The Weasley Twins
Draco opened his eyes slowly. The curtains were still drawn around his bed, so despite not being able to see past them, they couldn’t see him either. He needed to collect his thoughts. Pomfrey is elsewhere in the room (already having checked up on him, which he promptly pretended to be asleep) and the Weasley twins were kind of distracted with the new kid.
Speaking of...
Draco peered out the edge of the curtains at the boy.
He had taken that insult personally, but here he is, joking around with those two hooligans. Was it because of how quiet the Gryffindors were? Or because that insult was personal? He’s not a Weasley for sure, because there was some sort of strain that didn’t speak ‘known him for my whole life’, so... Why? Why would he take offense?
Acting because it was personal to them, and acting because it’s personal to someone else is completely different. Draco has known that for a long time, alongside his other knowledge for political instances. Hell, the guy had snapped his fork in half. With his bare hand. It’s surprising that the guy looks scrawny and weak, but he’s probably stronger than a lot of people in this school.
Draco had no clue, for once in his life. Chances are, Dazai would know the exact reason and still not tell him. ‘Figure it out yourself’ or whatever. Maybe even a ‘I don’t think you want to know’. Draco doesn’t even know if he could even confront the guy about it. That stare had pierced through his mind, creating a permanent image to haunt him.
It was a dull kind of look, blood red (maybe a little darker because of his shadow) eyes peering at him in semi-amusement. He wasn’t sure what was in that other part, but that smile... That is not the smile of someone who is the least bit sane. Perhaps the sight was exaggerated by his mind, in the haste of getting fucking choked to death.
Why didn’t anyone do anything? Crabbe and Goyle were standing right behind him, and all those Gryffindors were sitting there, too! The teachers had noticed but didn’t get there all that hurriedly. It was a surprise that the guy had let him go in the first place. He had apparently blacked out not too long after.
“Interesting, interesting. So, Nakahara-”
“Just Chuuya, please.”
“-Chuuya, then. You think that could get you expelled?”
“...I hope not. My brother would kill me, really. I don’t think I will... At least, not this time.”
“What a terrible impression you must have of the school.”
“Oh, uh... No, I think it’s nice, actually.”
There was clear hesitation in his voice. Draco doesn’t know what he’s doing anymore, so it’s best if he gets out of here. His throat’s a little sore, but otherwise, everything’s fine. He might get a little dizzy later on, though...He should ask for Dazai’s opinion if he’s going to tell father. The new kid, Chuuya Nakahara, seems like the type to not mess with. He's learnt his lesson.
“Oh, you’re awake, Draco.”
He froze up, his fingers tightening on the curtains.
What. The. Fuck.
The guy hadn’t even turned his head around! How the-
“Professor McGonagall said that... You and I have detention together. Starting tomorrow after our last lesson. Professor Snape’s office. You've got a week’s worth,” Chuuya turned towards the twins and smiled, “Thank you for the directions. Hope your products get successful.”
He promptly walked out of the infirmary. He drew the curtain open to stare at the twins. They looked at each other and shivered.
“...That guy was scary. Did you hear him? ‘At least, not this time.’ He said it like he was going to do it again!”
He threw his legs off the bed and huffed. The twins gave him their attention as his fellow gang members. He knew his throat would be dry, but he forced it out anyway. It came out louder than what he wanted.
“I can’t believe I’m getting detention.Me! It's never been a problem before, so why now?”
“You deserve it, actually.”
“What- I- Actually... Yeah, you’re right. Sorry about insulting you and your family.”
“Ah, It’s not an issue! To us, anyway. Ginny and Ron are another case.”
“He’s right. Dazai did say, as members of Hell’s Hounds, we have to get along. Forgiveness is the first step to a healthy relationship.”
It's good that the twins are willing to forgive him. He wasn’t sure how well the gang would do without the trust they’ve been building since Hermione declared everyone was going to bond. No. He was sure. It would crumble, and Dazai would be the one tasked with picking up the pieces again. He didn’t want to inconvenience the boss like that, not with the Triwizard tournament coming up and his duties as a Mafioso.
“...Right.”
“Ah, you’re awake. Are you feeling better?”
Pomfrey. He almost forgot she was here. He nodded. She left them alone soon enough, and only after multiple minutes of silence did anyone speak up again.
“Got any idea why he went to the library? He doesn’t know what we’re doing in class, yet, right?”
“Not that we know.”
“Oh! Err...”
George seemed hesitant. Draco wanted to ask, but he wasn’t sure if he was in the right place to ask.
“...What’s up, George?”
“Didn’t Dazai say he wanted to go to the library earlier, during dinner? I thought I heard something similar.”
At that very moment, Draco knew what was going to happen when they met would be nothing short of a shitshow. A boy who is known to be a demon, and a new ‘hero’? Draco just didn’t want anyone from the gang to be caught in the crossfire.
He sighed, watching as the Weasley twins left the infirmary together, already speculating about whatever new ideas for their joke shop they thought of. Draco wasn’t sure what to think of this new Gryffindor, but whatever conclusion he came up with... he knew that he would be afraid. Chuuya, from the moment his eyes had flickered red, was a threat.
