Chapter 2
-Sirius-
“We need to talk Remus.” I say as I pull Remus aside. I take him across the field to the willow tree in front of our university.
“What’s the matter?” Remus asks, looking worried. I look away. ‘Am I really gonna do this now,’ I think to myself, ‘What if James is wrong and he doesn't fancy me?’
“Remus, I really need to tell you something important.” I say, “I don't want to make things weird between us or anything, but I’ve been thinking about something for a very long time and I need to tell you.”
“What's the matter?” Remus asks quickly.
“Remus… I think I might fancy you.”
“Sirius…”
Just then he kissed me, deeply and passionately. I pulled back, my face blushing like mad. “I fancy you too,” he said, his eyes glowing like the moon.
“Moony…” I mumbled under my breath.
“What?” he asked, “Who’s Moony?”
“You, your eyes glow like the moon. Plus, they’re just as beautiful.” He looked at me with awe in his eyes the second I said that. We hung around for a while until the sun started to set.
“Oh shit.” I said, “I missed practice, Marlene is gonna be furious.”
“It's ok,” Remus said, as he gave me a peck on the cheek, “At least you got to hang out with me, your brand new boyfriend.”
I chuckled as we got up, and walked to the dorms watching the sun go down.
“We should go stargazing tomorrow night if it's not cloudy,” I say to him.
“That's a great idea,” he says while smiling, as we got to the dorm, got ready for bed, and fell asleep.
-James-
The next morning I wake up to voices talking. I sit up while grabbing my glasses, put them on and look around the room. Peter is still asleep, but Remus and Sirius are awake, talking and laughing together, while drinking some tea. Sirius glances over towards my bed and sees me awake.
“James!” he exclaims, “You’ll never believe what happened last night, Moon- I mean Remus and I got together!”
“Congrats!” I say, “Is that why you missed practice last night?”
“Yeah, sorry about that.” Sirius says sheepishly.
“No problem, I’m glad you two got together.” I say
“OI PETE!” I yell, startling Peter awake, “You owe me 10 pounds!”
“Dagnabbit,” Peter says in a tired voice.
“You two bet on us?” Remus asks.
“Uh- gotta go get ready to audition!” I yell, rushing into the washroom.
I shower quickly and throw on some clothes and finish doing all of the basics. Then I walk out of the washroom and head down to breakfast with Peter, leaving Remus and Sirius to “Do their thing”. As we walk down to breakfast, I see posters pinned up all around the university saying, “Audition today for the tale of Achilles and Patroclus! Scripts are below, take if you need!” I pick up a script and skim through it. Not bad. Once we get to the canteen, I grab some food and sit down with Peter, only to be greeted by an announcement on the loudspeaker that says, “Anyone willing to try out for the play, please come down to the theatre immediately.”
“Gotta go Pete,” I say, as I shove some waffles into my mouth, “I have to go do Sirius’ stupid dare!” When I run to the theatre I see a long line out the door, great, just what I need today, to stand in a long line of people with nothing to do. Thankfully, the line is moving along pretty fast, there must be some bad people trying out. When it's finally my turn, Professor Slughorn asks me to turn to page 394 in my script and read it aloud.
“I would not know him?” I say in my best acting voice I can,” I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.” When I finish I hear clapping.
“Bravo!” Slughorn says, “Well done Mr. Potter! Remember that the cast list comes out on Friday, you might just get yourself a role in the play.”
When I got back to the dorm the door was locked, I bang on the door and yell, “OI, LET ME IN!”
“JUST A SEC,” came Remus’ voice from the room. There was some scrambling around in there and about a minute later, Sirius opened the door and saw the frown on my face.
“What's the matter mate?” he asked, looking concerned.
“Stupid Slughorn said that I might get a part in the play.”
“Oh, well that's good innit?”
“No! I don't want a part in the stupid play, I have other things to worry about, like rugby.”
“Oh… well at least if you get a part you can get all the fame.” Sirius said, while doing jazz hands in the air. I frowned and walked past him and sat on my bed. I heard Remus whisper something to Sirius that sounded like ‘C'mon let's go to the courtyard’ as they walked out of the room together.
-Regulus-
“Ooh he was really good,” Dorcas whispers to me as James leaves the stage.
“Eh, I guess,” I reply.
“Ooh I wonder if he’ll get a lead role in the play!” Pandora says, smiling.
“Well you children will find out tomorrow, because that's when the cast list comes out!” Slughorn says, joining our conversation.
“Already?” Evan asks, “But we just hosted auditions today!”
“Yes I know,” Slughorn replies, “but we need to get this play up and running as soon as possible, it's one of the biggest plays we've done in years!”
The bell rings for first period as we all grab our stuff and head to our classes. As I walk out into the hallway, the smell of sweaty kids hits me like a runaway train. It smelled as if someone had used rotting onions as deodorant.
“C’mon we have Mcgonagall,” Evan says, as he, Barty, and I walk to her class.
“Why don't we just skip classes for the day,” Barty said, “I mean, it's not as if we have anything important going on.”
“Sure, I’ll skip,” Evan replied with a grin, “what about you Reg?”
“Eh- I guess, I don't really wanna go to class, and anyways I’m exhausted.” I replied, “I think I'll just go to the dorm for now.”
“Party pooper,” Barty said with a pout. As he and Evan walked off, laughing.
I walk back to the dorm slowly, I am tired, it's just that I hate sleep, ‘Who could fall asleep in the middle of the day anyways?’ I thought to myself as I walked up the spiral staircase. As I walk up the stairs I see people laughing and sitting around. Sirius and his dumb friends. Now, I don't hate all of his friends, I do like Remus, he's pretty chill. As for the rest of them… that’s a different story.
“Regulus,” Sirius says to me as soon as he sees me, “how're you? I know we haven't talked in a while.”
“Bugger off you prat,” I say to him, as I step over his feet and keep walking up the stairs.
“What's up with him?” I hear James ask.
“Nothing- he just doesn't like me that much,” Sirius replies, as he sighs and keeps doing whatever it was he was doing.
As I continue to walk up the stairs, I start to sob. I miss my older brother, but I just don't know how to tell him. See- I’m not very good at expressing my feelings or emotions. Just as I start to break down into tears, I hear someone walking up the stairs.
-Remus-
Just as Regulus walks away, I start to hear sobbing.
“I'll be right back,” I say to the group as I walk up the stairs towards the sobbing.
“Regulus?” I ask, “Is that you? Are you alright?”
“Go away, please,” the voice yearns. “It is Regulus,’ I think, ‘but what's wrong?’ I walk towards the voice slowly only to see Regulus, sobbing, while sitting on one of the windowsills.
“Regulus… what’s wrong?” I ask.
“None of your business Lupin,” he responds.
“No really,” I say as I go to sit next to him, “what happened? Did someone hurt you?”
“I SAID NOTHING IS WRONG YOU GIT! NOW PISS OFF!” he yells, as he runs up the stairs to his dorm.
Eventually, it got late, and Sirius, James, Peter, and I went back to the dorm, and fell asleep.
