Chapter 1

Regulus Black craves James Potter.

Of course, Regulus if far to prideful to allow himself to interact with James in a non-hostile manner. For the last five years of his life, from the first time Sirius had introduced him to his best friend, Regulus had been silently obsessed with the older boy.

Dark hair and long limbs consumed his idle thoughts; he’d nearly lost a quidditch game because he was to distracted by the way James squinted when he focused.

After Regulus’s second year, Sirius’s third, he spent a good deal to the summer sorting through their room and deciding what to drag back to Hogwarts with him and return to Sirius. Sirius had run after attempting to come out to their parents. They’d run straight to James Potter.

He didn’t blame Sirius, not really. He couldn’t.

The only good thing that had come out of it was that Regulus had been named the heir to the house of black, in a was solidifying his own gender identity in the eyes of his family. It was a terrible sort of hypocrisy to cast out one child, only to bless the other with the thing they both craved.
In his search through Sirius’s things he’d stumbled across something he was never supposed to see.

Sirius liked to journal. Regulus knew that. It had gotten Sirius in trouble more times than he could remember over the years.
This journal however was different. It was made up of pages of different sizes and colors, all hand sewn into brown leather binding.

Sirius had made this one, but it wasn’t just a diary like they usually kept, it was full of strange research. As he flipped through, he found a detailed explanation of a complex ritual and a detailed account of Sirius and his friends performing it.

They had become animagus. Sirius and James, the idiots, had performed an illegal ritual but he couldn’t for the life of him find out why.

But he did have an idea.

An idea he’d need help with.
