The beggining
Chaos. That was the only word Cassie could use to describe the scene in the Wizengamot as she took her seat as the Regent Potter. As discussions dragged on about issues she had little interest in, her mind wandered back to events from two years ago.
It was October 31, 1991. Cassie was cradling her two-month-old daughter, Lyra Melania Potter-Black. Sirius had wanted a more common name, but Cassie loved the Black family tradition of naming children after stars, hence she chose the constellation Lyra.
Their peaceful evening was shattered when Sirius burst into the room, panic etched across his disheveled face. "The Potters have been attacked! The Fidelius Charm is broken!"
Cassie immediately placed her daughter back in her cot and instructed their house-elf, Mipsy, to watch over her. Without a moment's hesitation, she and Sirius Apparated to Godric's Hollow. The sight that greeted them was one of utter devastation—the roof of the Potter's home had been blown off.
Steeling herself with the stoic mask she had perfected as a Slytherin, Cassie moved forward, pushing down the dread that gnawed at her stomach. She and Sirius entered the house cautiously.
The scene inside was heart-wrenching. "JAMES!" Sirius shouted, rushing to the lifeless form of his brother-in-law and brother in all but blood. James lay there, eyes wide in shock, unmoving.
Cassie felt her composure cracking but forced herself to remain focused. She hurried upstairs to the nursery. There, she found her best friend Lily, lifeless on the floor. The sight was almost too much to bear. But then, from the cot, she heard a cry—Harry. He was alive.
Tears of relief streamed down her face as she scooped Harry into her arms. She descended the stairs, holding him close. Sirius, who had been about to bolt upstairs, stopped in his tracks when he saw them. Tears of joy and sorrow mingled as he embraced his wife and nephew.
Their moment of solace was interrupted by Hagrid, who loomed at the doorway. "The Potters are dead, Hagrid. Harry survived," Sirius managed, his voice choked with emotion.
"Give 'im ter me, Sirius. I have to take 'arry to the Dursleys," Hagrid insisted.
"ARE YOU MAD? Petunia hates Lily! You should have heard the things she said when Lily announced her pregnancy!" Cassie shouted, her voice waking Harry, who started to cry again.
Sirius quickly cast a mild sleep spell on Harry, calming him instantly. Without another word, he and Cassie turned and left, leaving a stunned Hagrid standing in the ruins of Godric's Hollow.
Back in the present, Cassie blinked away the memories, refocusing on the chaotic scene of the Wizengamot. It was a stark reminder of how far they had come and the battles that still lay ahead. The discussions around her seemed trivial compared to the horrors she had witnessed and the losses they had endured. Yet, she knew that every moment she spent here was crucial for securing a better future for Harry, Lyra, and all those she held dear.
She glanced around the chamber, her eyes narrowing as she observed the various members bickering over mundane issues. She knew that her position here was not just a seat of power, but a seat of responsibility. As Regent Potter, she had to navigate the political landscape with the same determination and cunning that had seen her through that dark night at Godric's Hollow.
Cassie sighed, pushing back her thoughts, and focused on the task at hand. The memory of James and Lily's lifeless forms fueled her resolve. She would not let their deaths be in vain. She would fight for their legacy, for Harry's future, and for the world they had believed in.
With a determined set to her jaw, Cassie leaned forward, ready to engage in the next round of debates. The past might have been filled with sorrow and loss, but the future was hers to shape, and she would do so with the fierce love and unyielding strength that had carried her through the darkest of times.
