Chapter 2

Once arriving at the rather crowded cliffside where the world-famous quidditch cup was being held, the Head of the Malfoy family led the two children toward a massive tent. Upon walking in, the two children stood behind the man as he greeted the others who would be joining them. Minister Fudge was among them.

“Ah, Mr. Malfoy, wonderful to have you here,” The man raved as he walked over. “Young Malfoy, and Ms. Lestrange so glad to have you here as well, if you don’t mind,” He beamed, but his demeanor was stiff. “I would like to steal your father for a moment, why don’t you two go enjoy the activities that have been prepared outside the tent,” He said, his eyes obtained a look of false enthusiasm. He talked to the two as if they were five and unable to be regarded as anything but.

The young heirs looked to the adult waiting for him to send a signal that it was okay for them to disperse, to which he looked over his shoulder and nodded his head ever so slightly so that no one would notice unless actively looking for it.

“Yes Father,” Draco answered, At the same time Helene responded, “As you wish,”

Once they had finally made their way outside of the tent, Helene let out an inaudible breath as she visibly relaxed, she hated being around ministry officials.

“Rather unfair that we were asked to leave, don’t you think?” Draco pouted as they walked farther from the tent.

“Please Draco, you and I both know it’s safer out here than in that bloody tent, without that whack job of a minister breathing down our necks,” Helene huffed, making her way over to a tent that had small little knick-knacks that the people were selling.

“Say what you want Helene, but I would kill to be in that tent, I’m the Malfoy heir after all, I have a right to be there,”

“Ah yes, dear cousin but you are simply the heir and not yet the head of the family. You are still only fourteen, due give it some time before you start making ridiculous demands.”  She snorted in an unladylike manner, as her cousin shot her with a dirty look.

“Whatever, when I’m head of the family no one will be allowed to keep me out of the conversation ever,” Draco said, arms crossed and face scrunched in an unpleasant way, she couldn’t help but laugh aloud while patting his silken locks.

“Whatever you say ducky.”

After roaming a bit, the two were summoned back to the tent where Lucius had been waiting for them, it was time for them to head towards the pitch and make their way to the minister’s booth. While walking up the ramps and following the long lines, Helene had let her eyes wander around the walkway, trailing after multiple different people. When suddenly, the two men she was following stopped at the edge of a railing.

Lucius shouted to a railing above with a sly joke, the short girl’s eyes shot in that direction. Suddenly, she was looking at a bustle of red-headed wizards that were very familiar to her. Standing to the side of the eldest Malfoy was Draco with a smile on his face as he laughed at his dad’s joke, Helene stood to the side of her cousin with a bored face. Rather than continue to listen to Draco’s useless bragging, the girl walked ahead of the two, hazel eyes following two particular figures who were walking away from their own father.

So lost in her staring the girl was pulled out of her daze when the long-haired blonde brought his snake cane up, catching the famous Harry Potter by a pant leg.

“-enjoy it while you can,” He had said to the boy with the curly black hair. Eyebrows shot to her forehead as she wondered if the man would risk his image due to the fact the boy who lived had tried to ignore him. It was no secret when a Malfoy’s pride is hurt they tend to act in a very childish way, and from her knowledge, the dark-haired boy had managed to wound the Malfoy's pride on many accounts it seemed.

After the game, the three made their way back to their tent. Helene and Draco had gone to the elegant couch while Lucius had snuck off to Merlin only knew where to do Merlin knew what.

Only left with the words. “Stay here,” that was whispered into the air as he looked at his son and niece with a hint of worry.

After about twenty minutes of Draco ranting and raving about Harry Potter and his ridiculous hair and his filthy friends, Helene had zoned out and pulled out an already halfway-finished book. It had to have been about an hour or more when Helene heard it.

A scream.

Draco obliviously continued to rant and rave when the girl quickly shushed him.

“Draco, hush” She snapped, her finger over her lips. The boy opened his mouth to exclaim how rude she was when he also heard it.

More screams.

Helene shot up from her seat, her cousin had a worried look painted across his face.

“What-,"

“Shhh” She spat and inched her way to the tent flap.

“Helene, what are you doing?" The girl lifted the flap to peer out.

Chaos.

It was absolute chaos.

Figures ran in every direction, and people screamed and shouted. People were panicking, pushing, and shoving, in the distance she swore she saw cloaked figures with masks. She knew who they were.

Death eaters.

“Mommy!” A voice screamed, and hazel eyes went to the voice. Somehow, throughout the different people running she saw her. The small toddler, about 7 years old, had tears in her eyes, as she looked around for her parents. Helene’s heart clenched looking at the sight, she felt sick.

Helene heard the child call out again, and she took an unknowing step forward when Draco snatched her arm. Fear flooded his eyes.

“Helene, come on,” He pleaded as he attempted to tug her back in.

Her eyes never strayed from the crying child’s face.

Draco pulled her arm harder.

“Helene, come on!” He shouted louder; panic completely took over his voice. “Come back in!” He finally succeeded in pulling her back. The girl noticed that her body felt heavy, she felt wrong, what was she supposed to do? Listen to the screams?

They were so familiar, almost as if she had heard those exact shouts of pure terror when they hit her. She had heard them before, not in real life but in her dreams, the same dream she had woken up from in a cold sweat just that morning.

She couldn’t leave the child there, could she? What was she supposed to do? There was fire around, and figures in cloaks on a rampage. Adults were pushing each other down; how could a child stay safe in this? As she went to step out again a figure appeared, swiped the child up, and was running like hell.

Helene felt like she could breathe.

“Lennie!” Her cousin finally screamed the nickname he had given her when she was six and he was 4, it was short for Helene, and that is what snapped her from her panic-stricken gaze.

“Dray, we have to go!” She turned to him; he was scared. She could tell from the look on his face and the tears in his eyes.

“But Dad said to stay here!” He shook his head.

“Draco! Listen to me there are fires outside, and they are spreading closer and closer to our tent, we have to go!”

“But Dad!” He shouted again, Helene pulled him into her arms and hugged him tight.

She didn’t know what to do, did she stay, and let the fire get closer? Or did she run into the crowd of panicking people?

She didn’t understand, where was her uncle? Where had he gone? He had never put them in harm’s way like this before, and it worried the hell out of her, because yes Lucius did questionable things due to the Malfoy image, but he never would have left his son in the middle of an attack unless he was forced.

She wasn’t stupid, she knew what this was. It was an uproar, and those figures outside were Voldemort’s followers, the same people that her father had fought alongside. It pained her to think her father had done things like this, to innocent people no less. But here at this moment, she could only feel fear.

Suddenly, the flap to the tent was yanked open. There he was, in his dark robes, Lucius stood in all his might, face calm but eyes screaming in panic as he looked for the two children under his care.

“Dad!” Draco shouted when he turned his head.

“Come with me! Now!” Lucius shouted to the kids, who ran to him and he gripped their arms before they all vanished in the blink of an eye.

Next thing she knew the three figures were in the sitting room of Malfoy Manor. Narcissa shot up and sped to the three. Lucius sent her a silent look before he nudged the kids towards her and popped off once again.

The two kids, still shaken, sat with the woman for a minute before she ushered them both off. Not another word was spoken that night.
