i never heard silence quite so loud
HARRY POTTER looked over the first years waiting to be sorted. It was his third year as the defence against the dark arts teacher, and it was his son’s, James Sirius Potter, first year at at Hogwarts. Crazy to think how his son was already eleven years old. And that Albus was nine and Lily was seven.
“Averies, Janis!” Professor McGonagall called out. How she survived this long and still hadn’t aged a day? Harry would never know.
A few seconds after the hat touched the child’s head it yelled out, “BETTER BE… SLYTHERIN!” Harry sighed, the hat was still as dramatic as it was when he was young.
“Bivor, Oliver!”
3 minutes later the hat yelled, “BETTER BE… HUFFLEPUFF!”
As more and more children got sorted, only a few were sorted into Gryffindor. 2 male, 3 female.
“Grace, Jason!”
A boy with a small scar on his lip walked up to the stool and sat on it. McGonagall lifted the hat onto the boy’s head and they waited. And waited. And waited. And waited…
JASON GRACE sat under the hat in silence.
“…hmm very brave yes, but also ambitious, oh yes very smart, loyal to a fault I see.”
“Yes,” he whispered, “I’m loyal to Rome.”
“Rome you say? Oh it’s been a while since a little hero has also been a wizard… may I ask who are you the child of?”
“Jupiter,” he said quietly, so none of the mortals would hear.
“I see, I thought Jupiter was supposed to swear off children? Or was that Ze… never mind that.”
Jason was confused at that but let it slide.
“Ah, I clearly remember the last time a demi-god came to this school.”
“Who was it?”
“Oh! A very brave soldier by the name of…”
Jason listened to the story, adding bits of amazement and laughter, when the hat told a joke, whenever he could.
“In fact, Godric Gryffindor was a son of Z- Jupiter, I might as well sort you into his house then! Thank you for our chat, Jason Grace.”
“Your welcome Mr. Hat sir!”
“BETTER BE… GRYFFINDOR!”
Jason skipped over to the Gryffindor table which erupted in applause.
Jason sat down and asked a fifth year student, well he assumed they were from their prefect badge, “Hey, why is everyone staring at me?”
“Dude,” the fifth year student said, “you got a hat stall.”
“So? Isn’t that kinda common?” He questioned, he had heard they were becoming quite common.
“It was 57 minutes long!” The fifth year student exclaimed.
“Oh,” Jason said, “I’m surprised it wasn’t longer.” When the hat was talking it had felt like an eternity.
“What!?”
Jason shrugged his shoulders, smirking.
HARRY started in shock. This boy, Jason Grace, nearly got an hour hat stall! The longest before that had been half an hour!
Harry was extremely excited to teach this boy.
JASON followed the fifth year prefect students up to the dorms.
“Okay! The password is… sillybilly69?” The female prefect groaned, “Why did they let Professor Weasley become head of Gryffindor house, Professor Potter was a much better choice…” she grumbled to herself.
“Okay!” She said, “Until we fix this the password is sillybilly69!”
She grumbled off somewhere to complain and the male prefect let Jason and the rest of the first years.
Jason was led to his dorm, it was spacious, it had 8 beds though with the looks of it only half of them were going to be filled.
Jason and his 3 other dorm mates began conversation.
“Hi! I’m James Sirius Potter! Yeah, I’m Harry Potter’s eldest child!” The dark haired, green eyed one with glasses said.
“I’m Louis Weasley, me and James are cousins!” The red headed one with the blue eyes provided. Jason thought the red head looked… pretty.
“I’m Óisin Finnigan! My twin sister Aoife Finnigan is in Gryffindor as well!” The brown haired, brown eyed one announced.*
They all stared at Jason, “oh me? I’m Jason Grace, I’m a muggle born.”
“Oh! You know that is really cool too! My grandmother Lily, yeah my sister Lily was named after her, was a muggle born!” James shouted.
Louis added something as well, “Yep! I agree! My aunt Hermione! She’s a muggle born.”
They all looked at Óisin, “Hm, I don’t have anything to add, I’m just a regular half blood,” he shrugged.
They all nodded and then Louis asked a question, “What do you all do for fun?”
Óisin answered first, “I like to explore this creek near the forest in Athenry, that’s where I live by the way.”
“Not where you’re from?” Louis questioned.
“Nope,” he said, popping the ‘p’, “I’m from Cork City actually, me dad, Seamus Finnigan, moved to Athenry when I was six.”**
Jason perked, “Where’s that? Sorry I’m American and I haven’t been to school either.”
“You haven’t been to school?” James asked.
“I was home schooled?” He shrugged.
James obviously didn’t know what home school was so he just left it alone.
“It’s alright, it’s in Galway!” Óisin said, his eye twitching like he wanted to punch Jason in the face.***
“And where is that?” Jason looked and was clueless.
“Ireland?” Óisin was bewildered.
“And where is that?” Jason smirked.
Óisin waved a hand, “oh! You little shite! You’re just messing with me now!”
Jason chuckled, “yeah I am.
They all laughed.
James spoke, “You know, I’m not expert in divination, but I think we are all going to be great friends.”
Everybody smiled and they all talked about what they like to do for fun for a bit until realising the time and all of them decided to go to sleep
JASON woke up on his first day of classes, over the past few days he had grown closer to his dorm mates and had begun to consider them friends.
“Morning Jason!” James exclaimed, “we’ve got to go to breakfast now! Louis and Óisin are already down there! I told them I’d wait for you!
“Okay! Coming!” Jason yelled.
Jason got dressed, brushed his teeth and hair a bit before heading down with James.
While they made their way to the Great Hall Jason admired the intricate design of the walls, each wall seemed to have its own slightly unique design. Jason couldn’t help but admire Hogwarts’ beauty. As in a… well certainly not a crush, Jason didn’t have feeling for girls yet.****
“Hogwarts is really pretty, don’t you think?” Jason asked James.
James thought for a moment, “yeah I guess it is, I mean it’s not exactly the word I’d use to describe-“
“She,” Jason interrupted.
“She?” James queried.
“Hogwarts is she.” Jason stated.
“How’d you know that?” James asked.
Jason shrugged his shoulders, “I don’t know.”
