The Beginning
You'd always been mischievous as a child, something you'd picked up from your older sister, Nymphadora. Your shenanigans and tomfoolery followed you into high school, Hogwarts to be specific, where you had a history of terrorising teachers and students alike. It was the same place your mother and older sister had attended, leaving a very bright legacy for you to live up to. Your mother, Andromeda, was a part of the Black family, making you and your sister half-bloods. You weren't as lucky as your sister, she was a metamorphmagus. Nonetheless, you were just as tricky as she was in school.
It was fifth year and today was the first day back at school. "Mum! Dad! Let's go, we're going to miss the train!" It wasn't like you actually cared about getting to school, you were dreading it in fact. But you didn't want to burden your parents with taking you all the way to Hogwarts because you had been late. "Yes love, let's go." Your father Ted called out as you headed to your fireplace to catch the floo. Each year both your parents and Nymph would come to bid you farewell before the school year began. "I have to get to the ministry straight after or Moody will have my head." Nymph said dramatically, entering the fireplace with a hand full of floo powder.
You noticed how busy the station was after passing through the small platform wall, your family in tow. You pushed your trolley deeper into the platform, taking in the nostalgic feeling of when you first came to Hogwarts. You'd been so nervous, and your big sister had let you sit with her friends the whole train ride there. Never again though, after you'd placed bang snaps throughout every corridor of the train.
"Okay dear do you have everything?" Fidgeting with her hands your mother gave you a sweet smile, looking you up and down to ensure nothing had been forgotten. "Yes Mum, I'll be fine." Waving her off you went in to give your Dad a hug. "Best behaviour this year young lady, got it?" Your Dad asked with a devilish smirk, "More like worst," Matching your fathers expression you pulled out of the hug to meet his eyes. "That's my girl." He tousled your hair with a big fatherly grin on his face. "Give 'em hell sis." Nymph put out her fist, signaling you to bump it with your own. "Stop acting so cool, come here." Nymph scoffed as you dragged her into a hug, but deep down you knew she'd miss you too.
"Right, time to go." With that, you turned on your heel and pushed your trolley towards the train. Just as you began walking the wheels of your trolley seemed to get a mind of their own, accidentally wheeling you right into someone. "F#%k! Watch it, Tonks." A boy with long red hair scowled at you, bent over and holding the side of his body you'd just rammed. "Bite me, Weasley." You stuck your tongue out as you ended the phrase. George Weasley, your biggest competition. His twin Fred coming in at a close second. The three of you all loved pranks and managed to get up to a lot of trouble. But you were always trying to outdo each other, a sort of rivalry one might say.
Sorting through the crowd you found your way to the train and took a seat with your friends. "Hey Ange." You smiled at your friend brightly, sitting across from her in the carriage. "Oh my god! How have you been? I barely heard from you all summer." The brunette smiled back at you, leaning forward on the edge of her seat to inquire about your holidays. "I know I'm so sorry, my parents made me actually do stuff this year." The two of you went on and on for the entire train ride, telling each other vivid tales of the summer that had passed. You'd both been sorted into Gryffindor in first year and had been best friends ever since.
Throughout a torturously longer welcome dinner, it had been announced that this year the Tri-Wizard Tournament would be held at your school. "Oh my god, the Durmstrang boys are so cute." Ange whispered to you as the bulgarian males thumped into the hall. "Sure..." Eye-ing up the boys you rolled your eyes at Angelina's low standards. Dinner proceeded and soon it was curfew. As you and the rest of Gryffindor ascended the stairs, yourself and Angelina were wrapped up in a conversation about your love lives.
"So, any cute boys this summer? I've been talking about myself so much I forgot to ask." She raised her eyebrows at you, trying to imply some mystery man you may have been hiding. "Turn it up, even if Tonks could get a guy she'd scare him off with those treacherous things she calls pranks." George butted into your conversation, giving you daggers. You scoffed at his childishness, "Yeah you wish carrot top, try again when you actually have a girlfriend." "Careful, you'll scare off all the new Durmstrang meat talking like that." Fred sidled up next to his brother, attempting to add insult to injury. "Whatever, bye veggie patch."
That was how you addressed them, carrot top for singular and veggie patch for the pair. It had begun in first year when you'd made a comment about their hair colour and eventually spiraled into a nickname of your creation. Not giving the two another ounce of your time, you and Angelina headed up to your dorm ready to crash for the night.
