’ve gotten a better grade!” Mary ends her complaint. “Mary, just admit it, my potion was beteer than yours,” I tell her. She looks me dead in the eye and walks over to Remus, throwing her hair in my face, who is walking with Peter.

I smile softly and Marlene bumps into me and rises an eyebrow. “What? Don’t look at me like that!” I order. She shrugs and we continue walking to our dorm.

Marlene jumps on my bed when we get there and she starts rambling on about this Dorcas girl. “She’s such a good friend, you should really meet her! OMG!” She screams. “We should do a girl night!!”

She squeals as she jumps of the bed and pulls me with her to go ask people.
We end up just asking , Mary and Dorcas.

We set ourselves in the common room, we got Remus to bring the boys to their rooms, so we’re alone. Mary brings cookies out of nowhere and she just puts her finger against her lips.

Dorcas takes out some drinks and Marlene got candy. I make it cosy putting on the fire, with a simple spell and some blankets.

We talk about everything: if we like any boys (this is not the case, but Marlene says she doesn’t minde Sirius’ flirting), I tell her it probably doesn’t mean anything and that he’s just… uh charming?

They ask me if I like Remus and I laugh at the thought of it. “Gods no! He’s just a really good friend!” Then we talk about people we think should be together, and nobody says Sirius and Remus, so maybe Sirius doesn’t like Remus and it’s just my imagination.

After that we gossip, a lot. Like a ton of gossip is spread between us and it’s amazing.

Marlene spills her drink on Dorcas and they go clean it up. “Okay, but like, Dorcas and Marlene! That would be an amazing couple!” Mary whisper-shouts in my ear. I nod, a grin from ear to ear.

We stay awake way past curfew, but we don’t care.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I care. I care that we stayed up till way past curfew. Sitting at the table for breakfast I feel my eyes slipping shut multiple times.
Remus wakes me up multiple times.
My head falls on the table multiple times.
Food sticks to my head multiple times.
James and Sirius snicker at us multiple times.
Mary and Marlene have bags under their eyes and I’m sure I have them too, we slept like an hour.
I have a headache and I want to go to bed. But I have an important test today so I don’t want to miss it. Tomorrow is Saturday though so I can sleep in for once.
Let’s just say the test didn’t go so well, I kept falling asleep, I think I’ll still get pretty much, but still.
Mary looks pleased with herself and I’m sure James has more than me, maybe Sirius even has more than me!
The rest of the day goes by in a blur and I fall asleep during astronomy. We had to lie down and look at the stars! Of course I’m going to fall alseep!
Marlene did too, so I’m not the only one. The only lesson I managed to pay attention to was transfiguration, but I don’t know if it’s because of the subject or the professor.
After that I go for dinner, trying to pay attention to what Dumbledore has to say.
“For the third years, next week you will be able to start going to Hogsmede!” Which causes an explosion of bounding third years.
“Enjoy your evening!” He calls out and sits back down.
