A piece from the past

Chief Caretaker Alexandru sat in his office within the heart of the Reserve, surrounded by stacks of parchment and the soft glow of magical lanterns. He diligently filed away documents detailing breeding programs and inventories, his mind focused on the tasks at hand. A gentle hoot interrupted the silence, drawing Alexandru's attention to the window where an owl perched, a rolled parchment tied to its leg. With a flick of his wand, Alexandru invited the owl inside, taking the parchment with a sense of anticipation. As he unrolled the parchment, his eyes widened at the words inscribed upon it. The message bore the seal of a renowned wandmaker, and its contents revealed a startling revelation – the broken wand piece that Harry had discovered months earlier held a connection to a legendary figure in Romanian magical history. A surge of excitement coursed through Alexandru as he realized the significance of this discovery. The broken wand piece was not merely a curiosity; it was a link to a past steeped in heroism and intrigue, a past that held the key to understanding the present. With a sense of urgency, Alexandru knew he had to share this revelation with Harry. He was the one who had stumbled upon the broken wand piece, and he deserved to know the truth of its origins. Leaving his office behind, Alexandru made his way through the winding corridors of the Reserve, his footsteps echoing against the stone walls. He found Harry and Charlie in their quarters, deep in conversation, and wasted no time in relaying the news.

"Harry, I got an owl a few minutes ago," Alexandru began, his voice tinged with excitement. "And yes, Charlie you can hear it as well." Said Alex as he saw the redhead getting up to go out. "I've received word from a wandmaker regarding the broken wand piece you found. It belonged to Aurelian Dragomir." Harry and Charlie exchanged puzzled glances as Chief Caretaker mentioned the name." They had never heard of this figure, and curiosity stirred within them as they awaited Alexandru's explanation.

"Who is Aurelian Dragomir?" Charlie asked, his voice tinged with intrigue. Alexandru settled into a chair opposite them, his expression grave yet filled with a sense of reverence.

"Aurelian Dragomir was one of the most revered wizards in Romanian magical history," he began, his tone carrying the weight of centuries-old tales. "He lived during a time of great unrest, when dark forces threatened to plunge our world into chaos." As Alexandru spoke, Harry and Charlie listened intently, captivated by the story unfolding before them. "Aurelian Dragomir was not only a skilled wizard but also a courageous leader," Alexandru continued. "When the Romanian Ministry of Magic faced its greatest challenge, an uprising that threatened to tear our country apart, Aurelian Dragomir was the one who stood against the darkness." Harry's eyes widened with understanding as he realized the magnitude of Aurelian Dragomir's deeds.

"So, he was a hero," he murmured, a sense of awe creeping into his voice. Alexandru nodded solemnly. "Indeed, he was. Aurelian Dragomir's bravery and skill were unmatched, and his actions helped to bring peace and stability to our land." Charlie leaned forward, his curiosity piqued. "But what does Aurelian Dragomir have to do with the broken wand piece?" Alexandru's expression grew somber as he considered the question.

"That, my friends, is the mystery we must unravel," he replied. "The fact that the broken wand piece once belonged to Aurelian Dragomir suggests that it may hold secrets of great importance – secrets that could shed light on the challenges we face today." Charlie furrowed his brow, his mind grappling with the implications of Chief Caretaker Alexandru's revelation.

"Wait a minute," he interjected, his voice tinged with skepticism. "If Aurelian Dragomir lived around 800 years ago, how is it possible for a wand, made primarily of wood, to remain perfectly preserved all this time?" Harry nodded in agreement, his own confusion mirrored in his expression. "It doesn't make sense," he added. "Wood tends to deteriorate over time, especially when exposed to the elements." Alexandru leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled in thought.

"You raise a valid point," he conceded, his tone thoughtful. "The preservation of the wand is indeed perplexing, given its age and composition." As silence settled over the room, Harry, Charlie, and Alexandru exchanged questioning glances, their minds whirling with possibilities. A flicker of realization crossed Harry's face as he recalled the moment he had stumbled upon the broken wand piece.

"Hold for a moment," he exclaimed, his voice tinged with excitement. "I remember when I found the piece. It was reflecting the moonlight." Harry's revelation drew the attention of Charlie and Alexandru, both of whom turned their gaze towards him, eager for further explanation.

"The broken wand piece wasn't made of wood. It looked more like crystal or metal, something that could reflect light." Charlie's considered Harry's words.

"That would explain why it's remained perfectly preserved after all these centuries," he remarked, a sense of wonder creeping into his voice. Alexandru nodded in agreement, his own excitement growing with each passing moment. "It's becoming clear that there's more to this broken wand piece than meets the eye," he added, his tone tinged with anticipation. "Perhaps it holds clues to Aurelian Dragomir's mastery of ancient magic." As the implications of Harry's revelation sank in, the trio exchanged meaningful glances, their minds whirling with possibilities.

"If the broken wand piece is indeed made of crystal or metal, it could contain enchantments or magical properties of its own," Harry speculated, his imagination running wild with the possibilities. Charlie's eyes sparkled with excitement as he considered the implications.

"Maybe that's why it's been preserved for so long," he suggested. "It could be imbued with protective magic, ensuring that it remains intact over the centuries." A perplexed expression crossing Harry's features as he considered the implications of their discovery.

"But how did the poachers get their hands on such a relic?" he mused aloud, his voice tinged with uncertainty. Charlie's lips curved into a playful smile as he leaned back in his chair, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Ah, my dear Harry, that's the million Galleon question, isn't it?" he quipped, a hint of amusement coloring his tone. Harry chuckled, appreciating Charlie's attempt to lighten the mood. "True," he conceded, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "But seriously, it seems highly unlikely that poachers would stumble upon something like this by chance." Alexandru nodded in agreement, his expression thoughtful.

"Indeed," he replied, his tone serious once more. "It's possible that the poachers had help, someone with knowledge of magical artifacts and their significance." As the three continued to ponder the possibilities, the hour grew late, and exhaustion began to weigh heavily upon them. With a weary sigh, Alex rose from his chair, stretching his arms above his head.

"I think it's time we called it a night," he announced, his voice tinged with fatigue. "We can pick up our investigation in the morning with fresh minds." Harry and Charlie nodded in agreement, grateful for the reprieve. As they bid Alex goodnight and retired to their quarters, their thoughts lingered on the mysteries that lay ahead.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries filled the air as Harry made his way to the canteen, his stomach grumbling in anticipation of breakfast. He joined the bustling crowd of Reserve workers, exchanging greetings and smiles as he navigated towards the food counter. As he filled his plate with scrambled eggs and toast, Harry spotted Katrin and Nita waving enthusiastically from a nearby table. With a smile, he made his way over to join them, settling into a chair with a grateful sigh.

"Morning, Harry!" Katrin chirped, her eyes bright with excitement. "We've been dying to ask you about the wedding plans. Any updates?" Harry's cheeks flushed pink at the mention of the wedding, his gaze flickering nervously between Katrin and Nita.

"Uh, well," he stammered, his voice tinged with shyness. "Charlie and I have only been together for four months, so we thought we'd wait at least a year before we start planning anything." Katrin and Nita exchanged disappointed glances, but quickly masked their expressions with supportive smiles.

"Oh, I see," Nita replied, her tone gentle. "That makes sense. It's important to take your time and make sure everything's just right." Harry nodded gratefully, relieved by their understanding.

"Thanks, guys," he said, his smile returning. "I appreciate your support." Just then, Charlie's voice rang out from across the room, drawing Harry's attention.

"Hey, what are you two sniffing around my boyfriend for?" he called out playfully, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Katrin and Nita burst into laughter, their cheeks flushing with embarrassment as they waved off Charlie's teasing.

"Oh, nothing, nothing!" Nita replied, her voice laced with amusement. "Just making sure he's treating you right, Charlie." Charlie grinned, his gaze softening as he locked eyes with Harry.

"Trust me, he treats me better than I deserve," he replied, his voice filled with affection. Harry chuckled nervously, his cheeks flushing at Charlie's unexpected revelations.

"Charlie, you didn't have to—" But Charlie waved off Harry's protest with a dismissive gesture.

"Nonsense, love," he interjected, his voice warm with affection. "I want everyone to know just how lucky I am to have you." Turning to Katrin and Nita, Charlie's expression softened as he began to paint a picture of their life together. "You see, Harry negotiates, but I'll tell you what he does to make my life so much better," he began, a fond smile gracing his lips. "He cleans our cottage from top to bottom, without me even having to ask," Charlie continued, his admiration evident in his tone. "And every single day, without fail, he prepares our uniforms, making sure they're pressed and ready to go." A soft chuckle escaped Harry's lips as he listened to Charlie's litany of praises. He hadn't realized just how much their daily routines meant to Charlie, and hearing his appreciation filled him with warmth. "But that's not all," Charlie added, a mischievous glint dancing in his eyes. "He even notices if there's a little bit of dirt on my face and makes sure to wipe it off. Can you believe it?" Katrin and Nita exchanged amused glances, their lips twitching with suppressed laughter.

"Sounds like you've got yourself quite the caretaker," Nita remarked, her tone teasing. Charlie nodded emphatically.

"Oh, I do," he replied, his voice filled with pride. "And let me tell you, he's the best little spoon a guy could ask for. He loves to be cuddled, and I'm more than happy to oblige." A chorus of laughter filled the air as Harry's cheeks flushed crimson, his embarrassment evident for all to see. Charlie's eyes sparkled with fondness as he recounted their visit to the Burrow, the warmth of family and the aroma of home-cooked meals flooding his memory.

"You should have seen it," Charlie began, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "When we went for a visit to the Burrow, Mum had a surprise for us. She asked Harry to cook for the whole family." Katrin and Nita's eyes widened with interest as they leaned in, eager to hear more.

"And let me tell you," Charlie continued, his voice filled with admiration, "Harry's cooking skills left my mum stunned. She couldn't believe her eyes – or her taste buds, for that matter." Harry's cheeks flushed with embarrassment at the praise, but Charlie wasn't finished yet. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.

"Between you and me," Charlie confided, "Harry's cooking is a bit better than my mum's." Gasps of mock scandal erupted from Katrin and Nita as they exchanged amused glances.

"No way!" Nita exclaimed, her voice filled with playful disbelief. Charlie chuckled, nodding emphatically.

"It's true," he insisted, his tone laced with pride. "But don't tell her – she'd never let me live it down." Harry's embarrassment grew with each passing moment, his cheeks now resembling ripe tomatoes. But before he could protest, Charlie wrapped an arm around his shoulders, pulling him close with a tender smile.

"Don't be modest, love," Charlie murmured, pressing a soft kiss to Harry's cheek. "You're a culinary genius, and I'm lucky to have you." Harry's embarrassment melted away under Charlie's affectionate gaze, a warmth filled his heart. Despite his initial discomfort, he couldn't help but feel grateful for Charlie's unwavering love and support.

The door to the office creaked open, and Bogdan stepped inside, his expression a mix of exhaustion and excitement.

"Chief," he greeted, his voice echoing in the quiet room. Alexandru looked up from his desk, a welcoming smile gracing his features.

"Bogdan, what brings you here?" he inquired, gesturing for him to take a seat. Bogdan wasted no time in getting to the point.

"Ghita and I have returned from our expedition in the mountains," he began, his voice tinged with excitement. "We found the lost hatchlings of a Hebridean Black, just as we suspected." Alexandru's eyes lit up with delight at the news.

"That's wonderful, Bogdan," he exclaimed, his voice filled with genuine joy. "You and Ghita have done excellent work." But before Alexandru could say more, Bogdan's gaze fell upon the broken wand piece resting on his desk, his eyes widening with shock. "What is that?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Alexandru followed Bogdan's gaze, his expression growing serious.

"That, Bogdan, is a piece of a wand," he replied, his tone grave. "But not just any wand. It once belonged to a legendary wizard, Aurelian Dragomir." Bogdan's eyes widened in disbelief as Alexandru explained the significance of their discovery.

"Aurelian Dragomir?" he repeated, his voice tinged with awe. "But how is that possible? His wand should have been lost to history." Alexandru nodded solemnly, his gaze fixed on the broken wand piece.

"That's what makes this discovery so remarkable," he replied. "But there's still much we don't know. We're still piecing together the puzzle." As the weight of their discovery settled upon them, Bogdan and Alexandru shared a meaningful glance, their minds whirling with questions and possibilities.
