Chapter 19; October 4th, 1974

The second moon that year was better, as they all expected it to be. It was still scary, after what happened in September, but they all knew it'd be better.

They spent the night running through the woods, Moony and Padfoot chasing each other and playing most of the night, Prongs and Wormtail following close behind. Everything felt normal again.

Remus was still in the hospital wing, he said he’d be there at least until after lessons, Madame Pomfrey wouldn’t let Sirius miss lessons to stay with him.

They all made sure to pay attention during lessons, hoping that the three of them all writing notes will be enough for Moony to understand what they did, and of course they had to go over new topics in all of their classes, making their workload even heavier.

“I got you all of the homework from today too. It's a lot, and also we all took notes to try and help but if I'm being honest I don't understand shit.” Sirius mumbled, Sitting next to Remus on the hospital bed, playing with his hair.

“It’s alright. I’ll manage. I always do.” He smiled.

“Are you allowed to leave yet? I don’t want to go to dinner alone.”

Remus shrugged, settling into Sirius a little more.

“Poppy!” He yelled. “Can I go yet?”

Madame Pomfrey walked over to the bed they were on, staring at them.

“I don’t know if I trust you two.” She smiled, checking Remus’s temperature.

“I'm very trustworthy, if you must know.” Sirius laughed, crossing his arms to seem more dramatic.

She rolled her eyes. “Mr Black, head down to dinner. Mr Lupin will join you there shortly.”

Sirius sat up straighter and looked at Remus.

“Go on.” Remus smiled, fixing his blankets.

Sirius kissed him quickly before getting up.

“Don’t take too long.” He mumbled. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” Remus laughed again, handing Sirius his book. “Carry it for me? I dont have my bag.”

Sirius nodded and put the book in his bag before walking out.

Remus was ten minutes late to dinner. He had changed into his school clothes and fixed his hair, which was only messy because Sirius can’t leave it alone.

Sirius has started eating a bit more normally, not enough for Remus’s liking, but enough to stay at a somewhat healthy weight. He charmed his robes to make them look like they fit right, but they’re still a bit big, but not big enough to go down a size.

“Hey Moony.” James smiled, nodding at Remus.

“Hi.” He smiled, taking his normal spot and filling up his plate. “Thanks for the notes by the way, you lot don’t have to do all that.”

“It’s not too much, besides, it makes you less stressed out, and you have enough to worry about.” James shrugged. Peter nodded in agreement.

“Y’all spoil me too much.” Remus said dramatically, putting his hands on his chest.

The common room was loud, more people have started getting comfortable being out of their dorms, which means that they have to get back faster than they normally would to make sure they get their spot.

Most people knew about Sirius and Remus now, after the party people started rumors, almost the whole school knew by the next day. It was honestly easier being open about it than trying to hide it unless their in the dorm.

Remus sat down in one of the armchairs, Sirius sat on the arm of the same chair.

“Clingy today huh?” Remus smiled, pulling him off of the arm so he was half sitting on the chair and half sitting on Remus.

“Shut up.” He mumbled, burying his face into his shoulder.

“You’re cute when you get all flustered like that.”

“I hate you.”

“Really? That’s not what you said at the party.”

“Piss off.”

“You’re sitting on me love, I can’t.”

Peter cleared his throat. “I don’t have a problem with you being together, but god damn you two are worse than James and Lily.”

Remus put his arm around Sirius’ waist, watching as Lily walked upstairs.

“Am I missing something? It feels like I'm missing something.” Peter asked, looking around.

“We broke up Pete.” James answered, he seemed upset about it now, but not nearly as upset as people expected him to be. He’s been in love with her since he was eleven, and they barely lasted a month, and he seems so okay.

“Oh. I'm sorry. I didn’t notice. Are you okay James?” Peter leaned back against the couch more.

“Yeah. I'm alright.” He shrugged.

Remus seemed tense. James and Lily were a touchy subject for everyone right now, but Remus doesn’t know whose side he’s on. From what he told Sirius, James was a dick for snogging someone else the day after the breakup, but Lily was keeping him from finding out who he is and pushing him into this perfect version of him that she wanted him to be, he thinks that Lily is more in the wrong, but he doesn't want to lose her.

“It’ll work out moons. Just give it a bit to settle in, yeah?” Sirius whispered, kissing his cheek.

“I know. But I'm bad at waiting.” He smiled, kissing him again.

It didn’t take long for them to be full on snogging, everyone else was distracted, and James and Lily used to do the same thing, people stop caring after a while. James and Peter were used to it by now, and everyone else was too scared to stare for too long.

“Alright, enough of that!” Frank Longbottom yelled from across the room. “Black why are your brother's friends outside of our common room?”

“Who? Pandora?” Sirius asked, letting go of Remus’ tie, his other hand still in his hair.

“No. The other two. His roommates I think.”

“Oh. Evan and Barty? I don’t know, ask them what they want.” Sirius shrugged, turning back to Remus.

“They said they wanted to talk to you or James.” Frank turned and walked upstairs.

“Fuck.” He mumbled as he got up.

Barty was holding a tissue to his nose and Evan had a black eye.

“Thank fuck it’s you. Potter would’ve overreacted.” Barty smiled, his voice muffled and stuffy.

“What happened? And why’d you come here of all places?” Sirius asked, leaning against the statue next to them.

“Do you think we’d be able to stay in your room for the night? Reg too. I don’t want to explain it all right now because I can't breathe and talk at the same time.” Barty answered, talking fast so he doesn’t have to breathe in between words.

“Yeah..? I guess that's okay? Why here though? And where is Reggie?” Sirius looked them up and down.

“Didn’t know where else to go. Can't go to the nurse without getting in trouble, and that one friend of yours is good at healing spells yeah? Regulus is with Pandora right now, he should be here soon though, she probably won’t leave him alone until everything gets sorted out. But we can’t stay in the Slytherin dorms tonight. Staying here is easier.” Evan shrugged, poking at the area around his eye that has now swelled up.

“Alright. Sure yeah. Remus can probably fix some of it, Barty if your nose is broken we might have to get a potion for that, I don’t know how easily Remus can fix broken bones.” Sirius said, opening the portrait and letting them in.

“Thanks, Sirius. We can pay you or something if you want.” Evan mumbled, hiding his face as he walked in.

“It’s fine Rosier. Don’t worry about it.” Sirius mumbled, sitting back down. “They're staying with us, and Moony, you know basic healing spells right?”

“Yeah? Why? What's going on?” Remus asked, sitting up a bit straighter. Sirius shrugged and looked behind him.

“Ev come here, you first. Barty go up to my room, come back when it stops bleeding or if you need something, yeah? There should be sweets around in there if you get dizzy.”

Barty nodded, walking upstairs, the tissue he was holding was almost completely red and wouldn't hold much for much longer. Remus fixed Evan’s eye and made sure he was alright everywhere else.

“Okay what happened though? I don’t think we ever got an answer to that.” James asked once everything had calmed down a bit. Other people in the common room kept staring, Remus said they were trying to figure out why there's Slytherins in the Gryffindor common room, he also said they're bad at whispering.

“Avery Wilkes and Mulciber. They insulted Pandora, Reg insulted them back, they shot first, throwing curses and shit at him, none of them hit because they all have shit aim, but they wouldn’t stop, so me and Barty stepped in, Reg disarmed them. None of us wanted to go back in there, they took off all of our locks because nobody can get along and apparently no locks makes sense to fix that. Anyways, we don’t wanna go back, they’ll break into our room. We couldn’t go anywhere else without turning ourselves in.” Evan explained, picking at his hands.

“Completely fair, they deserved it anyways. How far did you go?” Sirius smiled. Remus hit his thigh slightly.

“Avery was passed out when Barty pulled me off of him. Mulciber and Wilkes didn’t look great, they were both begging Barty to stop.”

Barty came back downstairs, still holding tissues to his nose. “So it’s broken, I know that much. It’ll stop bleeding but then I'll breathe and it’ll start again.” He mumbled.

Remus walked over to him, putting the tip of his wand to his nose. He’s been working on wordless magic, he started with healing spells since they seemed important enough to be able to do quietly. “Wait for it to stop bleeding and you should be fine.” He pulled a chocolate bar out of his pocket. “You’re dizzy. It’ll help.”

“I'm not-”

“I can see it in your eyes crouch, just eat the fucking chocolate.” He sat back down next to Sirius

“Thanks.” Barty nodded.

“Wait, they're staying in our room?” Peter asked

“Is that an issue?” Barty sniffed.

“No, no. It’s just that, where would you guys sleep? We don’t really have much space.”

“They can take my bed. I’ll stay with Moony. We can set something else up if there isn't enough room.” Sirius shrugged.

“I’ll share with someone if I have to.” James added, putting his homework away.

Regulus and Pandora showed up a few min later. Sitting down next to Evan and Barty. Evan took a pen out of his pocket and started drawing on Pandora's arm.

“Are you two okay?” She asked quietly, the loopy-ness usually in her voice not as noticeable.

“We’re fine. Lupin fixed it all already.” Evan reassured her. Barty started braiding her hair.

“Where's Dorcas? Did she not come with you?” She asked.

“She was already here. Her girlfriend is a Gryffindor.” Barty answered softly.

She nodded and looked down at her lap. “Sorry.”

“Pandora I already told you. It’s not your fault. Stop apologizing.” Regulus rolled his eyes, keeping the act he puts up around people.

“I gotta go back. It’s almost curfew. I don’t wanna take up space.” She mumbled

“Alright. Be careful, yeah? You can come back if you need us for anything.” Evan told her, pulling her bangs out of the braids. She nodded and left.

“She's a little fucky about the whole thing. Thinks it's her fault.” Regulus said, biting his nails.

“Reggie.” Sirius mumbled.

“Hm?”

“You’re biting again. And relax your shoulders, you’re fine.”

“Sorry.”

They all went upstairs to figure out how they were all gonna sleep in the dorm. Sirius and Remus set up Sirius’ bed for them while they argued over who was sharing with who. Evan and Barty didn’t want to share with James, and Regulus didn’t want all three of them in one bed. They all decided Regulus would share with James, with the terms that there was a line of pillows in between them.

Peter was already asleep, everyone else could barely stay awake. Barty grabbed Evans arm and pulled him towards Sirius’s bed.

“If you two shag in my brother's bed I'll kill you both.” Regulus yelled after them.

“I’m suicidal.” Evan called back. A silencing charm got put up over the bed and the curtains were charmed closed.

“Are they-?”

“No. Both to pussy to admit anything, they shag sometimes though.” Regulus shrugged, sitting down on the side of James’s bed he’s claimed for himself.

“Took them long enough. They’ve had hard ons for each other since we were like nine. Good for Evan though, Barty’s the second best fuck ive ever had.” Sirius smiled, putting his hair up with his wand.

“I’m guessing Lupin's the best then? Especially before a full moon, I've heard they get better the closer the moon is.”

“You know about that?” Remus asked, moving away from him slightly. Remus has always kept as much distance from Regulus as possible. Sirius hasn’t figured out why yet.

“Yeah. Put the pieces together on the first day of potions. My rings were on the table next to you. I didn’t realize until after the class, but the silver was fucking with you yeah?”

“Yeah. You have necklaces too don’t you?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“Do you think you could take all of it off for the night? Keep it in the bathroom or something?”

“Yeah. I didn’t really think about that, it’s more sensitive right now isn't it? Because of how close-“

“Yeah, just please? Can you take it off?”

Regulus nodded and took his necklace and rings off, charming them to be less reactive and putting it on the bathroom counter.

“Thanks.” Remus mumbled, still shaky. “That's…all of it?”

“Barty and Evans piercing are all full silver I think too, I can’t get them without explaining it though, I can make something up if you really need me too.”

Regulus was being nice to the people he would usually hate. Sirius thought it was weird but shoved it off.

“It's alright. It’s not enough for it to burn, I'm just itchy.” He turned over and closed the curtains around them.

“You alright?” Sirius asked him.

“Yeah. I need to go to sleep though, it’ll help.”

“Alright. Love you.”

“Love you more.”
