0. Prologue
The pain you feel when all your beloved ones aren’t that beloved anymore is weird. It just feels wrong. Like everything you ever learned is now extremely different. As if your head got drowned by an ocean, and all your thoughts turned numb and nothing makes sense anymore. As if you belong anywhere else. No one knows where, just not here.
James didn’t know he could feel like this. His parents were more than loving, he got nearly everything he could ask for, his life was almost perfect. Almost. The only thing he didn’t have was land. Somewhere he could put his feet on and stand on steady ground.
He really didn’t have steady ground under his feet. Especially not now. The boat he was currently on was swaying on the big waves the wind caused the ocean to make. It was nothing if not a stormy night.
One of the sails was already broken. It didn’t look good for them. When the storm wouldn’t fade in the next few minutes they needed to go an land. Even though James wanted land under his feet he didn’t want to go on land just jet.
The storm unfortunately didn’t get better. Rather the opposite. The waves got bigger and bigger until they were enormous. Lightnings started to dance on the sky, coming nearer to ship with every second. The thunders were extremely loud so that they nearly gave them a headache. Everyone of the crew members was running around trying to safe as much as possible. Though that was rather difficult, considering the damages the boat already had.
Many crew members had taken some of the gold and jewellery they had on the boat. But James didn’t seem to be interested in the damages of the boat or any of the treasures they had on the boat. He was rather keen on finding his parents. It took James way to long, for his liking, to find his parents in this mess. When he found his parents it wasn’t any less of a mess than finding them.
“James, James!!” James could hear Effies screaming. It sounded so helpless.
Euphemia Potter, the captain of this ship. The most powerful woman of this world. She always knew what to do. She always had a smile on her face. To hear her helpless is one of the most heartbreaking thing James ever heard.
“Mom, where are you?” He reached the front of the ship, when he finally saw his mother. She wasn’t alone. His Father was lying on her thigh.
“James” This time she was silent. Tears in her eyes. “James, something hit him.”
It was then when James saw the blood running over the forehead of his father.
Fleamont Potter, the man everyone looks up to. Even though he was also the captain of the ship he always treated every crew member with respect. He was an excellent fighter, never got hurt by anything and now. Now what he got hit by a fucking board. What world was that?
“Fleamont, Fleamont stay.” Effie sounded so tired. The whole day they have been dealing with the storm. Most of the crew gave up, but not Effie. She wouldn’t but she was clearly damn near to giving up.
James didn’t like this at all. His father was losing more and more blood. His breathing turned into a desperate gasp for air. It seemed like not only his head got hit but also his rips.
“James, listen to me.” A loud thunder nearly drowned the voce of Fleamont. But James heard him. He gave his full attention to his father. “James, never lose yourself.”
“No” this sounded to much like a last goodbye for James’s liking.
“James. You have so much love, spend it on everyone you can.” He snapped for air before he could continue with the talking. “Please choose a better life than this.” James knew deep down that he couldn’t do this. He loved his life. He had so many possibilities. He could go wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted. Still something was missing.
“Euphemia” Fleamont continued. “I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you. Never forget that. I love you now, I loved you every day before and I will love you in every day following. Form now to the end.”
They didn’t want to believe that he was dying, but he most certainly was.
From all around them you could hear screaming. They were all fighting against this storm for hours. It wasn’t a good sign that they didn’t make it out of it already. Everyone was tiered and most of them gave up. The ship was starting to fall into its pieces and all around them was wood swimming in the water. It wouldn’t go long, and they all would be dead.
“Don’t do this to me” Euphemia brought out under a sob.
Just a few seconds later a lightning hit the boat. A part of it began to burn, another part started to drown and the rest of it was already broken.
James couldn’t spend much thoughts on what happened, before everything turned black.
