Dormitories
Sunday 1, September 1991
After the feast I feel very sleepy, but much more calm than I was at the beginning of the day. All of the first years mindlessly followed the headboy and girl to the common room. Once we were in the dungeons we walked down a short stairwell that was hidden behind a tapestry that led to the entrance. When we got there we all looked very intrigued by the snake head that marked where the common room was. It was a very surreal feeling, much like getting to the platform where you walk through a wall only this time, you get…swallowed by the snake head. The only difference is you have to say the password before it allows you through (apparently it was lemondrop)
Once inside the common room the oddness of the entrance left my mind. The common room truly was very beautiful, and very elegant. It was a cavernous room that seemed to glow green. It was adorned by bookshelves, desks, and in the middle there were large leather couches; perfect for sitting and hanging out with your friends.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to admire it for very long because the head boy and girl started splitting us up and taking us to our dormitories. The dormitories were luckily not a far walk, you just had to go to the hallway marked boys or girls and find your room number (mine was 13)
Somehow, I loved the dormitories more than the common room. There was a shared living room esque area; here was a couch and a desk for communal use. Surrounding it were two doors that (presumably) led to the bedrooms.
“I want the room on the right if that's alright with you.” Pansy said. I was so wrapped up in my own thoughts I didn’t even notice when she walked in with me. But I’m glad that my roommate is someone I know and not a random student.
“Yeah that's fine with me.” By this point we were both really tired from our long (but felt like very short) day. With that we both promptly took our stuff and went into our respective rooms.
I was glad to see my cat - Raven - as I took her out of her kennel and let her explore the place. While she was doing that I opened my trunk and took my pajamas for the night, deciding that I could unpack in the morning.
Walking into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth, I found myself smiling because despite my doubts about getting into slytherin like my dad, I did. I made it. For that and that alone I was proud of myself.
After finishing up in the bathroom, I set up Raven's litter box, picked her up and plopped her on my already made (courtesy of the house elves)bed. As I finally made myself comfortable in my bed, I fell asleep ready for all of the memories I would make here.
