Chocolate Frog

After the incident, I went back to my attempt at ignoring Harry. The food trolley came and went. I didn’t get anything. The other three did, making it difficult to ignore the boy in front of me.

I heard a bit of whispering and rustling of wrappers before I heard someone speak up.

“Um…Luna?” Harry said, rather unsurely.

Luna…Luna. Oh! That’s my name! I thought before I reacted. Lifting my eyes and lowering my magazine, my gaze met Harry’s.

“Yes?” I asked.

“Oh, I was just wondering if you wanted a Chocolate Frog? We still have a bit left.” Harry said.

I lowered my eyes to the direction of the mess of wrappers, Chocolate Frogs, and trading cards.

“Hmm, okay. But I’m throwing a fit if I get another Dumbledore card.” I said, a smile spreading across my face.

A sudden burst of laughter filled the compartment. Almost like my response caught the group off guard.

“Ha, yeah I don’t blame you.” Harry said, picking up a Chocolate Frog to hand to me.

I held my hand out. Harry dropped the chocolate on the palm of my hand. His fingers grazed my hand slightly as he pulled his hand back.

“I’ve gotten about a dozen of those Dumbledore cards…” Neville said.

“Try having twenty of them.” Harry said with a smirk.

I let out a chuckle. Harry looked at me with a smile. He was about to open his mouth, like he was going to say something.

At that moment, the compartment door opened once again. This time a red-headed boy and a girl with wavy brown hair walked in, already in their Gryffindor robes and a shining prefect badge.

From my peripheral I noticed a waving hand. I turned and saw that it was Harry trying to get my attention. Smiling once he got it, he whispered, “Ron and Hermione,” pointing at the pair that just walked in. I guess he noticed the look of confusion on my face when they walked in.

“I’m starving,” the red-headed boy said. Placing his small, brown owl next to the other. He grabbed a Chocolate Frog and threw himself to sit next to Harry. He looked up at me and looked a bit surprised, not expecting anyone else to be here other than his friends.

“Oh, hello. I’m Ron,” he said.

“Hi, nice to meet you. I’m Hermione,” she said, also barely noticing me being there.

“Nice to meet the both of you,” I said smiling at the two strangers, acting as if Harry didn’t whisper their names to me only seconds ago.

“There’s two fifth-year prefects for each house,” Hermione started. “A boy and a girl each, obviously.”

“And guess who’s the prefect for Slytherin.” the Ron said. With his eyes closed, as if the thought of who it was pained him in some way.

“Malfoy.” Harry said almost immediately.

“Yep.” Ron said rather bitterly, finishing off his Chocolate Frog.

Malfoy. I’ve heard of Malfoy before, not a nice kid at all from what I could read. I thought to myself.

“And that complete cow Pansy Parkinson…how she ended up prefect, I’ll never know. She’s thicker than a concussed troll…” Hermione ranted.

“And for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw?” Harry asked. Noticing him looking in my direction when he said the word Ravenclaw.

“Hufflepuff is Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbot,” said Ron.

“And Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil for Ravenclaw,” said Hermione.

Padma Patil. I remember her mentioning Harry and…his friend. Wait, didn’t she…

“You went to the Yule Ball with Padma Patil,” I told Ron, who was caught a bit off guard.

Right after I said that, I felt everyone’s eyes on me. Being the “new” girl in any situation is never fun. I barely know these people-other than Ginny-so mingling with them still feels a bit odd.

“I remember her saying she didn’t enjoy it so much. She said you didn’t want to dance. I don’t really dance, so I didn't see what the big deal was…” I said to Ron.

I heard a laugh come from Harry’s direction, then Hermione’s. Before I knew it the whole compartment was laughing, myself included. Everyone except Ron, who looked a bit horrified at the fact that Padma spoke about the situation.

“Wait until I tell Fred and George!” Ginny let out still laughing.

“You better not,” Ron told Ginny. “I wasn’t even that bad…” Ron sulked, sinking into his chair.

“Oh, yes you were!” Hermione accused. “You were such a prick to me that night too!"

“I was only like that because he…” Ron stopped himself before saying something he might regret. “Oh, nevermind...”

Harry’s eyes shifted between his two friends and ultimately landed back to me.

I just started opening my Chocolate Frog when I felt his eyes on me. It’s okay. Stay calm. Just focus on opening the wrapper. I couldn’t quite get the wrapper to open. Seeing my struggle, I saw a hand extend out and take the Chocolate Frog out of my hands.

“Here, let me.” Harry said as he opened the wrapper for me.

Caught completely off guard by this interaction, all I could do was gape at him until my mouth was able to form words.

“Thanks,” I said smiling as I reached out and took the Chocolate back from his hand.

Harry smirked, “No problem.”

I held his gaze before it got interrupted once more by Ron talking about something prefect related.
