Solar Eclipse

Regulus and James have been sharing early morning flights and late night talks for a month now and the both of them feel at the peak of happiness. Why? They most be platonic soulmates or something. Maybe James is the platonic soulmate of every Black out there. Wait, no, he doesn’t want that. The rest of the Blacks are cruel. 

“James” Regulus snapped his fingers in front of James’ face. 

“Sorry”

“Where did you go?”

“Inside my head”

“As always” Regulus said jokingly 

“Hey you are an over thinker too!” Said James while slightly pushing Regulus with his own body. 

“You’ve been eating properly lately. I’m proud of you James.”

“Do I get a reward for that Reg?” James said teasingly.

“Mmm I’ll think about it.” That gave James hope “So Christmas break is coming, are you going to be okay by yourself?”

“Yeah, sure. Yeah. Don’t worry about me”

“I always do.”

The intensity of Regulus gaze upon James made him shiver.

“Reg, I don’t want to be a lot, everyone always says I’m a lot to handle and too intense, but I need you to know that this last month has been one of the best in my whole life.”

“Even with your friends still being dumb insensitive idiots?” James let out a chuckle. 

“Yeah Reg, even with that. I’m starting to think you are all I need.” James couldn’t quite place the look in Regulus’ face. Did he just mess this whole thing up? “Sorry. I know its a lot. As I just said, I am a lot. I just…I’m scared of loosing you and-” James looked away. He always did when he was avoiding his feelings. 

“Hey! Hey, James, look at me.” James obliged. They had this dynamic by now. James just did whatever Regulus asked him to do. “You are not a lot, not to me. You are not too much. In fact I sometimes feel like I want more.” Regulus hush as soon as he realised what he said. Why did he say that?

And now it was James turn to look at Regulus with an intensity that made Regulus shiver. 

“What do you want Reg?”

“I- I” The eloquent Regulus Black reduce to babbling “I just meant, you don’t have to be scared. I would never leave you. They only way you’ll get ride of me is if you ever want to leave me.”

“Never. I want to be with you forever Regulus.” James put their forehead together. “Promise me we will be together forever.”

Regulus closed his eyes. 

“I promise”

“I FUCKING HATE YOU SIRIUS”

“Oh shit Remus” Regulus warned

“Let’s go!”

James held Regulus hand and they ran away. Again.

The room appeared for them and they hid in there. They were laughing and laughing, so they didn’t notice what the room gave them. There was a bed in the middle of the room and there was a chimney that was setting a very intimate mood. When Regulus notice he stopped laughing immediately. 

“Wha-What did you asked the room for?” Regulus asked and when James looked around he stopped laughing. Shit why did it looked like that? James panicked. 

“Sleep! I- the boys, as you can notice, are still fighting, so I don’t want to go back.” It wasn’t a lie. James didn’t want to go back, he hasn’t been comfortable there for a while, but he wasn’t thinking about that. He was thinking about spending more time with Regulus. 

“You are going to sleep here?”

“Yep.” James started walking around and playing with the stuff around the room. He was nervous to ask what he wanted to ask. “Do you want to stay with me?” Okay it was out there, no going back. James was ready for a firm no but…

“Sure. What do you want to do?”

Snuggle 

“Talk. It’d be like what we always do at the astronomy tower and we don’t even have to worry about going back to our rooms or how late it is, because we could spend the night here.”

There was just one bed, but no boy seemed bothered about it. 

“Like the astronomy tower but without the stargazing and the cold. Pity I love stargazing and the cold  breeze.”

“I’m good. I can still stargaze. My favourite star is here with me.” That made Regulus smile and blush. But for the first time ever he didn’t care that James could see him. 

“I thought that was my brother.”

“Nah. I think its accurate that your star is the Lions heart, because you are the most special person I hold in my heart.” Regulus walked towards James and grabbed his hand.

“Here James” Regulus kissed his cheek. “A reward for eating.” Then he led James to the bed. “Can we lay down? I’m tired”

James was over the moon. What just happened? Did Regulus just kissed him? Well his cheek.

Would he get a reward every time he does something right? Can the rewards get better? He wants an upgrade. 

James followed Regulus like a lost puppy. “Yes. We should lay down.” He said a little lost. “Wait Reg. Am I going to get a reward every time I do as I’m told?” 

“You want more rewards?”

“Yes.” Again way to fast. 

“Then be a good boy for me James.” James’ mouth went dry as Regulus grabbed his tie and pulled him closer. “Eat all your meal” closer “let yourself feel those emotions” closer “come flying with me so you’ll get distracted and keep exercising” closer “you’ll have to know your worth.” Intense eye contact. James’ eyes drifted to Regulus’ lips. But when James eyes went back to Regulus’ eyes he notice how Regulus’ eyes drifted to his own lips. But then the Slytherin pull away way to soon. No don’t go. “Can you do that for me?”

“Yes. Anything for you Reggie.”

“And for yourself.” Right 

“Yes for myself.” James couldn’t take his eyes off Regulus. 

“Alright time to lay down, talk and sleep.”

“Yes yes” 

James started undressing. What a fit lad. Wait. JAMES POTTER WAS STRIPPING DOWN. 

“Wait, James! What the fuck are you doing?” Regulus could hear the panic in his own voice. 

“Getting ready for bed” James said as if undressing in front of Regulus was part of his daily routine. 

“You do that by undressing?” Regulus knew he was a bit more agitated than what the situation called for but…he can’t see James like that. 

“Well yeah. I didn’t bring my PJs so I’m sleeping in my pants”

Regulus swallowed hard. “Just your pants?”

“Do you mind?” 

“Nop. No. Nopidy. No. It’s cool mate.”

“Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.” Very James 

“So I’ll sleep in my pants as well.”

“Coooool”

Weird awkward moment. Regulus was looking at James. Ogling him, if you will.

“Go on then.”

“Oh sorry James, I didn’t realised you were in a hurry to see me half naked.”

“I’m not! I- I am sorry. You know what I’ll turn around so you can have some privacy.” So James did. Regulus got half naked and under the covers in less than a minute. 

“I’m good now. Turn around.”

“Buuuu. If I’m a good boy could I get a show someday?”

“Shut up James” Regulus threw him a pillow. “Stop teasing me or you wont get anything again.”

“Okay. I’m sorry, I am sorry. I’ll behave” James got under the covers too. 

“Sooo, don’t make a big deal out of this but my birthday is coming up”

“Right! Winter hols. December 23, right?”

“Right. So I could sneak you into my house. I know Sirius does sometimes. And I’d like you to meet my friends, because they’ll probably be there too.”

James was happy Reg wanted to introduce him to his friends, but he was kinda bummed it wouldn’t just be him and Regulus.

“I’d love to.” 

They talk and laugh until they fell asleep. James hadn’t have such peaceful sleep since the tower incident and he woke up feeling rested and happy for the first time in forever. 

“Hey James. I’m going to go take a shower before breakfast. But thank you for everything.” James was still too sleep to replay but he did hear Regulus, and he also felt how he lean down to kiss James’ forehead.

James was shining like the sun, in full capacity, and that took everyone by surprise because nobody thought the sun could shine at full capacity without his friend. 

“Hey everyone. Good morning!” James greeted the Gryffindor table. 

“Hey James” Peter said with a shy smile. 

“Hi big bro. You look better. Are this arseholes done pestering the whole tower?” Said Marlene 

“What? I haven’t been doing such thing! It’s Sirius!”

“It’s YOU Remus! The both of you! Can’t you see we are all suffering because of your stupid fight! Sirius you hurt Remus some way somehow, so talk it out and fix it. And you Remus! You have been a real arse with BOTH Sirius and James, and you broke James and you made me break him because you are my best friend Remus and I wanted to be there for you when you needed me but you hurt James and for what? You made me hurt my very best friend!” Wow, seems like Peter was really holding back and that was a long time coming. “James I’m so sorry mate. I love you and I don’t want to be part of this anymore. Remus, I know what you are going through, just tell him and stop being mean to James, he has nothing to do with it!” 

James smile got even brighter and he could already feel tears running down his face. 

“Pete! Of course I forgive you. I love you too mate” James and Peter hugged. The sun and the earth aligned again. 

“Lads?” Marlene ask hoping that Remus and Sirius would take the high route.

Remus got up and left the Great hall but on his way out he was hexed.

“Sirius!” Marlene protested

“It wasn’t me! I don’t even have my wand on me!” Another hex hit Sirius. “It’s Remus!”

“He got hexed too! It doesn’t make any sense.”

It wasn’t them. It was a noisy Slytherin that wouldn’t stand those two mistreating his James. James only noticed it was Regulus at the end of the meal. He went looking for him to thank him for… well everything.

“Hey Regulus” James hug him from behind 

“What” said Dorcas

“The” Evan followed

“Fuck” of course Barty got the fun part of the sentence “He doesn’t even like to be touch by us!

“I think its cute Regulus has find a friend as great and kind as James.” It was Pandoras turn to talk 

“I had a great time last night. I just wanted to thank you for that” James continue 

“Okay Jamie. You can stay with me tonight if you want.” Regulus said 

“Really?” James couldn’t even hide his excitement 

“Really. I think you didn’t have lots of nightmares last night. I was trying to guard your sleep.”

“I didn’t have any at all. I slept like a baby. Thanks for guarding my sleep Reggie. I’ll see you tonight.” James lean down and gave Regulus a kiss in the cheek. “By guys. Nice seeing you all.”

“Bye James” Dorcas was trying to keep herself calm 

“Potter” that was Evan 

“Have a lovely day” Pandora being nice as always

“SINCE WHEN ARE YOU DATING RAY OF SUNSHINE!?”

“Shhhh Barty! Lower your voice! I’m not dating him.”

“Then what was that? You let him touch you and kiss you and everything! You hate all that kind of stuff!?” Barty was still talking a bit loud 

“Well he is my friend, he’s allowed too.”

“We are your friends and you don’t let us do that” Evan was right, but Regulus was not ready to admit it.

“Shut up. Whatever.”

“Since when are you friends with the enemy?”

“Get over yourself Cas. He is not the enemy and he is actually quite lovely.” Regulus was ready to defend James against anyone. 

“Oh my god you do like him! You have a crush!” What? Wait!

“We are just friends!”

“Stop with the nonsense you three!” Pandora interrupted. “Regulus take a stroll with me”

Regulus thank Pandora for the intervention and walk with her 

“Just so you know I approve of him. I always wanted the best for you and he is the best”

“Not you too.”

“I can see it in the way you look at each other. It’s okay to admit it.”

“I- wait, did you say each other? As in him too?”

“Well of corse.” Pandora confirm with her angelic voice.  

A furious blush was covering Regulus face. 

“You think he likes me?” Regulus doesn’t want to admit it even to himself, but the possibility of James liking him felt like heaven on earth 

“Yes. Like a lot. I haven’t seen him look at anyone like that.”

“Not even the redhead girl.”

“The mean one? Nop. It’s very different. With you it’s genuine. It comes from his soul and he can’t control it. Even if he wanted to.”

Regulus was now smiling like a mad man.

“So you like him”

“Well he is my friend…”

“Regulus.”

“And he is incredibly handsome but…”

“Come to me when you are ready to admit it.”

And just like that Pandora hopped away from him.

James has never been this excited for a day to end. He is watching the sun set and even tho he wants to skip dinner he won’t because he wants to ask for a reward. 

Regulus happens to be excited too. If only they knew they are staring at the sun at the same time, just from different points of the castle. 

Regulus felt nostalgic. He didn’t want to let the sun go just yet, but he knew he had to in order to see the personification of it. On the other hand James was happy to let the sun go. He was addicted to watching the stars. It was his favourite thing to do now. He loved just watching his star, that’s why he liked the nights better than the day time. 

“Prongs, where are you going? I thought we were okay now.” Peter sounded worried but James wasn’t even paying attention. He was way to excited thinking about Regulus. “James? Are we not okay?”

“What? Yes Pete, of course we are. Sorry, I’m in a bit a hurry.”

“Wait. You are not sleeping here tonight?”

“Nop. Going to a friend’s dorm”

“Wow. Took you no time to replace us.”

“What? No! I could never replace you! We are the marauders! And thanks to you we are one step closer to getting back to where we were before all this.” James hugged Peter. “I just have another friend and his really been there for me during this time, which was the worst time o my life to be honest.”

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there.” Peter sounded very sad and regretful. 

“Don’t be! I wouldn’t have him! And I’ve never been happier. His amazing.”

“Merlin’s beard you are in love with this friend of yours!”

“What? No! I can’t be.” James started panicking and hyperventilating.

“Hey James, what’s wrong?”

“I’ll ruin it!! He is such a great friend, he is perfect! I can’t be intense with him! I- I don’t want to ruin it! 

“Hey, hey calm down. Who is this friend?”

James was nervous to admit it was Regulus. Just because he didn’t want anyone involved. 

“It’s… Regulus.”

“YOU FELL FOR SIRIUS LITTLE BROTHER?”

“Shhhhhhh. Pete what the fuck. Do you want the whole school to know?” James was covering Peter mouth “Please don’t tell anyone”

“I won’t, but mate, that lad is scary” 

“He is not. He is the sweetest boy I know.”

“Are we talking about the same person?”

“Yes! You just have to get to know him. Oh Pete I know you’ll love him! And tonight I have to hang out with his friends and I really want them to like me! How do I get them to like me?”

“Everybody likes you James. Don’t worry.”

“Thanks mate.”

“Oh and don’t forget to use protection!” “Oh not the bird mate!”

James was too nervous to go in. He was walking in circles avoiding knocking. 

“Hey James” James gave a little jump out of fright.

“Oh hey Pandora”

“What’s going on here?” Pandora stepped closer and took a good sniff out of James. “You smell very good and you look very handsome.”

“Thanks Pandora. Regulus invited me to sleep over”

“Uuuu nice. Good luck James. I really like you being this close to my best friend.”

“Oh well thanks Pandora, that means the world to me!” It does mean the world to James

“You can call me Panda” Pandora smiled at him. 

“Thank you Panda” James heart felt warm

She went away hoping 

James knocked the door, but there was a surprise behind it. Barty Crouch Jr. 

“Potter! Welcome! We were waiting for you” Barty took his arm and pull him into the room. “Reg is showering, but don’t worry, we will make you company.” He sat James’s between Evan and himself. 

“Thank you?” James was still really nervous

“Sure thing James. Can I call you James?”

“Of course you can Rosier”

“Evan is good then”

“Evan”

“Hey! No touching my Rose”

“What?”

“Nothing. So tell us what are your intentions with our Reg?”

“How long have this been going on?”

“Do you intend to give him a ring”

“Are kids part of the picture”

Before James could keep panicking Regulus came out of the shower with PJ bottoms and a wet naked torso. He was drying his hair with a towel. James wants to take a picture and frame it. Has Regulus always been this hot?

“Stop tormenting the poor lad”

“Fuck, Regulus you look hot.” Regulus turned red and James did too. But Regulus redness was because of shame and James’ was because of anger. He was jealous. “I want to eat you alive” Evan punch Barty in the abdomen and Regulus gave Jr a dead glare. James found happiness in the sound of Barty losing earth. 

“Sorry James, Barty here likes the attention. I was thinking, since you are part of he group now we could sometime play a friendly quidditch match.” Evan eased the tension 

“Sure I’d love that.” He actually really likes the idea 

“So me and Reg against you and Rosie.” James and Barty teaming up?

“It’s settle.” Evan declared.

“James come to bed” the way James followed the command you’d think he was a dog and Regulus was his master. Some funny feeling went through his whole body. 

“Reg, aren’t you going to give me a good night kiss? You know for all times sake. Thank your kissing teacher with a kiss” Regulus threw a pillow towards Barty and Evan pull Jr to the bathroom.

James got into bed with Regulus 

“Hey” James couldn’t help but smile

“Hi” And that smile was contagious 

“So are you and Barty…” James couldn’t even say it. That would break his heart forever.

“What?

“You know together” you could hear the sadness in James voice 

“No! Not at all. He is just being annoying.” Regulus was quick to clarify this. 

“But you did kiss him.”

“That was a long time ago. He was my first kiss and then we kiss all that year to practice and get better at it.”

Turns out James was a very possessive and jealous person. He felt like killing bart. Why did the Slytherin got to kiss Regulus so many times? And he was Regs first kiss! No fair! Regulus shouldn’t be with Barty, he deserves everything in the world. 

“Oh cool cool cool cool cool.”

“What’s wrong James?” Was James that easy to read? Shit

“Nothing. Ignore me.”

“I can’t. Whenever you are around you have all my attention.” James likes this better. Having all of Regulus to himself.

“Did you see that I ate all my dinner?”

“Yes. Do you want a reward Jamie?” Did Regulus just called him Jamie? Consider this the best day of James life.

“Yes.” Yesyesyes James was dying to get another reward from Regulus 

“What is it that you want”

Anything. Everything. Whatever Reg was willing to give him 

“Many things”

“Name them and I’ll see how I can help you”

“I want you to call me Jamie again”

“Jamie” JamieJamieJamie

“I also want a kiss, like the first reward” Regulus did give him another kiss. James was addicted to Regulus kisses. He wanted more. He wanted every kiss Regulus was every going to give.

“What else?” James felt brave

“I want to snuggle tonight.” Regulus got closer to snuggle.

“Something else.”

“I don’t want Barty kissing you” Never ever again.

“He is dating Evan.” Regulus said dismissing the whole situation. But James was really surprise. Barty and Evan are dating? 

“Wait what?”

“Focus on me Jamie.” James immediately did. It’s as if Regulus’ voice hypnotised him. 

“You are so pretty.”

“Am I?”

“So so pretty”

“You are too”

“Oh but you are beautiful”

“Just shag already!” Fucking Barty Crouch Jr. 

“I’m going to kill you! And you two are not allowed to shag while James is here.”

“What? No fair! We will be quiet and I’ll put a silence spell.” Evan really sound annoyed 

“But you know how loud I get for you Rosie.”

“Gross.” And with that Regulus put a silence spell. “Let’s sleep baby”

“Okay Reggie” Did James just call him Reggie
