Prologue
10 years before everything. When life was simpler no war no marriage. Nothing. Just 9 year old James. On his way to his first formal event. After a tragic accident with the king of Crudo his son the same age as James was being crowned king. Severus a boy with short dark hair and a weird nose, Now that boy was going to be king. They had met on one other occasion and James wouldn't say it was.. pleasing. Crudo has a lot darker feel to it than Sol does. Even when the sun was out it felt cloudy and cold. The trees were pine, unlike the oak in Sol. There was barely any flowers. It was scary for a kid so used to being in such a bright and happy place. After the longest plane ride ever (A few hours) he was ready to be on solid ground. After a long car ride, they were in front of the castle. He already talked to his mom and dad on the way there. Manners. Sit still. Please don't talk about flowers to everyone you meet. The basic things he gets told every time the company comes over. He always failed. That is not what mattered now James was going to be on his best behavior.
Until he saw two kids around his age get out of a car in all-black suits, parallel to his own. A white suit with suns embroidered on with yellow beads. He looked closer at the boys. (A habit his mom told him to cut out.) The slightly taller one had pale skin and long black slightly curly hair- he also wore something on his head like a silver flower crown minus the flowers and replaced them with green jewels. He also carried himself with a sense of pride that James tried to copy—standing up straighter though it did hurt. He watched the taller one get a look from what James presumed to be his mom looking at the boy's hands. Which James now noticed had pen ink on them and the boy quickly covered his hands with statin black gloves. James then looked over at the slightly smaller boy who had short loose curly hair and a thin frame. The same pale skin as the older one though he had soft freckles on his skin that he noticed and wanted to look closer to. To play connect the dots with them. Then the boys looked over at him and he froze. Then he realized they were just trying to spot if there were any cameras around. Not now but there would be sure some later. He flashed them a lopsided smile, his glasses falling down his nose slightly, and pushed them up again before looking back at his parents and smiling more.
“Making friends already are we James?” His mother asked with a soft smile. In James’ eyes, his mom was perfect. She had stunning brown skin and scars on her hands from working in the garden, though Dad said not to. Beautiful deep brown hair that was coil kinda curl and had beads and jewelry throughout it. “Of course he is. He is my son after all” His dad chimed in getting an eye-roll from Mom. His dad had the same complexion as his mom but had dark freckles on his skin. A similar suit to James just without suns. Though he had slightly longer than James’ curly hair. He loved his dad and couldn’t wait to be king like him. Maybe one day... he thought. “I am just happy there are other kids here besides Snivellus…”
“James Fleamont Potter. You can’t speak like that about a king.” His mother scolded.
“Yeah, you have to say King Snivellus.” His dad cracked a smile the sides of his eyes creasing sightly.
“Monty! You are teaching the boy bad habits.”
“Sorry Sorry” he laughed and looked at James and winked. “You have to call him King Severus.”
And on that note, the royal family of Sol walked inside the castle, escorted by guards to their rooms. The ceremony was a blur, with a lot of flashing camera lights, and a lot of sitting. Finally though after hours and hours came time for the party. The celebration of the new king. It was inside the ballroom. A dark room painted storm-grey, with tall Lavish windows that spanned 2 of the four curved walls of the room. The ceiling was painted in a biblical style of angels and clouds though it seemed to be chipping and slowly falling apart. Looking around the room it was beautiful in a dark Victorian kinda way. It made James miss Sol. It was dark and dull. In Sol even in the evening, it was bright. He glanced at his parents who were talking to some people he didn’t recognize. He looked around the room for a familiar face and watched as Severus- King Severus making his way over. Quickly James ducked into a crowd of people trying to make his way to the windows and the glass doors in the middle to go out of the balcony. His plan succeeded when he got outside he was hit with a wall of cool air. He walked up to the edge jumped up facing the drop and kicked his legs looking up at the cloudy sky. He wished he could see the stars tonight.
“What are you doing?” A voice from behind him spoke. Who was that? He was just alone. James turned around a little too fast and almost fell off the ledge of the balcony. Though his eyes attached to a boy that was now there. Short Black hair that was curly, freckles, grey eyes... The boy from earlier. The younger one. He met his grey eyes and smiled. “You scared me!” James laughed turning towards the boy with a grin showing off all his teeth. He had just lost one so he had a very kiddy smile. The boy didn’t smile back and looked to be studying his face.
“I am James! What’s your name?”
“Regulus.. Prince Regulus of the Grimwald dynasty” said the boy now named Regulus. What he said seemed rehearsed as if he memorized it in a a mirror.
“Reg-u-lus…Regulus! That’s a cool name. Isn’t that a star? My friend Lily was teaching me about stars. She loves stars. She could talk about those for hours! Well, she could talk about anyth-”
“You talk a lot..” The boy muttered and walked up to the ledge and leaned against it. And looked down at the trees below. “But yes my name is a star..”
“So what are you doing out here?” James looked down at Regulus with a smile.
“I could ask you the same thing.” The ravenette didn’t look up and continued to look down at the ground where the pine trees were. James saw that the boy was wearing a necklace by the chain he had on his neck and without thinking reached out and fixed it so the Clasp was against the back of the boy's neck. “Why did you fix my necklace?” Regulus looked up and the moon’s light caught his eyes just right to reveal specks of green.
“‘Cause it was messed up” James laughed “I am out here to get away from Sni- King Severus”
“You do realize we are in his castle it is kind of hard to get away in his castle.” The Smaller boy laughs slightly
He acts older but he’s younger than me... James thought. He always tended to compare himself to others. “So what are you doing out here?”
“Sirus left me to talk to a prince with our mother, so I came out here” The boy nodded. He spoke softly like a feather falling on water. As if you were talking with another person you wouldn’t notice him there.
As if he called the older boy, the older brother, Sirius, showed up grinning. “Reg! That is where you are! I have been looking for you!” The older one spoke louder and laughed after he spoke. “Hi, I am Sirius! You are Prince James, right? Me and... My mother was just trying to speak to you with your parents.” He paused before he said Mother, but James just shrugged it off. “Yep that is me I am James” James flashed his full grin. “Anyway, I have to steal Reggie from you. Mom wants us to talk to Big Nose.” Sirius rolled his eyes which made James laugh. “Okay well, I hope to see you guys later! Bye Regulus” James flashed his grin as we watched the two brothers in black walk inside.
James didn’t know it at this time. This would be the last time he saw the younger black brother for a very long time. He would always remember those grey eyes though. Just not who they belong to. The other black brother, Sirius. A few years later. When James is 13 will show up on the castle steps. Now a banished prince. Begging for a place to stay. James and his big heart will let Sirius stay inside and live with him. The two quickly became best friends. Sirius would wait until he had the chance to see Regulus again. Which would come a lot sooner than either of them had imagined. (13+6=19) 6 years seems like a long time. But not during a power-hungry war.
This war started 6 years after Sevrus was crowned king. With a lot on his mind and a voice in his ear, he snapped. Came crashing down on small villages and small kingdoms. Sol being a powerful kingdom went to war to help the kingdoms surrounding it. James would overhear his parents talking about the war and how badly it had gotten. Never a bad word slipped out of his Mother’s mouth about the Young king. During this war, a lot of kids were becoming orphans. So the castle slowly got a bit more crowded. Kids running around there was never a dull moment. Even with the heartbreak when James was rejected by his childhood friend. And swore to never love again. (oh how he was wrong..). He always had his best friend. His parents and his friends. Never forgetting thoes grey eyes.
