Solar Eclipse

When James Potter turn fifteen he started taking an interest in people, but not in a friendly way. More like in a romantic way. He started fancying people. Boys and girls, he could see how attractive they were. But he took a particular interest in one Lily Evans. 

She was in his year, and he notice how pretty and smart she was, he really liked her. They were not best friends but they are good friends, she was in the same year as James and in the same friend group. She was eve close friends of his own best friend Marlene. So James really thought it was a good idea to go after her, but he was no expert in wooing a lady, so he had to ask the wisest lady he knew. 

“Mom could I talk to you for a second” 

“Sure sweetheart. Tell me what’s on your mind”

“So there’s this girls I fancy”

“Oh how exciting Jamie! I’m so happy for you. Should I get us some tea so yo can tell me everything about her?”

So he did. He told his mom everything about Lily and how he fell for her over tea.

“She sounds lovely.”

“She’s is, and I really appreciate her as a friend but maybe we could be more. And that’s why I wanted your advice. How did dad woo you?”

“Well he was charming. He brought me flowers every day for a week, he gave me chocolates and sweets and he sang me songs with his guitar. I loved big gestures too. Those always work.”

“You recon she’d like flowers?”

“Of course Jamie! Try that and let me know how it goes.”

James was going to Hogwarts the day after that one, and he wanted to consult his mother about the whole thing before heading back, so he went to his parents room, but before he could knock he heard his mother crying—

“I love him, I do Fleamont, but sometime I wonder what I’d be like to have a girl, I really wanted more kids back then.”

“I know Effie, but when you gave birth to James I was so scared, I didn’t want to lose you. Its risky to have another kid after what happened with James.”

He heard his mother sobbing, and he notice he had tears running down his face. He ran to his room and locked himself there. 

His parents wanted more children and they couldn’t have more all because of him. He felt his heart break. Why did he have to be such a risky baby or whatever. And to learn that he almost killed his mom. He couldn’t even be with himself right now. There was a feeling in his chest he couldn’t quite place, but he hated it. He couldn’t breathe and he couldn’t sleep all night. 

Shame James Potter didn’t hear the rest of the conversation.

“But I wouldn’t change James for the world. He is the perfect kid. He is getting so old and I don’t want him gone Monty. Our little baby is a man now. I want to keep him forever.” Euphemia kept crying, but she was crying because she missed James already and he wasn’t even gone yet.

“He is the perfect boy. My greatest pride. And he is very handsome now.”

“Just like you love, just like you.”

When James got back to Hogwarts he really paid attention to what Lily likes. He really wanted to impress her and make her feel special. So a month later he filled the common room with lilies and a basket with her favourite things. 

In the morning when everyone went down to the common room James was standing there, waiting for Lily who came down with the rest of their friends.

“Lily. This is for you.” James handed her the basket.

“James what the-”

“I’m in love with you Lily. You are so smart and pretty and you’ll make me the happiest person in Hogwarts if you go on a date with me!”

“James this is ridiculous, you are ridiculous. Call me when you mature and stop being a little prankster. Then I’ll think about it.”

“Oh okay. Emmm I—”

“Don’t. Just clean all of these.”

“Okay”

“I’ll help you Prongs.” It was his best friend Sirius. Always there for him. 

“It was very nice Prongs” Now it was Pete joining them in the cleaning chores.

“That was uncalled for Lily” Remus join them too. This surprised James because Remus was really good friends with Lily. 

“Thanks Remus.” Sirius kissed Remus cheek and they both turned red. Well that’s new. 

They finished cleaning and went on with their day as if nothing happened. James was smiling and dancing around in no time, but he was broken inside. He didn’t want to tell his friend how much that hurt his heart and his ego. He wasn’t that guy who cried about a bad moment when they could have a great day. But he was so sad it was difficult to keep a smile on. He managed it and nobody ask how he was so he didn’t have to lie. 

He cried himself to sleep that night.

James didn’t prank anyone in a month. Everyone was surprised and even some where commenting on him not being as bright and as loud. Good Lily didn’t like that and he liked Lily. 

Lily was caring a lot of books one day and James wanted to help her out of the kindness of his heart.

“Hey Lils. Can I help you?”

“No.”

“Oh”

“You can help me James.” It was Pandora. The sweet Ravenclaw girl who always hang out with Sirius’ brother, Regulus. 

James did help her and they walk together to her dorm.

“Hey Pandora, can I ask you a question?

“Sure James.” The blonde girl had the sweetest smile ever.

“How can I get to a girls heart.”

“James, you are kind, handsome and very smart, you’ll have no trouble getting to the heart of the right person.” That warm his heart 

“Thanks Pandora.”

“Thank you James. For being so kind” Pandora kissed his cheek. 

A week later he went for it again. He had been writing a song for Lily ever since he had that conversation with his mom and he was going to sing it to her tonight. 

He waited for her to get to the common room. But before she came in, Sirius and Remus appeared. They were fighting. James hated when people fight. 

“What’s going on”

“He is a bloody arsehole. That’s what’s up Prongs”

“Me? He is being fucking dramatic and I don’t get him. Stop acting so weird Moony.” Remus groan. 

“Sit down guys. Tell me what’s up. Maybe I can help.”

“You can’t Prongs. You can’t fix everything. Don’t you get it? Sometimes I hate how stupid you and Sirius get. I need a rest, Pete needs a rest. We should find other friend.”

“Other friends? What are you talking about Moons? We are family.”

“Leave him Prongs. He is being a dickhead.”

“Pads-”

“Don’t tell me you agree with him.”

“I-”

“WELL FUCK YOU BOTH”

Remus and Sirius left the room and it was just James again. 

James felt his heart break. His friends were the most important thing for him. He couldn’t manage this type of sadness. 

Lily got there and James tried to calm himself down. 

“Lily you’ve got a second?”

Lily didn’t seem pleased. 

“Sure. What is it James?”

“I wrote a song for you. This is a guitar, its muggle.” James was so excited to tell her everything about it. 

“I know James. My parents are muggles remember?”

“Right. So I haven’t done any pranks for a while now, and I was wondering if you could give me a chance and hear my song.”

There was a group of people gather now. And they started cheering or laughing and James got his guitar. He thought it was a good thing but apparently Lily didn’t agree.

“James stop it, people are staring”

“Let them. I don’t mind. I’ve work really hard.” Said James as he play the first string. 

“Stop it! Why do you keep trying to humiliate me?”

“I wasn’t. Lily I’m sorry if it seem like it.”

“And you thinking you are so much better than me.”

“Lily its not like that-”

“From now on I want you to leave me alone.”

“Please let me explain.”

“No! Why don’t you do us all a favour and just jump from the astronomy tower!”

Wow. That really got to James. Why was everything so shitty? His friends didn’t want to be friend anymore, their parents probably hated him and Lily wanted him gone, like gone gone. Why was she so mean? 

James went to his room crying, but when he tried to get in he couldn’t open the door. 

Peter open the door. 

“I’m sorry James, but Remus said it would be better if you and Sirius sleep elsewhere tonight.”

“But Pete…”

“Don’t worry Prongs. It’ll be just for to night, until things calm down.”

“O…Okay.” 

So James went to the astronomy tower. To think. Or maybe more…
