Mudblood
Sirius walked with purpose as he made his way into the great hall, and that purpose was to try his best and be understanding, Regulus hadn't called Lily a mudblood, right?
Sirius saw the raven mop of curls walking towards him, his hand slightly grazing Verrat's as they walked, but Sirius paid no mind, instead he felt his face go hot with anger as he stopped Regulus in his tracks.
"I need to talk to you"
Regulus rolled his eyes, looking at Verrat, who had an eyebrow raised, a tight lipped smile spread on his, in Sirius' opinion, very punchable face.
When neither of them made any attempt to move away from the others side Sirius huffed in exasperation, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger.
"Alone..." Sirius reiterated, resting his hands on his hips, he felt like a middle-aged mother about to scold his child, and really, he may aswell have been, a fifteen year old seconds away from dragging his fourteen year old brother into an empty classroom and shouting at him until his voice is raspy and his throat aches profusely.
Regulus only looked over at Verrat, mumbling something into his ear, low enough for Sirius not to hear, his brothers remark made Verrat chuckle, a low, husky, laugh that made Sirius' inside boil and his fists clench, he felt his nose flare in frustration.
"Regulus..." Sirius warned, his voice getting dangerously low, he was about to reach for his wand, that must sound bad, but it was the only thought that made sense in Sirius' head at the moment in time.
When Regulus looked forward again, he had a sly smirk plastered on his face, his head cocked to the side slightly, his raven and slightly blonde curls bounced around, framing Regulus' face in a way that made him look like Sirius' baby brother, not the Slytherin prince that he hardly knew anymore.
Sirius felt his face soften, a fond smile almost creeping up on him, but he made sure to remind himself that Regulus may or may not be just another bigoted arsehole .
"Louis can speak French, Sirius, you idiot, you don't need to pretend around him," Regulus said, chuckling slightly, Sirius felt his face go a bit red but he payed no mind, instead he cocked an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest, hoping that he looked even a little intimidating.
Regulus looked from Verrat to Sirius, Verrat to Sirius, Regulus raised his eyebrows at Verrat, a silent conversation passed between them, eyebrows rising and falling, heads jutting in Sirius' direction, eyes widening and finally falling into slits.
"Fine..." Regulus relented, closing his eyes and taking deep breaths through his nose, he shook his head again, curls bobbing about as Regulus calmed himself down from the silent argument.
"Fine, lead the way, brother." Regulus said opening his eyes again, he turned over to Verrat, softly putting his hand on Verrats bicep.
"I'll see you in the common room, Louis." But Verrat didn't look back as he shrugged Regulus' hand off him, walking down to the dungeons in a huff.
Sirius could feel Regulus tense beside him as Sirius motioned for the younger boy to follow him.
The thing is ever since Louis moved from Beauxbatons to Hogwarts Sirius had never gotten good vibes, he was charming, sure, he had alright music taste, and a type of mysteriousness just radiated from him, he sounded almost exactly like Remus, except Remus had much better music taste, but that's besides the point.
Basically, Sirius doesn't trust the guy as far as he can throw him, which, he is reluctant to admit probably isn't very far, but that's the entire point.
And okay, maybe he is being slightly suspicious and maybe it's far fetched, but until your baby brother is constantly tensing up around Verrat, and always fiddling with the sleeves of his robes when he's near, you can't tell him shit, Sirius decided with a nod of his head.
And maybe, just maybe it wasn't Verrats fault, and maybe it was the circumstances, the situations, but it couldn't just be a coincidence, maybe Verrat was......No, Sirius shook his head, not letting his mind wander that far, he can think about that later, but right now he needs to focus on Lily, and Regulus being discriminatory towards her.
Sirius twisted and turned through the hallways, occasionally looking behind him to make sure Regulus was still following behind him, and he was, reluctantly, but he was.
Eventually Sirius stopped speed-walking, finally finding an empty classroom, he flung the door open, grabbing the back of Regulus' robe and tugging him in, Sirius checked the hallway, looking both ways to make sure no one had seen or followed them.
Sirius quickly whipped around, pulling his wand out of his pocket and cast a quick colloportus so that no one would stumble in in a frenzy, looking for some empty classroom to snog or shag in, because yes, that's the only reason someone would ever want to go into a classroom, in Sirius' little world anyway.
"Sirius, what's-"
"WHAT THE FUCK REGULUS." Sirius screamed, finally letting his pent up anger out, he felt bad when he saw the way Regulus violently flinched back, but he couldn't find it in himself to care very much, he'd apologise later, but right now he needed to understand.
"What do you mea-" Regulus asked, his eyes wide, he was subtly moving backwards, away from Sirius, away from the threat, Sirius would be lying if he said it didn't hurt, but again, he would worry about that later.
"You know what I mean Regulus, don't be stupid,"
"I don't fucking know what you're going on about, Sirius, please jus-"
Sirius decided to stop being subtle, Regulus didn't deserve to admit what he did, he didn't deserve to be honest.
"Regulus, did you call Lily a, y'know..." Sirius looked around a little, looking to the door to make sure that no one was waiting outside.
He faced Regulus again, who had an eyebrow raised and a questioning glare plastered on his face.
"A what?" He asked, the conversation, finally starting to annoy him, he had a frustrated scowl written across his lips, thought it seemed he always had a scowl on these days, and Sirius was slightly surprised that Regulus had tolerated this conversation for so long.
"Y'know..." Sirius said, starting to get antsy.
"A mudblood..." Sirius whispered, his eyes widening as soon as the word left his mouth, his head whipping around in search of someone who wasn't there, maybe the black family madness was catching up to him Sirius thought, humming thoughtfully .
Regulus didn't say anything, he just looked down at his feet, slumping against the desk behind him.
"Regulus..."
Sirius' eyebrows furrowed, he was loosing hope, and fast, the fact he could have already lost Regulus, no, he has already lost him, his baby brother, without him truly being gone...
"Unbelievable..." Sirius scoffed, shaking his head, an overwhelming amount of disappointment crashing into him with full force, drowning him in his sorrow.
He turned around, walking to the door, his mind racing, he was too late, Regulus is just like them...
"Sirius, wait..."
"No, Regulus, I know you've said shit like that before, merlin, I have, but not to people, not to my brothers mates..." Sirius unlocks the door with his wand, wordless magic...learning that hurt like a bitch.
And yes Lily was his mate, but he'd heard rumours that she was Regulus' aswell, Sirius couldn't really tell what was worse...
"Siri..." Regulus cried, his voice cracking in pain.
"No, Regulus, don't talk to me, just, leave me and my mates alone..."
"Alright?" Sirius asked forcefully, he didn't hear Regulus' meek okay, he just slammed the door behind him, walking down the hallway with his head held high.
All thoughts of talking to Verrat and forcing him to come clean about something, literally anything, dissipated, along with the last slivers of hope he held for his brother turning out to be a somewhat alright person, especially with their "family".
It hadn't sunk in yet, not really, and when it did he would cry, he would scream, and he would look to Moony for comfort, not knowing that his Moony was doing the exact same for his brother, the brother he no longer cared for, at least he thought he didn't...
Sirius was slumped against the wooden black bed, he felt as if he was recovering from an awful hangover, he wasn't, but after that talk with Pandora it sure felt like it.
"Where did it all go wrong?" Sirius whispered to himself, resting his head on the black bed frame, closing his eyes for a bit.
"Where did it all go wrong?"
