Regulus flips the page in his book as Barty practically laying on top of him. Every once in a while Barty reaches up and grabs the book from Regulus’ hand and reads a little bit of the book and comments to regulus about it.
“Why does this dude hate women so much? Merlin Reggie what are you reading. Didn’t he just try a suicide pact and the woman died and he survived and now he’s fucking another woman?!” Regulus skids the book back out of Bartys hand and says nothing while he continues reading.
About an hour or so later there’s a loud thud at the library doors, as regulus looks up he sees it was James Potter who had flung the doors open. He practically threw himself at lily as he sat there and pestered her with dozens of questions such as ‘What are you doing for the holidays’ and ‘come on lily stay back for me’ all of his advances were met with eye rolling and laughter from Miss Lily Evans herself. Regulus almost felt proud of her for the way she always managed to deflect James.
“Potter bugger off we’re trying to read here and you’re loud” Barty practically shouted across the library, earning the attention of everybody in the room, especially James. Now Regulus had nothing personal against James, other than the fact that he took Sirius and left Regulus alone to deal with the wrath of Walburga and Orion. But other than that? Not really.
“Barty just shut up would you? We don’t want to cause a bloody scene so we?” Regulus hissed in Bartys ear before he could summon anymore attention. Now something Regulus would never admit to anyone, is that he found James sort of attractive, especially during quidditch matches. Regulus had never really spoken to James before, they never had any classes together and the only thing they really had in common was Sirius. And that’s not enough, what was he supposed to do go up to James and be like ‘Hey potter how’s my brother doing now that he lives with you? Is he happy he left me alone to take double the punishment while he gets nothing but the occasional howler from mother?’ No. He was not going to do that, as tempted as he was.
“Sorry Crouch, Sorry Regulus!” James called back before leaving the library. Regulus ignored him and continued reading his book partially released that James had left. After another half hour both Regulus and Barty got up and headed back down to the Slytherin common room.
Regulus walked into the dorm quietly carrying his books and placing them delicately on his bed. He sat down on his bed shuffling through the books until he pulled out a book on snakes. He passed it over to pandora who was sitting on the floor with a small snake wrapped around her wrist.
“Thank you Reggie” she beamed at him as she took the book and flipped through it seeming as though she was reading it to the snake itself.
“You’re welcome Pandora” Regulud said as he moved down onto the floor to sit with her and the snake. Regulud reached out and gently held his palm open for the snake which hesitated before wrapping itself around his arm while he sat and gently pet it.
“So what are you naming him?” Regulus asked as the small snake worked its way up his shoulder, Pandora gently closed the book and looked around thoughtfully.
“Godric” Pandora says laughing a bit as she takes the small snake back before it reaches regulus’ neck “you know cause I don’t want to name him Salazar cause that’s too on the nose, but it’d be even more funny to have a snake named after the founder of Gryffindor house wouldn’t it?”
