A New Day

No sooner had Hermione disappeared with the blue flames, she reappeared somewhere else. Landing on her butt with a thump as her legs gave out on her. Eh-Where am I? Reaching out a tentative hand the child felt dirt and leaves. Bug-eyed Hermione peered at the landscape in front of her, very pretty. Before Hermione could even get up to look around further, her eyes welled with fresh tears. Voice scratchy she called into the darkness “h-hello?” trees surrounded her, flowers filled the ground. The sweet smell of daisies and heather brushed gently against her nose. Falling backwards Hermione gazed up at the stars, they were so bright, twinkling happily no idea that she was alone in an unknown place.

Her eyes, blinking sleepily, welled with tears blurring the stars in her vision. What happened? One second I’m home with mum and dad, the next the blue flames, and now I’m here. Unable to think more about what had happened the dam inside her was broken. Tears suddenly rolled down her face. Unbeknownst to Hermione further away in the trees the young boy that she would come to know as her brother appeared hand in hand with Death itself. Staggering to her feet Hermione did her best to wipe the tears from her eyes, trudging forward into the unknown darkness of the forest stumbling over tree roots. Reaching upwards, she brushed a fresh flood of tears from her eyes. Hermione searched around for any sign that she might recognize. No such luck, Hermione was lost.

Blue lights that looked like flames shimmered in front of her faintly, gasping she ran towards the trail that had magically appeared. Sprinting as fast as her small body allowed chasing the flickering flames Hermione burst through the tree line into a clearing full of plant life and small creatures that did not seem to be real, the largest creature appeared to be a bird of some sort of all things. That didn’t make sense though “giant birds aren’t real” she muttered quietly to herself, “this isn’t real I’m going to wake up and be home” The thoughts raced through her mind unable to make sense of what she was seeing. Being barely six years old probably didn’t help. Tentatively Hermione made her way further into the clearing staring wide eyed at the wonderous scene in front of her. The tears that had coated her cheeks dried making her face feel stiff and gross. Staring at the creatures. Some stirred and woke staring right back at her before the pair of birds opened their eyes staring her down. Fear paralyzed every part of Hermione as she stared into the opalescent eyes of the creatures.

“Hello little one, we’ve been waiting for you to arrive” The voices echoed around her head as she stared dumbstruck. “My name is herm- Hermione” curiously she walked towards the unknown bird things “what are you?” not able to stop herself she reached out tentatively brushing her hand over the dark feathers that lined the bird’s face, “you look like ravens, but you feel like something else.” Unbidden her other hand reached forth caressing the other raven’s feathers. “I feel as if I know you”.

Meanwhile, young Harry gripped the shadow’s cold hand tighter staring out towards the sea. His eyes widened at the vast expanse of water that beat against the cliffs he and the shadow stood upon. “Mr. Death sir- uhm where are we” Harry’s voice sounded faint as he stared at the sight in front of him “we are home” Turning his eyes towards the towering shadow figure Harry tentatively smiled, “safe?” The cloaked figure known as Death stared down at the small child feeling the cold part of his nonexistent heart warm slightly.

“Yes, and here soon your sister will join us.” Harry’s eyes widened comically, gripping onto Death’s hand even tighter he practically squealed in excitement “I Have a sister?!?!” eyes shining brightly. “yes little one but you must be patient she has to meet with a couple others before she can join us”.

Looking down little Harry smiled to himself feeling the excitement course through his veins. “I have a sister” the words seemed foreign on his tongue, like they didn’t belong. Turning around and facing the clearing filled with creatures and an abundance of plant life that seemed to dance without wind to aid it’s movements. In the distance there was a small girl that was conversing with two ravens. Blood rushing through Harry’s ears deafened the sound of Death’s voice speaking to him, “That’s your sister, her name is Hermione.” He glanced up at the shadowy figure a beaming smile as he haphazardly pushed his glasses up his nose. “That is an amazing name.”
